  • In order to acquire more comprehensive understanding of textile composites, the processing-microstructure-performance relationships for a variety of material systems, reinforcing schemes and processing technologies should be established. In this paper, emphasis is placed on the integrated analysis of three-dimensional (3-D) 2-step braided composites. The analysis includes the geometric model of unit cells, identification of key process parameters and processing windows due to limiting geometries of yarn jamming, and prediction of elastic constants of the composite. The coordinate transformation and averaging of stiffness and compliance constants are utilized in the prediction of elastic constants. Since there are several types of unit cells in the thickness and width directions of the composites, characterization of mechanical properties is based upon the macro-cell, which occupies the entire cross-section and the unit pitch length of the sample. The performance map demonstrates that a wide range of elastic properties can be achieved by varying the geometric and process parameters.

  • The concept of a new linear motor that uses piezo-stack actuator is demonstrated. The working principle is far different from the conventional inchworm motor. This motor is based on the self-moving cell concept. The linear motor has three cells and each cell is constructed with one piezo-stack actuator and a shell structure. A cell train is constructed by connecting these cells and the cell train is fitted into a guide way with a proper interference. The cell train moves along the guide way, by activating each cell in succession. The moving motion of the motor is tested. Since this linear motor uses piezo-stack actuator with unified clamping cell, it can produce fast speed, high resolution and large push force.

  • This paper proposes a graph matching algorithm based on simulated annealing, which assures the globally optimal solution for circuit partitioning for the placement in the rectilinear region occurring as a result of the pre-placement of some macro cells, or onto the nonplanar surface in some military or space applications. The circuit graph ($G_{C}$) denoting the circuit topology is formed by a hierarchical bottom-up clustering of cells, while another graph called region graph ($G_{R}$) represents the geometry of a planar rectilinear region or a nonplanar surface for circuit placement. Finding the optimal many-to-one vertex mapping function from $G_{C}$ to $G_{R}$, such that the total mismatch cost between two graphs is minimal, is a combinatorial optimization problem which was solved in this work for various examples using simulated annealing.

  • The present study includes macro and microscopical details, powder study, physico-chemical study and HPTLC fingerprinting of the Piper longum fruits. Microscopic studies revealed the presence of stone cells, starch grains and thin walled fragments of parenchymatous cells. Physico-chemical studies showed alcohol and ether soluble extract 24.53 and 6.7, sugar 0.35, starch 21.33 and tannin 0.83% respectively. Successive soxhlet extract showed maximum percentage of hexane soluble fraction i.e. 22.52. The HPTLC profile has also been performed against the reference marker pipeline, which was identified at R$_f$ 0.42. In the present paper a detailed pharmacognostical evaluation of fruit has been undertaken.

  • Recently, the traffic volume of mobile communications increases rapidly and the small-cell is one of the solutions using two offload schemes, i.e., local IP access (LIPA) and selected IP traffic offload (SIPTO), to reduce the end-to-end delay and amount of mobile data traffic in the core network (CN). However, 3GPP describes the concept of LIPA and SIPTO and there is no decision algorithm to decide the path from source nodes (SNs) to destination nodes (DNs). Therefore, this paper proposes a dynamic mobile data traffic offload scheme using small-cells to decide the path based on the SN and DN, i.e., macro user equipment, small-cell user equipment (SUE), and multimedia server, and type of the mobile data traffic for the real-time and non-real-time. Through analytical models, it is shown that the proposed offload scheme outperforms the conventional small-cell network in terms of the delay of end-to-end mobile data communications and probability of the mobile data traffic in the CN for the heterogeneous networks.

  • Wireless access technologies are emerging to enable high data rates for mobile users and novel applications that encompass both human and machine-type interactions. An essential approach to meet the rising demands on network capacity and offer high coverage for wireless users on upcoming fifth generation (5G) networks is heterogeneous networks (HetNets), which are generated by combining the installation of macro cells with a large number of densely distributed small cells Deployment in 5G architecture has several issues because to the rising complexity of network topology in 5G HetNets with many distinct base station types. Aside from the numerous benefits that dense small cell deployment delivers, it also introduces key mobility management issues such as frequent handover (HO), failures, delays and pingpong HO. This article investigates 5G HetNet mobility management in terms of radio resource control. This article also discusses the key challenges for 5G mobility management.

  • Cognitive small cell networks, consisting of macro-cells and small cells, are foreseen as a promising candidate solution to address 5G spectrum scarcity. Recently, many technological issues (such as spectrum sensing, spectrum sharing) related to cognitive small cell networks have been studied, but the common control channel (CCC) establishment problem has been ignored. CCC is an indispensable medium for control message exchange that could have a huge significant on transmitter-receiver handshake, channel access negotiation, topology change, and routing information updates, etc. Therefore, establishing CCC in cognitive small cell networks is a challenging problem. In this paper, we propose a potential game theory-based approach for CCC establishment in cognitive radio networks. We design a utility function and demonstrate that it is an exact potential game with a pure Nash equilibrium. To maintain the common control channel list (CCL), we develop a CCC update algorithm. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach has good convergence. On the other hand, it exhibits good delay and overhead of all networks.

  • In this study, the stacking phase shift effect on the effective property and stress distribution was investigated for 8-harness satin weave textile composites under uni-axial tension. Textile configurations with varied phase shifts were modeled by unit cells and repeating boundary conditions were applied at the outer periodic surfaces. The effective property and stress were calculated by the unit cell analysis using macro-element to reduce the computational resource. It was found that stresses were dependent on the variation of tow arrangement of adjacent layers. The in-phase and the shifted configurations showed large differences in the stress distribution pattern. The stress level was very high in the resin region and the distribution of the maximum stresses was widely scattered.

  • Tracking is a process which explores user equipment (UE) in the area of tracking in terms of cells. In this paper, two tracking schemes based on macrocell-microcell tiers in hierarchical LTE networks, PMMT and IMMT, are evaluated. In this network, UE can receive a signal from macrocells and overlapping microcells, and can be called from each macrocell or microcell-tier in the PMMT. Also, the UE can be called from the combined macrocell-tier and microcell-tier in the IMMT. Finally, we analyze the optimization of load balance between marcocell-tier and microcell-tier, and an analytical model is developed to evaluate those two arrangements.

  • The light harvesting efficiency is counted as an important factor in the power conversion efficiency of DSSCs. There are two measures to improve this parameter, including enhancing the dye-loading capacity and increasing the light trapping in the photoanode structure. In this paper, these tasks are addressed by introducing a macro-porous silicon (PSi) substrate as photoanode. The effects of the novel photoanode structure on the DSSC performance have been investigated by using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, photocurrent-voltage, UV-visible spectroscopy, reflectance spectroscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. The results indicated that bigger porosity percentage of the PSi structure improved the both anti-reflective/light-trapping and dye-loading capacity properties. PSi based DSSCs own higher power conversion efficiency due to its remarkable higher photocurrent, open circuit voltage, and fill factor. Percent porosity of 64%, PSi(III), resulted in nearly 50 percent increment in power conversion efficiency compared with conventional DSSC. This paper showed that PSi can be a good candidate for the improvement of light harvesting efficiency in DSSCs. Furthermore, this study can be considered a valuable reference for more investigations in the design of multifunctional devices which will profit from integrated on-chip solar power.
