In the present work, modulus of rupture (MOR), flexural toughness properties $(I_{30}\;and\;W_{2.0})$ and workability (slump) of high performance hybrid fiber reinforced concrete (HPHFRC) mixed with micro-fiber (carbon fiber) and macro-fiber (steel fiber), and replaced with a fine mineral admixture such as silica fume (SF) are characterized through the analysis of variance (ANOVA). Data of MOR, $I_{30}(or W_{2.0})$ and slump are used as the characteristic values to estimate flexural performance and workable property of HPHFRC. Specially, an experimental design was Planned according to the fractional orthogoanl nay method to reduce experimental number of times. The experimental results show that steel fiber is a considerable significant factor in MOR and I30 $(W_{2.0})$. Based on the significance of experimental factors about each characteristic factors, the following evaluation can be used: Experiment factors which reduce slump most remarkably are carbon fiber, steel fiber, silica fume order.; Those that improve MOR most significantly are silica fume $({\fallingdotseq}\;carbon\;fiber)$, steel fiber order; Those that increase flexural toughness most distinctly are silica fume, carbon fiber, steel fiber order. It is obtained that the combination of steel fiber $1.0\%$, carbon fiber $0.25\%$ and silica fume $5.0\%$ is the experimental condition that improve MOR and flexural toughness excellently with workability ensured within the experiment.
In order to obtain the basic information needed to utilize poultry by-products as feed resources, the yielding ratio, chemical composition and nutrient bioavailability of 5 offal components such as autoclaved head, feet, viscera, blood and feathers were investigated. Yielding ratios of head, feet, viscera, blood and feathers were 2.93% 4.78%, 10.98%, 3.91% and 4.83%, respectively. The crude protein contents of feathers (86.71%) and blood (82.99%) were higher than those of viscera (64.67%), feet (58.76%) and head (49.51%) , Inversely, the crude fat contents of blood (6.96%) and feathers (2.96%) were lower than those of head (26.19%), viscera (23.96%) and feet (13.73%). The crude ash contents of feet (21.69%) and head (20.38%) were higher than those of other by-products (0.96∼8.62%). The macro-mineral contents of head and feet were higher than those of other components, and the iron content of blood was higher than the other by-products. The total amino acid contents of poultry by-products showed the same trend as the crude protein contents. In addition, the Iysine content of feathers was very low compared to its high protein content. The essential amino acid contents of feathers were poorer than those of other offal components. Among the 5 offal components, the feathers showed the poorest amino acid availabilities. The ME contents were highest in viscera, and head, blood, feathers and feet. in decreasing order.
The problem has been pointed out that the domestic design response spectrum does not reflect site amplification, particularly in the high frequency bands, including the fact that site specific response spectrum from the observed ground motions appears relatively higher than design response spectrum. Among various methods, this study applied H/V spectral ratio of ground motion for estimating site amplification. This method, originated from S waves and Rayleigh waves, recently has been extended to Coda waves and background noise for estimating site amplification. For limited time of periods, 4 electric substation sites had operated seismic stations at two separate locations (bedrock and borehole) within each substation site. H/V spectral ratio of S wave, Coda wave, and background noise, was applied to 36 accelerations of 3 macro earthquakes (Odaesan, Jeju and Gongju earthquakes), larger than magnitude 3.4. observed simultaneously at each bedrock location within 4 electric substation sites. Site amplifications at the bedrock location of 4 sites were compared among S wave, Coda wave energy, and background noise, and then compared to the previous results from the borehole location data. The site classification was also tried using resonancy frequency information at each site and location. The results suggested that all the electric substation sites showed similar site amplification patterns among S wave, Coda wave, and background noise. Each station showed its own characteristics of site amplification property in low, high and specific resonance frequency ranges. Comparison of this study to other results using different method can give us much more information about dynamic amplification of domestic sites characteristics and site classification.
Thirty six barrows with an initial body weight of 28 kg were used to determine the effect of two dietary Se sources and a wide range of Se levels encompassing 0.3, 1.0, 3.0, 5.0, 7.0, and 10.0 mg/kg Se. The organic Se form was a Se-enriched yeast product, whereas the inorganic Se source was sodium selenite. The experiment was a $2{\times}6$ RCB design conducted in three replicates. Each barrow was placed in an individual metabolism crate and provided their dietary treatment and water on an ad libitum basis for a minimum 2 wk period, whereupon feed intake was adjusted to a constant intake within replicate at approximately 90% of intake for a 4 d adjustment period. Urine and feces were subsequently collected for a 7 d period and analyzed for Se and minerals. The results demonstrated that urinary Se was approximately 25% higher when pigs were fed sodium selenite (p<0.01), whereas fecal Se was lower by 25% (p<0.01). Se retention tended to be higher when organic Se was provided (p>0.15). Urinary Se increased as dietary Se level increased for both Se sources but increased more and at a high rate when sodium selenite was fed resulting in an interaction response (p<0.01). Fecal Se increased linearly as the dietary level of both Se sources increased, but the fecal Se from organic Se increased at a faster rate resulting in an interaction response (p<0.01). Se retention increased linearly (p<0.01) as dietary Se increased for both Se sources. The apparent digestibility of Se increased by Se level when pigs were fed sodium selenite, but not when the organic Se source was provided resulting in an interaction response (p<0.05). Retention of consumed Ca, Zn increased when pigs were fed organic Se (p<0.05) whereas P and Na retention were higher when the inorganic Se was provided. Mineral retention was not affected by dietary Se level except P. These results suggest that Se excretion by urine was the main route of excretion when pigs were fed sodium selenite but the fecal route when Se-enriched yeast was provided. The excretion of Fe, Zn, Mn, and Cu via urine and feces was not affected by high dietary Se level or dietary Se sources.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of a 3 week low calorie diet (LCD) and a 9 week of behavior modification (BM) program on the weight loss, mineral and vitamin status in 22 obese women. The subject were healthy, obese (PIBW> $120\%$) women aged 20 - 50 Yr and not taking any medications known to influence body composition, mineral or vitamin metabolism During the LCD program, subjects were provided commercial liquid formulas with 125 kcal per pack and were instructed to have a formula for replacement of one meal and at least one regular meal per day within the range of daily 800 - 1200 kcal intake. During the BM program the subjects weekly attended the group nutrition counseling session to encourage themselves to modify their eating behavior and spontaneously restrict their energy intakes. The BM program focused on stimulus control, control of portion sizes and modification of binge eating and other adverse habits. The initial mean energy intake of subjects was 2016.9 $\pm$ 129.8 kcal ($100.8\%$ of RDA) and dropped to 1276.5 $\pm$ 435.7 kcal at the end of a 3 week of LCD program and elevated to 1762 $\pm$ 329.3 kcal at the end of a 9 week of BM program. Carbohydrate, protein and fat intakes were significantly decreased at the end of the LCD but carbohydrate was the only macro nutrient that showed significant decrease (p < 0.05) at the end of the BM program compared to baseline. Calcium and iron intakes decreased significantly (p < 0.01, respectively) with no significant changes in other micronutrients at the end of the LCD. The mean weight of the subjects decreased from 73.8 $\pm$ 8.0 kg to 69.2 $\pm$ 7.7 kg with LCD and ended up with 67.7 $\pm$ 7.1 kg after 9 weeks of BM. The 3 weeks of LCD reduced most of the anthropometric indices such as BMI, PIBW, fat weight, wast-to-hip ratio and subscapular and suprailiac skinfold thickness. The 9 weeks of behavior modification showed slight change or maintenance of each anthropometric measurements. Weight loss and decreased WHR with the diet program induced significantly decreased systolic blood pressure. SGOT, SGPT and serum insulin levels with improved serum lipid profiles. Biochemical parameters related to iron status such as hemoglobin, hematocrit were significantly decreased (p < 0.01) at the end of the LCD. But their mean values were within normal range. The mean serum 25 (OH) vitamin $D_3$ level significantly increased after whole diet program. Serum folate level significantly decreased after 12 weeks of diet program. In conclusion 3 weeks of LCD brought 4.6 kg reduction in body weight without risk of iron, zinc or vitamin D deficiency and 9 weeks of the BM was effective to maintain nutritional status with slightly more weight reduction (1.5 kg). However calcium intake and serum folate should be monitored during the LCD and BM because of increased risk of deficiencies.
Alkaline reduced water (ARW) has been used for drinking widely in several countries of Asia. The safety and clinical effects of ARW has been reported including anti-oxidative effect and intestinal abnormal fermentation. To confirm the effect of ARW on DSS-induced acute inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) mouse model, we observed the length of total large intestine and the histopathological changes after supplying mineral induced-ARW (MARW) for 2 weeks and oral administration of 4% DSS (dextran sulfate sodium). As the result, the length of total large intestine and the disease scores by macro and microscopical access in the ARWsupplied group showed no significant differences compared with those in the control group. This result suggests that the supply of ARW for 2 weeks exerted no effect on amelioration in the DSS-induced acute IBD model. However, in consideration of the effect of ARW on the improvement of intestinal environment and gastrointestinal disease, this result seems that acute IBD animal model is not suitable or the period of ARW supply is not enough to prove the effect of ARW. The ameliorative effect of ARW on the intestinal abnormal fermentation has been confirmed by some researchers, but the precise mechanism also remain unclear. In conclusion, although MARW had no effect on the DSS-induced acute experimental colitis model, further studies on the verification of the effects of ARW by using other intestinal disease model and by long-term supply of ARW will be required. Also, It needs to clear the mechanism of ARW on the intestinal environment.
In order to identify an unknown wood sample native to Korea. the softwood databases(KSWCHUN; Korean SoftWood CHUN) and the hardwood databases(KHWCHUN; Korean HardWood CHUN) had been built. and the new computer searching programs(IDINEX; IDentification INformation EXpress) has been written in Turbo Pascal(V.5.0) and in Macro Assembly(V.5.0). The characters of the data were based on the 74 features of softwood and on the 148 features of hardwood which are a part of new "IAWA list of microscopic features for hardwood identification" published in 1989. For the purpose of this investigation the wood anatomical nature of 25 species of softwood(13 genera of 5 families) and of 112 species of hardwood(57 genera of 31 families) were observed under a scanning electron microscope and light microscope. and a lot of literature used. The IDINEX programs are based on edge-punched card keys. with several improvements. The maximum number of features in the IDINEX is 229. but that is fixed for a given database. Large numbers of taxa are handled efficiently and new taxa easily added. A search may be based on sequence numbers of features. Comparisons are made sequentially by feature and taxon using the entire suite of features specified to produce the list of possible matching taxa. The results are followings. (1) The databases of Korean wood and the searching programs(IDINEX) had been built. (2) The databases of Korean wood could be an information to search an unknown wood. (3) The databases would be valuable. for the new features, which were not mentioned in Korean wood up to the present. were observed in details. (4) The ultrastructures of the cell walls(warty layer) and crystals observed under a scanning electron microscope will be helpful to search an unknown wood in particular. (5) The searching process is more quick and accurate than the others. 6) We can obtain the information on the differences of a species from the other and search an unknown wood using probability. in IDINEX, (7) The IDINEX will be utilized to identify and classify an animal life, vegetable world, mineral kingdom, and so on.

Over the past 20 years there has been a revolution involving the use of nano or macro size particles as drainage and retention systems during the manufacture of paper. More recently a group of patented technologies called Synthetic Mineral Microparticles (SMM) has been invented and developed. This system has potential to further promote the drainage of water and retention of fine particles during papermaking. Prior research, as well as our on preliminary research showed that the SMM system has advantages in both of drainage and retention compared with montmorillonite (bentonite), which one of the most popular materials presently used in this kind of application. In spite of the demonstrated advantages of this SMM system, the properties and activity of SMM particles in the aqueous state have not been elucidated yet. Streaming current titrations with highly charged polyelectrolytes were used to measure the charge properties of SMM and to understand the interactions among SMM particles, fibers, fiber fines, and cationic polyacrylamide (cPAM) as a retention aid. It was found that pH profoundly affects the charge properties of SMM, due to the influence of Al-ions and the Si-containing particle surface. SEM pictures, characterizing the morphology, geometry and size distribution of SMM, showed an broad distribution of primary particle size. Dilution of SMM mixturee appeared to wash out particles smaller than 100 nm from the surface of larger particles, which themselves appeared to be composed of fused primary particles. DSC thermoporometry was used to measure the size distribution of nanopores within SMM particles.

The experiments were conducted to study the influence of growth location and cutting microelements macro-and on managements in temperate grasses in Korea and West Germany from 1975 to 1979. The field trials were designed as split plot with three grass species of Dactylis glomerata L., Lolium perenne L. and Festuca pratensis Huds under three cutting regimes at grazing stage, silage stage and hay stage. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Concentrations of macro-and microelements in temperate grasses showed a different response to growth location and growing season. P concentration in the plants was decreased under hot stress in summer, whereas Mg and Na tended to be increased. The seasonal changes in K and Zn were not significant. 2. Morphological growth stage was to be found as an important factors influenced to mineral components. P and K contents in temperate grasses tended to be decreased as morphological development especially under high temperature in Suweon and Cheju. Ca and Mg were less affected by morphological stage and cutting managements. 3. Mean value of Ca/P ratio in the plants were 1.58, 1.33 and 1.21 for meadow fescue, perennial ryegrass and orchardgrass, respectively. Ca/P ratio in grasses tended to be increased as morphological development. 4. Zn deficiency in the plants occured in all grass species and experimental sites. Mean Zn concentration of the plant were 34.2%, 31.2% and 37.8% for Suweon, Cheju and Taekwalyong, respectivelly. Na deficiency occured in orchardgrass and meadow fescue, especially in taekwalyong. Cool temperature resulted in a decrease of Na absorption and accumulation.

The study was compared for soil chemical and microbial properties as well as growth of the cherry tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum var. cerasiforme) plants environmentally friendly gown for 3 years and 5 years, which had been fertigated with homemade liquid fertilizer (LF) with indigenous microorganism as an additional fertilizer. Treatment included LF with indigenous microorganism for 3 years (3-year IM-LF) and for 5 years (5-year IM-LF), with an effective microorganism for 10 years (EM-LF), which had been applied with 1,000 times of dilution in the farmhouse. IM-LF and EM-LF materials had increased pH pattern for 16 weeks, in particular for increase of 1.2 for EM-LF. IM-LF material contained slightly higher EC but similar level of 0.2 dS/m to EM-LF. For a pot experiment in the greenhouse, IM-LF treatment increased root dry weight of the cherry tomato plants. In the farmhouse experiment, IM-LF treatment increased to 7.5 of soil pH and 8.4 dS/m of EC, indicating high salt accumulation. EM-LF treatment increased to 62 g/kg of soil OM, which would have affected concentrations of macro essential nutrients, including T-N in the soil. However, the optimum soil chemical levels for growth of cherry tomato plants were observed on the IM-LF plots. EM-LF treatment increased number of bacteria and actinobacteria in the soil. EM-LF treatment increased concentrations of macro essential nutrients in the plants, except for P, with similar nutrient concentrations observed between 3-year IM-LF and 5-year IM-LF-treated plants. Leaf SPAD and PS II levels decreased in the plants treated with 3-year IM-LF. EM-LF treatment increased leaf width and length, number of leaves, canopy area, plant height, and stem diameter in the mid-term stage of growth, which were not significantly different between the treatments. EM-LF treated-plants had two times higher leaf dry weight than those of values observed on the IM-LF plants, which was the opposite result observed on the number of fruit.
