The present paper deals with the analytical solution of a functionally graded piezoelectric (FGP) cylinder in the magnetic field under mechanical, thermal and electrical loads. All mechanical, thermal and electrical properties except Poisson ratio can be varied continuously and gradually along the thickness direction of the cylinder based on a power function. The cylinder is assumed to be axisymmetric. Steady state heat transfer equation is solved by considering the appropriate boundary conditions. Using Maxwell electro dynamic equation and assumed magnetic field along the axis of the cylinder, Lorentz's force due to magnetic field is evaluated for non homogenous state. This force can be employed as a body force in the equilibrium equation. Equilibrium and Maxwell equations are two fundamental equations for analysis of the problem. Comprehensive solution of Maxwell equation is considered in the present paper for general states of non homogeneity. Solution of governing equations may be obtained using solution of the characteristic equation of the system. Achieved results indicate that with increasing the non homogenous index, different mechanical and electrical components present different behaviors along the thickness direction. FGP can control the distribution of the mechanical and electrical components in various structures with good precision. For intelligent properties of functionally graded piezoelectric materials, these materials can be used as an actuator, sensor or a component of piezo motor in electromechanical systems.

the magnetic field homogeneities of the induction coils of various sizes and shapes were investigated in order to prepare for the magnetic field immunity test under the power frequency, the pulse and the damed oscillatory fields recommended by the IEC. For this purpose, we analyzed the magnetic field homogeneities in the two induction coils with $1m\times1m$, and $1m\times2.6m$, , and the double square coils with 0.8m and 0.6m spaced. The testing volume within $\pm$3dB in the double square coil with 0.8m spaced in twice bigger than single square coil with 1m side in the z-direction.

This paper is to suggest a concept design of the permanent magnet type magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device based on the parameter optimization method. Pulse currents in the gradient coils will introduce the effect of eddy currents in the ferromagnetic material, which will worsen the quality of imaging. In order to equalize the magnetic flux in the MRI device for good imaging, the eddy current effect in the ferromagnetic material must be taken into account. This study attempts to use the design of experiment (DOE) and the response surface method (RSM) for equalizing the magnetic flux of the permanent magnet type MRI device using that the magnetic flux can be calculated directly using a commercial finite element analysis package. As a result, optimal shapes of the pole and the yoke of the PM type MRI device can be obtained. The commercial package, ANSYS, is used for analyzing the magnetic field problem and obtaining the resultant magnetic flux.
The low magnetic field standard below 1 mT with resolution of 100 nT has been established for the calibration and testing of low field magnetometers. A precision single layered solenoid, which is made of quartz tube and bare copper wire, was constructed in order to generate a precise magnetic field. To improve the field homogeneity in the solenoid, three-current method was employed. The injected current and injection points on the solenoid were optimized by computer simulation. The magnetic field uncertainty in the solenoid was 0.1 % and 0.01 % in the range of ${\pm}5\;cm$ from the center for a single and three-current methods respectively. We also constructed a testing system for the dynamic properties of low field magnetometers.
Although high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets have the potential merit of producing ultra-high field (>25 T), they have been not easy to apply to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) because of the difficulty of field homogeneity improvement. This paper presents a design technique of passive shimming for HTS magnets. Ferromagnetic shimming design code was developed though MALAB, which includes the optimization algorithm. The proper shim element size was determined by a simulation. This design technique was verified by a case study design of a 3-T HTS magnet. We succeed to improve field homogeneity of the magnet from 634 ppm to 6.39 ppm at 10-mm diameter sphere volume. Feasibility of passive shimming for all-HTS NMR magnet was confirmed by this result.
The electro-magneto- thermo-elastic behavior of a rotating functionally graded long hollow cylinder with functionally graded piezoelectric (FGPM) layers is analytically analyzed. The layers are imperfectly bonded to its inner and outer surfaces. The hybrid cylinder is placed in a constant magnetic field subjected to a thermo-electro-mechanical loading and could be rested on a Winkler-type elastic foundation. The material properties of the FGM cylinder and radially polarized FGPM layers are assumed to be graded in the radial direction according to the power law. The hybrid cylinder is rotating about its axis at a constant angular velocity. The governing equations are solved analytically and then stresses, displacement and electric potential distribution are calculated. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effects of material in-homogeneity, magnetic field, elastic foundation, applied voltage, imperfect interface and thermo-mechanical boundary condition on the static behavior of a FG smart cylinder.
To obtain Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) measurement of membrane protein, an NMR magnet is required to generate high intensity, homogeneity, and stability of field. A High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnet is a promising alternative to a conventional Low-Temperature Superconducting (LTS) NMR magnet for high field, current density, and stability margin. Conventionally, an HTS coil has been wound by several winding techniques such as Single-Pancake (SP), Double-Pancake (DP), and layer-wound. The DP winding technique has been frequently used for a large magnet because long HTS wire is generally difficult to manufacture, and maintenance of magnet is convenient. However, magnetic field generated by the slanted turns and the splice leads to field inhomogeneity in Diameter of Spherical Volume (DSV). The field inhomogeneity degrades performance of NMR spectrometer and thus effect of the slanted turns and the splice should be analyzed. In this paper, field gradient of HTS double-pancake coils considering the slanted turns and the splice was calculated using Biot-Savart law and numerical integration. The calculation results showed that magnetic field produced by the slanted turns and the splice caused significant inhomogeneity of field.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to optimize the configuration of body RF coil composed of 4 planar subcoils for low field open MRI. Method: Our low field RE coil is composed of 4 subcoils assumed to be located at both the bottom and top sides of permanent magnet. Each subcoils has 3 main strips. The coil system has mirror inversion symmetry. First, the currents on the strips are obtained by inductance calculation and circuit analysis, Second, all the strips are divided into line strip elements across the strips, the self Inductances of line strip elements and the mutual inductances among the line strip elements are calculated, and current distributions of strip are obtained by circuit analysis, where each strip is considered as parallel combination of line strip elements. Finally all the line strip elements are segmented, magnetic field has been calculated by pseudo electric dipole radiation method, where the current elements are regarded as pseudo electric dipole radiation sources. We have performed above procedures for various configurations of RE coil. The field homogeneity is calculated in the 25 cm DSV.
Rare earth barium copper oxide (REBCO) materials have shown the possibility of high-temperature superconductor (HTS) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) magnets due to their elevated transition temperature. While numerous MRI magnet designs have emerged, there is a growing emphasis on estimating the cost before manufacturing. In this paper, we propose two designs of REBCO whole-body MRI magnets: (1) 1.5 T and (2) 3.0 T, the standard center field choices for hospital use, and compare their costs based on conductor usage. The basis topology of the design method is based on discretized solenoids to enhance field homogeneity. Magnetic stress calculation is done to further prove the mechanical feasibility of their construction. Multi-width winding technique and outer notch structure are used to improve critical current characteristic. We apply consistent constraints for current margins, sizes, and field homogeneities to ensure an equal cost comparison. A graph is plotted to show the cost increase with magnetic flux growth. Additionally, we compare our designs to two additional MRI magnet designs from other publications with respect to the cost and magnetic flux, and present the linear relationship between them.

In high static field magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) systems, $B_0$ fields of 7 T and 9.4 T, the impressed RF field shows larger inhomogeneity than in clinical MRI systems with B0 fields of 1.5 T and 3.0 T. In multi-channel RF coils, the magnitude and phase of the input to each coil element can be controlled independently to reduce the non-uniformity of the impressed RF $B_1^+$ field. The convex optimization technique has been used to obtain the optimum excitation parameters with iterative solutions for homogeneity in a selected ROI(Region of Interest). To demonstrate the technique, the multichannel transmission line coil was modeled together with a human head phantom at 400 MHz for the 9.4 T MRI system and $B_1^+$ fields are obtained. In this paper, all the optimized $B_1^+$ in each isolated ROIs are combined to achieve significantly improved homogeneity over the entire field of view. The simulation results for 9.4 T MRI systems are discussed in detail.
