  • High sensitivity magnetic sensor having foreign metal detection capability is proposed utilizing giant magneto-impedance effect. Strip sensor showed the increasing output voltage when the external magnetic field was applied along with strip from strip grounding point, although the initial DC voltage varied depending on the pointing direction of strip sensor. Proposed sensor was able to eliminate more than half of background noise using active noise filter to achive high sensitivity, and it showed the capability to detect magnetized foreign metal object independent of ambient electro-magnetic noise and earth magnet. In case of ferrous sphere, the metal detection up to 0.8mm diameter was experimentally demonstrated at 5mm distance from strip sensor.

  • Recently, various navigational instruments are being composed into a total navigational system. This system requires accurate ship's heading in digital form. The authors have been studying about an electromagnetic compass with a three - axis magnetic sensor in order to provide an accurate ship's magnetic heading which the compass deviations can automatically compensated in the compass itself. In this pater describe on the theory how to derive the poisson's coefficients from ship's magnetism measured with three axis magnetic sensor and the results obtained by the simulation using deviascope, and that results practically coincident with the value observed by bearing on a distant object with magnetic compass.

  • With the object of developing a new magnetic core materials for high frequency use, the crystallization behaviors and the soft magnetic properties of amorphous $F_{86-x}Al_{4}B_{10}Zr_{x}\;(5{\leq}x{\leq}10\;at%)$ alloys subjected to annealing treatment at wide temperature range were investigated. For optimally annealed $Fe_{86-x}Al_{4}B_{10}Zr_{x}$ alloys in amorphous state, rather good soft magnetic properties of ${\mu}_{e}=17000~25000,\;H_{c}=20~30$ mOe and $B_{10}{\geq}0.6$ T are obtained. However, as the alloys crystallize, the soft magnetic properties are largely dergely deteriorated, which is attributed principally to the narrow temperature gap between $T_{x1}$ and $T_{x2}$, which allows the nearly co-precipitation of bcc phase and Fe-B compounds in incipient crystallization stage.

  • We have constructed a multi-channel SQUID magnetometer system for localization and classification of magnetic targets. Ten SQUID magnetometers were arranged to measure 5 independent components of 3 $\times$ 3 magnetic field gradient tensor. To get gradient from the difference of magnetic field measurements, we carefully balanced magnetometers. SQUIDs with slotted washer were used for operation in an unshielded laboratory environment, and noise characteristic in the laboratory was measured. With the multi-channel SQUID magnetometer system, we have successfully traced the motion of a bar magnet moving around it at a distance of about 1 m. In the urban environment, the drift of uniform magnetic field due to the irregular motion of a large magnetic body at distance and earth field causes an error in the position calculation, and this results in the distortion of the calculated trajectory. In this paper, we present the architecture and the performance of the system.

  • This paper presents a analytical field solutions for the general class of Linear Brushless DC(LBLDC) motors with PM mover and 3-phase winding stator. In our magnetic field analysis, we have adopted an approach which can treat both magnetized material and winding from the each field analysis by magnetic vector potential considering 2-Dimensional slot modeling. Therefore, we give accurate analytical formulas and object function for design and parameters estimation by its magnetic field.

  • In this paper, we address a position control scheme for a stage system, which is levitated and driven by electric magnetic actuators. This consists of a levitating object (called platen) with 4 permanent magnetic linear synchronous motors in parallel. Each motor generates vertical force for suspension against gravity and propulsion force horizontally as well. This stage can generate six degrees of freedom motion by the vertical and horizontal forces. Dynamic equations of the stage system are derived based on Newton-Euler method and its special Jacobian matrix describing a relation between the Joint velocity and platen velocity is done. There are proposed two control schemes for positioning, which are Cartesian space controller and Joint space controller. The control performance of the Cartesian space controller is better than the Joint space controller in task space trajectory while the Joint space controller is simpler than the Cartesian space controller in controller realization.

  • The matching pursuit (MP) algorithm developed by S. Mallat and Z. Zhang is applied to magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. Since matching pursuit is a greedy algorithm to find waveforms which are the best match for an object-signal, the signal can be decomposed with a few iterations. In this paper, we propose an application of the MP algorithm to the MR imaging to reduce imaging time. Inner products of residual signals and selected waveforms in the MP algorithm are derived from the MR signals by excitation of RF pulses which are fourier transforms of selected waveforms. Results from computer simulations demonstrate that the imaging time is reduced by using the MP algorithm and further a progressive reconstruction can be achieved.

  • In this paper, we address two position control scheme; the lead-lag control and the sliding mode control for a stage system, which is levitated and driven by electric magnetic actuators. This consists of a levitating object (called platen) with 4 permanent magnetic linear synchronous motors in parallel. Each motor generates vertical force for suspension against gravity and propulsion force horizontally as well. The sliding mode control algorithm is more effective than the lead-lag control algorithm to reduce effects from movements and disturbances of other axis.

  • When 345 kV transmission lines began to be operated in 1976,electrostatic shocks were problems due to high electric field. By reducing the electirc field below 3.5 kV/m, the problems were solved. But recently a transmission line route.is proposed, nearby people strongly object to build the line worrying abour the effect of magnetic field, even though they do not really know the megnetic effect. Some environmentalists insists to reduce to reduce the magnetis field to a few mG near the transmission line. So we have studied the mitigation method to reduce magnetic field by two conductor passive loop.
