  • Application of induction machines in wind turbine driven generators is a good alternative due to their good characteristics such as efficiency, reliability and low cost. Nevertheless, when isolated operation is required, the application of external capacitive bank, connected to the stator windings, to provide self-excitation results in a rather complex analysis. This paper presents an analysis of self-excited induction generator connected to a load either directly or by an intermediate of a power converter. At first a dynamic model of the induction generator accounting for magnetic saturation is developed. Then a number of balanced and unbalanced capacitors, passive and active loads are verified. Experimental results obtained from laboratory tests are compared to those simulated; the two are shown to be in good agreement.

  • Induction motor is the most widely used to obtain the driving force in the industrial site. Induction motor generates a high current at startup. Most of starting currents are often more than five times of rated current. This high starting current can cause problems such as the voltage drop in the system. In order to solve these problems, if the motor capacity is large, generally we use reactor starting method rather than direct on line starting method. When a high startup current passes through reactor, reactor can serve as a nonlinear elements. In this study, we analyzed that the current, torque and power of the induction motor are different from the change of linear and nonlinear components of the reactor magnetic field.

  • The accurate determination of induction motor efficiency depends on the estimation of the five losses of stator and rotor copper loss, iron loss, mechanical loss and stray load loss. As the mechanical and stray load losses are not calculated by electro-magnetic analysis, the values of these two losses are very important in induction motor design. In this paper, the values of mechanical loss and stray load loss are proposed through investigating testing data from commercial products of three phase induction motors under 37kW. If the values of this paper are applied to motor design, the accuracy of design and analysis can be improved. The losses of motors are obtained by using load and no-load test results following IEC 60034-2-1 standard.

  • Induction heating is a process with magnetic and thermal situation. Induction heating of flat metal products has an increasing importance in many applications, because it generates the heat within workpiece itself and provides high power densities and productivity. When the high frequency electric current flows in a coil, the process parameters which are air gap, power density, and heating time have a important roles on induction heating of steel plate. This study investigates an influence of the process parameters by means of experiments using Taguchi method.

  • Induction heating is widely used in today's industry, in operations such as metal hardening, preheating for forging operations, melting or cooking. In this paper, it was presented the magneto-thermal analysis of an induction heating jar(IH-JAR) with the material value of the stainless and the aluminum for efficient design. The magnetic field intensity inside the axisymmetric shaped cooker was analyzed using three-dimensional axisymmetric finite element method(FEM) and the effectual heat source was obtained by ohmic losses from eddy currents induced in the jar. The heat was calculated using the heat source and heating equation. Also, it was represented the temperature characteristics of the IH-JAR according to time and relative permeability in stainless parts and in aluminum parts.

  • The accuracy of all the schemes that belong to vector controlled induction machine drives is strongly affected by parameter variations. The aim of this paper is to examine iron losses and magnetic saturation effect in sensorless vector control of induction machines. At first, an approach to induction machine modelling and vector control scheme, which account for both iron loss and saturation, is presented. Then, a model reference adaptive system (MRAS) based speed estimator is developed. The speed estimation is modified in such a way that iron losses and the variation in the saturation level are compensated. Thus by substituting an artificial neural network flux estimator into the MRAS speed estimator. Experimental results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • This paper presents vector magnetic properties of an electrical steel sheet (ESS) employed for electric machine and iron loss analysis considering the vector magnetic properties of the ESS. The vector magnetic properties of the ESS are measured by using a two-dimensional single sheet tester and modeled by an E&S vector hysteresis model to be applied to finite element method. The finite element analysis considering the vector magnetic properties is applied to iron loss analysis of a three-phase induction motor model, and the influences of the vector magnetic properties on the iron loss distribution are verified by comparing with numerical results from a typical B-H curve model.

  • The electric wave propagation characteristics of electromagnetic field by induction current shows a nonlinear distinction in the metal but linear on air. This paper is written about the magnetic transmission distinction in the metalic tube, which wrapped the center axis by the same direction. The electromagnetic field made by the transmission signal is transferred from the transmission coil area toward the receiving coil by the magnetic diffusion. So, it is different magnetic flux around the coil with one in the remote field area. Analyzing such a complex magnetic characteristic, we verified this theory by the vector analysis and presented eddy current mechanism and analytical model about magnetic distribution in the remote field area. This magnetic distribution rate in metal body will be very useful in the nondestructive inspection of the eddy current in remote field which is recently rising as a new technology.

  • In this paper, an electromagnetic induction on a telecommunication line by the distribution line of a power provision system or a feeder line of an electrified railway system has been verified through experiments. The basic cause of induction occurrence by these practical power provision systems is the returning current through the earth. This principle has been confirmed by the experiments documented in this paper which implemented these mechanisms to incur an induction. Experimental methods were used to produce the returning current through the earth. The experiment to find a relationship between inducing strength and the distance between the two phase lines in a power provision line has also been included to confirm that, when the distance is enlarged, the induction effect increases as the cross-nullification effect of magnetic fluxes decreases. An experiment for the existence of a shielding effect by another conduction length material has been addedas a protection measure against the induction.
