Magnetoelectric (ME) composites were designed using the PMN-PZT single crystal and Ni foils; the properties and magnetic-field sensitivities of ME composites with different piezoelectric vibration modes (i.e., 31, 32, and 36 modes that depend on the crystal orientation of the single crystal) were compared. In the off-resonance condition, the ME coupling properties of the ME composites with the 32 and 36 piezoelectric vibration modes were better than those of the ME composites with the 31 piezoelectric vibration mode. However, in the resonance condition, the ME coupling properties of the ME composites were almost similar, irrespective of the piezoelectric vibration mode. Additionally, in the off-resonance condition (at 1 kHz), the magnetic-field sensitivity of the ME composites with the 36 piezoelectric vibration mode was up to 2 nT and those of the ME composites with the 31 and 32 piezoelectric vibration modes were up to 5 nT. These magnetic-field sensitivities are similar to those offered by conventional high-sensitivity magnetic-field sensors; the potential of the proposed sensor to replace costly and bulky high-sensitivity magnetic field sensors is significant.
Improvement in microwave absorbance has been investigated by insertion of a periodic air cavity in rubber composites filled with magnetic powders. A mixture of $Co_2Z$ hexagonal ferrite and Fe powders were used as the absorbent fillers in silicone rubber matrix. The complex permeability and complex permittivity of the magnetic composites were measured by reflection/transmission technique. In the grid-type magnetic absorbers, the equivalent permeability (${\mu}_{eq}$) and permittivity (${\varepsilon}_{eq}$) are calculated as a function of air volume rate (K) on the basis of effective medium theory. Reduction in the material parameters (especially, dielectric permittivity and magnetic loss) has been estimated with the increase of K. Plotting the ${\mu}_{eq}$ and ${\varepsilon}_{eq}$ on the solution map of wave-impedance matching, wide bandwidth microwave absorbance has been predicted in the magnetic composites with an optimum value of K.
Magnetoelectric (ME) composites composed of magnetostrictive and piezoelectric materials derive interfacial coupling of magnetoelectric conversion between magnetic and electric properties, thus enabling to detect ultra-low magnetic field. To improve the performance of ME composite sensors, various research teams have explored adopting highly efficient magnetostrictive and piezoelectric phases, tailoring of device geometry/structure, and developing signal process technique. As a result, latest ME composites have achieved not only outstanding ME conversion coefficient but also sensing of ultra-low magnetic field below 1pT. This article reviews the recent research trend of ME composites for sensing of ultra-low magnetic field.

The magnetoelectric characteristics on layered Ni-PZT-Ni, Co, Fe composites by epoxy bonding for magnetic field sensor were investigated in the low-frequency range. The ME coefficient of Ni-PZT-Ni, Ni-PZT-Co and Ni-PZT-Fe composites reaches a maximum of $200mV/cm{\cdot}Oe$ at $H_{dc}=110$ Oe, $106mV/cm{\cdot}Oe$ at $H_{dc}=90$ Oe and $87mV/cm{\cdot}Oe$ at $H_{dc}=160$ Oe, respectively. A trend of ME charateristics on Ni-PZT-Co, Ni-PZT-Fe composites was similar to that of Ni-PZT-Ni composites. The ME output voltage shows linearly proportional to ac field $H_{ac}$ and is about 0~150 mV at $H_{ac}$=0~7 Oe and f=110 Hz in the typical Ni-PZT-Ni sample. The frequency shift effect due to the load resistance $R_L$ shows that the frequency range for magnetic field sensor application can be modulated with appropriate load resistance $R_L$. This sample will allow for a low-magnetic ac field sensor in the low-frequency (near f=110 Hz).
We investigated annealing effect of microforged powders on magnetic properties and electromagnetic absorption behaviors for ferromagnetic Fe-Cr metal alloy powder-polymer composites. The coercive properties greatly decreased with annealing temperature and the magnetic permeability had significantly increased after microforging and subsequent annealing treatment, due to a reduction in lattice strain of the microforged powders. The power loss in the far field regime also had greatly increased after microforging and subsequent annealing treatment in frequency range from 50 MHz to 6 GHz. As a result, the electromagnetic absorption of ferromagnetic Fe-Cr alloy metal powder-polymer composites was highly improved because of the relaxation of the internal strain during annealing process.
To evaluate the electromagnetic power absorption in near field, the magnetic composites with the conductive grids were simulated using the typical permeability frequency profiles. The transmission power absorptions of the magnetic composites on microstrip line were extracted by the 3D FEM simulation program of HFSS. The magnitudes of power absorptions were greatly enhanced up to 98% and broadened the absorbing frequency band over 5 GHz by the insertion of a conductive grid in magnetic composite. The initial frequency of the power absorption can controlled by the change of the ferromagnetic resonance frequencies of the magnetic composite.
On the base of experience in development of Magnetic Powder Composites, and particularly Soft Magnetic Composites, authors are trying to systematize classification and indicate possible development prospective of Magnetic Nanocomposites (MN) technology and their applications in electrical converters. Clear classification and systematization, at an early stage of any materials and technology development, are essential and lead for better understanding and communication between researchers and industry involved. This concern MN as well and it seems to be the right time to make it at present stage of their development. Presented proposal of classification distinguishes various types of MN by their magnetic properties and area of possible applications. It is not a close set of types, and can be extended due to increase of knowledge concern these nanocomposites.
Ferromagnetic ${\tau}-phase$$Mn_{54}Al_{46}C_{2.44}$ particles were synthesized, and its composites with commercial $Sm_2Fe_{17}N_3$ and synthesized $Fe_{65}Co_{35}$ powders were fabricated. Smaller grain size than the single domain size of the $Mn_{54}Al_{46}C_{2.44}$ without obvious grain boundaries and secondary phases is the origin for the low intrinsic coercivity. It was confirmed that the magnetic properties of the $Mn_{54}Al_{46}C_{2.44}$ can be enhanced by magnetic exchange coupling with the hard magnetic $Sm_2Fe_{17}N_3$ and soft magnetic $Fe_{65}Co_{35}$. The high degrees of the exchange coupling were verified by calculating first derivative curves. Thermo-magnetic stabilities of the composites from 100 to 400 K were measured and compared. It was demonstrated that the $Mn_{54}Al_{46}C_{2.44}$ based composites containing $Sm_2Fe_{17}N_3$ and $Fe_{65}Co_{35}$ could be promising candidates for future permanent magnetic materials with the proper control of purity, magnetic properties, etc.

The forming process of metal matrix composites by the die casting and squeeze casting process are limited in size and dimension in term of final parts without machining. The thixoforming process for metal matrix composites has numerous advantages compared to die casting, squeeze casting and compocasting. The characteristics of thixoforming process can decrease the liquid segregation because of he improvement in fluidity in a globular microstructure state and utilizes flow without air entrapment. Therefore, in order to obtain the sound parts of metal matrix composites by using thixoforming process which as co-existing solidus-liquidus pahse, it si very important to obtain reheating condition. However, for he thixoforming process, the billet with the desired volume fraction must be heated to obtain a uniform temperature distribution over the entire cross-sectional areas. To obtain the reheating conditions of composites, the particulate reinforced metal matrix composites for thixoforming were fabricated by combined stirring process which is simultaneously performed with electro-magnetic stirring process which is simultaneously performed with electro-magnetic stirring and mechanical stirring process.

Perovskite manganites such as $RE_{1-x}A_xMnO_3$ (RE = rare earth, A = Ca, Sr, Ba) have been the subject of intense research in the last few years, ever since the discovery that these systems demonstrate colossal magnetoresistance (CMR). The CMR is usually explained with the double-exchange (DE) mechanism, and CMR materials have potential applications for magnetic switching, recording devices, and more. However, the intrinsic CMR effect is usually found under the conditions of a magnetic field of several Teslas and a narrow temperature range near the Curie temperature ($T_c$). This magnetic field and temperature range make practical applications impossible. Recently, another type of MR, called the low-field magnetoresistance(LFMR), has also been a research focus. This MR is typically found in polycrystalline half-metallic ferromagnets, and is associated with the spin-dependent charge transport across grain boundaries. Composites with compositions $La_{0.7}(Ca_{1-x}Sr_x)_{0.3}MnO_3)]_{0.99}/(BaTiO_3)_{0.01}$$[(LCSMO)_{0.99}/(BTO)_{0.01}]$were prepared with different Sr doping levels x by a standard ceramic technique, and their electrical transport and magnetoresistance (MR) properties were investigated. The structure and morphology of the composites were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). BTO peaks could not be found in the XRD pattern because the amount of BTO in the composites was too small. As the content of x decreased, the crystal structure changed from orthorhombic to rhombohedral. This change can be explained by the fact that the crystal structure of pure LCMO is orthorhombic and the crystal structure of pure LSMO is rhombohedral. The SEM results indicate that LCSMO and BTO coexist in the composites and BTO mostly segregates at the grain boundaries of LCSMO, which are in accordance with the results of the magnetic measurements. The resistivity of all the composites was measured in the range of 90-400K at 0T, 0.5T magnetic field. The result indicates that the MR of the composites increases systematically as the Ca concentration increases, although the transition temperature $T_c$ shifts to a lower range.
