Magnesium alloys become popular research topic in last decade due to its light weight and relatively high strength-to-weight ratio in the energy aspiration age. Almost all structure materials are supposed to suspend stress. Magnesium is quite sensitive to corrosive environment, and also sensitive to environmental assisted cracking. However, so far we have the limited knowledge about the environmental sensitive cracking of magnesium alloys. The corrosion fatigue (CF) test was conducted. Many factors' effects, like grain size, texture, heat treatment, loading frequency, stress ratio, strain rate, chemical composition of environment, pH value, relative humidity were investigated. The results showed that all these factors had obvious influence on the crack initiation and propagation. Especially the dependence of CF life on pH value and frequency is quite different to the other traditional structural metallic materials. In order to interpret the results, the electrochemistry tests by polarization dynamic curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were conducted with and without stress. The corrosion of magnesium alloys was also studied by in-situ observation in environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM). The corrosion rate changed with the wetting time during the initial corrosion process. The pre-charging of hydrogen caused crack initiated at $\beta$ phase, and with the increase of wetting time the crack propagated, implying that hydrogen produced by corrosion reaction participated in the process.

Magnesium has many desirable properties of which the high strength/weight ratio makes it extremely valuable in automobile and aerospace industry. However, the high corrosion susceptibility of magnesium and its alloys has greatly limited their large scale use for various applications. Organic coating is one of the most effective ways to prevent magnesium alloys from corrosion. An organic coating is normally used in the final stage of a coating process. It can enhance corrosion resistance of magnesium and its alloys. Organic coating involves a variety of process such as painting, powder coating, cathodic electrocoating (E-painting) and the application of lacquers, enamel and varnishes.

Magnesium alloys are being extensively used in weight-saving applications and as a potential replacement for plastics in electronic and computer applications. Magnesium alloy has some good characteristics, EMI shielding property and high specific strength. Nevertheless their high brittleness make it uneasy to process the magnesium. Magnesium alloys are extruded like aluminium alloys. The present work was done to find a characteristic of magnesium alloy(AZ31) changing the extrusion ratio 8.5, 19.1, 49 respectly and changing the die half angle $30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ},\;60^{\circ}$. Here this present done by the hydrostatic extrusion in the hot condition, $310^{\circ}$. The higher the extrusion ratio goes, the higher the extrusion force goes.
Representative magnesium alloys applied to the die-casting are AZ91, AM60, etc., and the application of these alloys is restricted to components operating at moderate temperatures, due to grain boundary siding of ${\beta}$-phase($Mg_{17}Al_{12}$) at temperatures above $120^{\circ}C$. Heat-resistant magnesium alloys such as AE42, AE44 have been developed, but that have been too burdensome to produce because of the expensive rare earth materials. Research work for the development of low-priced heat-resistant magnesium alloy is actively in progress and positive results are being reported. This study aims to investigate the effect of Ca additions on mechanical properties of Mg-4Al-2Sn heat resistant magnesium alloys. Mg-4Al-2Sn alloys with Ca (0wt.%, 0.3wt.%, 0.7wt.%, 1wt.%) have been produced through the die-casting process for the development of low-priced heat-resistant magnesium alloy, and high temperature tensile tests are performed using the specimens. The results showed that mechanical properties of Mg-4Al-2Sn-xCa increased with the addition of Ca up to 0.7wt.% Ca and further addition of Ca deteriorated the mechanical properties of the alloys. A significant amount of porosity was observed at the sample with 1wt%. Ca and the longer freezing range of the alloy was believed to cause the formation of porosity.

Magnesium and its alloys are being applied to various kinds of industrial fields, especially their use on automotive parts and electronic part. These parts are manufactured mainly through diecasting process and magnesium ingots are used as raw materials. In the case that ingot quality is not secured, massive casting defects can occur and some manufactures can be damaged by the defects. This study is to evaluate ingots' cleanliness of magnesium alloys. It includes composition analysis by spectrometer, measurement of inclusion contents by SEM, brightness test on fractured surface and etc. Especially, the brightness test is a very easy and quick evaluation method. The brightness becomes low when the amount of oxides or inclusions on the surface increases. The brightness test data have been compared with those obtained from other methods for measuring the mount of impurities, which showed good relationship between the brightness and the others. Thus, the brightness test could be a promising method to measure the cleanliness of magnesium alloys.
New wrought magnesium alloys have increasingly been developed in recent years for the automotive industry due to their high potential as structural materials for low density and high strength/weight ratio demands. However, their poor mechanical properties and low corrosion resistance have led to a search for new kinds of magnesium alloys with better strength, ductility, and high corrosion resistance. The main objective of this research is to investigate the corrosion behaviour of new magnesium alloys: Mg-Zn-Ag (ZQ), Mg-Zn-Mn-Si (ZSM) and Mg-Zn-Mn-Si-Ca (ZSMX). These ZQ6X, ZSM6X1, and ZSM651+YCa alloys were prepared using hot extrusion. AC, DC polarization and immersion tests were carried out on the extruded rods. Microstructure was examined using optical and electron microscopy (SEM) and EDS. The addition of silver decreased the corrosion resistance. The additions of silicon and calcium also affected the corrosion behaviour. These results can be explained by the effects of alloying elements on the microstructure of Mg-Zn alloys such as grain size and precipitates caused by the change in precipitation and recrystallisation behaviour.

Magnesium and magnesium alloys, the lightest structural materials, have been received plenty of global attention recently. These alloys could be applied in various fields, especially the electronics industry, because of their excellent electromagnetic interference shielding. However, the welding technique of magnesium alloys has not been established. This study is related to the welding of AZ31B magnesium alloy by a short-pulsed a Nd:YAG laser. Two types of pulse waves, square pulse and variable pulse, were used to control weld defects. Results show that the crack and porosity, generated in the weld, had not been controlled by general square pulse. But through the application of variable pulse, the defects could be prevented and the good weld zone was obtained.
The automotive and electronic industries have seriously considered the use of magnesium alloys because of their excellent properties such as strength to weight ratio, EMI shielding capability, etc. However, it is difficult to form magnesium alloys at room temperature because of the mechanical deformation related to twinning. Hence, magnesium alloys are normally formed at elevated temperatures. In this study, a temperature dependent constitutive model, the C-H/V model, for the magnesium alloy AZ31B sheet is proposed. A hardening law based on nonlinear kinematic and H/V(Hollomon/Voce) hardening model is used to properly characterize the Bauschinger effect and the stabilization of the flow stress. Material parameters were determined from a series of uni-axial cyclic experiments(C-T-C) with the temperature ranging between 150 and $250^{\circ}C$. The developed models are fit to experimental data and a comparison is made.

In recent years, Magnesium(Mg) and its alloys have become a center of special interest in the automotive industry. Due to their high specific mechanical properties, they offer a significant weight saving potential in modern vehicle constructions. Most Mg alloys show very good machinability and processability, and even the most complicated die casting parts can be easily produced. In this study, Microstructure, Vickers hardness and tensile tests were examined and performed for each specimen to verify effects of forming conditions. Also to verify upsettability and forming limit of the specimen at room temperature and elevated temperature, upsetting experiments were performed. For comparison, experiments at elevated temperature were performed for various Mg alloy, such as AZ31, AZ91, and AM50. The experimental results were compared with those of CAE analysis to propose forming limit of Magnesium alloys.
Magnesium alloys have many advantages such as light-weight, high machinability, damping capacity, etc. So magnesium alloy parts have been used in transportation, mobile phone, military industries. Because of HCP atomic structure, Magnesium is very difficult in plastic deformation process, so most of magnesium products are fabricated by casting process. Magnesium alloys have low heat-capacity, high fluidity and low Fe solubility. For these reasons it is more suitable than aluminum in mass-production by casting. And various casting technologies have been developed. So casting technologies for magnesium developed recently is discussed in this paper.
