Effect of IPMSM d-q Axis Parameters According to Magnetic Saturation and Armature Reaction

  • FEA was used to analyze inductance and torque of IPMSM. Torque and inductance are analyzed on the dq-axis. It was shown that Ld and Lq have harmonic components, and magnitude as well as phase of the harmonics varies according to the current values. This paper shows the relationship between these inductance harmonics and the 6th harmonic component of torque.

  • The Permanent Magnet (PM) machine used at speed control using field-weakening control method. But the field-weakening current, which reduces the field flux for high speeds, causes significant copper and core losses. Therefore, this paper deals with the PM performance evaluations in a pole changing memory motor (PCMM). The PCMM can change the number of magnetic poles and produce two types of torque. When the motor operates with eight poles, it produces a magnetic torque at low rotational speeds. When the motor changes to four poles, it produces both magnetic torque and reluctance torque at high speeds. The paper explain the principle and basic characteristics of the motor by using a finite element method magnetic-field analysis, which consists of a PM magnetized by a pulse d-axis current of the armature winding. The results of our experiment show that the proposed motor reduces core loss by 10% and 55% under no-load and load conditions, and doubles the speed range of the motor.

  • We have developed a new torque magnetometric method for measuring the M-H hysteresis loop of a spheroid-shape magnetic material having a uniaxial anisotropy. Our torque magnetometric method gives the saturation magnetization as well as the remnant magnetization, simultaneously. A torque magnetometer having the torque sensitivity of $10^{-6}$ dyn cm could give the extreamly high sensitivity of $10^{-9}$ emu in measuring the magnetic moment, which is high enough to measure the magnetic moment of a monolayer Ni film. The accuracy of the present method was negligibly affected even at the applied fields near the coercivity where magnetization was inhomogeneous.

  • The attitude information of spacecraft can be obtained by the sensors attached to it using a star tracker, three-axis magnetometer, three-axis gyroscope, and a global positioning signal receiver. By using these sensors, the spacecraft can be maneuvered by actuators that generate torques. In particular, electromagnetic-torque bars can be used for attitude control and as a momentum-canceling instrument. The spacecraft momentum can be created by the current through the electrical circuits and coils. Thus, the current around the electromagnetic-torque bars is a critical factor for precisely controlling the spacecraft. In connection with these concerns, a solar-cell array can be considered to prevent generation of a magnetic dipole moment because the solar-cell array can introduce a large amount of current through the electrical wires. The maximum value of a magnetic dipole moment that cannot affect precise control is $0.25A{\cdot}m^2$, which takes into account the current that flows through the reaction-wheel assembly and the magnetic-torque current. In this study, we designed a 300-W solar cell array and presented an optimal wire-routing method to minimize the magnetic dipole moment for space applications. We verified our proposed method by simulation.

  • Using a magnetic gear, the speed and torque of the driving axis can be decreased and increased, respectively, similar to a mechanical speed reducer. In particular, because the driving side can be isolated mechanically from the load side, the magnetic gear was developed for application with environmental constraints. Of the existing topologies used for the magnet gear, the filtering method of a specified magnetic component is the most competitive. In this paper, a novel unified harmonic modulator is applied to filter the specified component. The torque conversion method using this modulator is described in detail, and the key factors of the modulator are derived from the influence on the resulting torque. The experimental setup was constructed and its torque transmission efficiency measured for varying loads. The transient characteristic from an excessive load is compared with the theoretical simulation.

  • The vibration soucre of motor has a electromagnetic and mechanical causes. The most widely known, electromagnetic reasons are cogging torque and RMF(Radial magnetic force). Recently, analysis of the cogging torque has been made actively. but analysis of the RMF was not filled. So, in this paper, analyzed RMF. the vibration test were performed for the basic and reduced model of cogging torque and RMF. And it analyzed for the effect of each factor on the vibration. Finally, the vibration was formulated for stator's weight and RMF. To this end, natural, cogging torque and RMF of frequency were analyzed and these relationships were considered.

  • The torque of SRM depends on phase current and the derivative of inductance. But the inductance of SRM is nonlinearly changed according to rotor position angle and phase current because of saturation in magnetic circuit.   • The magnetic saliency effect in surface-mounted permanent-magnet (SMPM) motors on the torque control at high speeds is first presented and analyzed in this paper. The d- and q- axes impedance are measured by proposed State-Filter. Measurement of the d- and q- axes impedance difference is performed to prove the existence of the magnetic saliency. Then, the saliency effects on the torque control performance in the flux weakening region are discussed. Based on the developed motor modeling with the reluctance torque, the proposed control adjusts the d- and q-axis current toward the operating point to track the commanded torque. The feasibility of the presented idea is verified by experimental results on a commercial 600[W] SMPM motor.

  • The reduction ratio of the magnetic gear is determined by the ratio of the number of poles between the high-speed permanent magnet layer and the low-speed permanent magnet layer. In general, it is known that the greater the least common multiple of both poles, the smaller the torque ripple called by cogging of the magnetic force generated in the magnetic gear. However, little is known about the effect of the harmonic modulator that filters the magnetic field in the magnetic gear to magnetically couple the high-speed side and the low-speed side except for the number of poles. In this study, torque ripple characteristics according to changes in modulator shape such as opening ratio and tooth thickness are analyzed using a finite element analysis tool.

  • Magnetic torquer, which uses torque between magnetic dipole moment and earth magnetic field, has been used to control attitude of satellites. In this work, we developed a magnetic torquer for small scientific satellite and test under environmental conditions of the satellite launching and orbital motion have been carried out. The developed magnetic torquer shows saturation magnetic dipole moment of $15Am^2$, linearity of 0.3 % in the range of ${\pm}12Am^2$, mass of 0.46 kg, and power consumption of 1 Watt at magnetic dipole moment of $10Am^2$.
