The pupose of this study is the development of CAM system which can cut any shape by CNC lathe.. The overall goal of the CAM system is to achieve the CNC lathe machining, form roughing through to final measuring. The hardware of the system comprises PC and CNC lathe. There are three steps in the CNC lathe machining, (1) geometric modeling by the shape patterns, (2) NC commands generation by the tool path compensated for tool nose radius,(3) machining and workpiece measuring on the lathe. It is developed a software package, with which can conduct a micro CAM system in the PC without economical burden.

This paper describes the wire EDM (Electric Discharge Machining) CAM system considering a variable taper wire-cut and an unmanned wire EDM during the night. Wire EDM is applicable to all materials that are fairly good electrical conductors, including metals, alloys and most carbide. Thus it provides a relatively simple method for making holes of any desired cross section in materials that are too hard or brittle to be machined by most other methods. In this paper we classify variable taper wire-cut machining patterns and variable taper wire-cut geometries. Also we determine unmanned wire EDM patterns fur the productivity of wire EDM industry. Developed system consists of two modules: 1) Variable taper wire EDM module guarantees the length ratio machining function, the parametric ratio machining function and the marking function. 2) Unmanned wire EDM module guarantees the automatic wire EDM during the night. The proposed system has been tested in the fields and found to be a useful system.
The determination of the optimal machining parameters in metal cutting, such as cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, is an important aspect in an economic manufacturing process. The main objective in general is either to minimize the production cost or to maximize the production rate. Also there are constraints on all the machining operations which put restrictions on the choice of the machining parameters. In this paper as an objective function the production cost is considered with two constraints, surface finish and cutting power. Genetic Algorithm is applied to determine the optimum machining parameters, and the effectiveness of the applied algorithm is demonstrated by means of an example, turning operation.

This study presents a single machine scheduling algorithm to minimize total cost(lateness cost, earliness cost and failure cost) by controlling machining speed. Generally, production scheduling uses the information of process planning and machining speed is not changed at production scheduling. And failure cost is not consider for scheduling algorithm. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to consider the change of machining speed for efficient production scheduling. And performance criteria for algorithm considers total cost. Especially, failure cost of product by increasing machining speed is considered.

For geometric accuracy in the net shape machining, the problem of tool deflection should be resolved in some fashion. In particular, this is crucial in finish cut operation where slim tools are used. The purpose of this paper is to verify the validity and effectiveness of the prediction model of the machined surface. Experimental results are presented for the cut of steel material with HSS endmill of diameter 6mm on machining center. The results shows that 1) the machining error due totool deflection is serious even in the low cutting load, 2) by using the mechanistic simulation model with experimental coefficients, the machining error was predicted with maximum prediction error of 10% which was significantly reduced to the desired level by the path modification method.

An experimental modeling of cutting and structural dynamics and the on-line detection of malfunction process is substantial not only for the investigation of the static and dynamic characteristics of cutting process but also for the analytic realization of diagnostic systems. In this regard, We have discussed on the comparative assessment of two recursive time series modeling algorithms that can represent the machining process and detect the abnormal machining behaviors in precision round shape machining such as turning, drilling and boring in mold and die making. In this study, simulation and experimental work were performed to show the malfunctioned behaviors. For this purpose, two new recursive approach (REIVM, RLSM) were adopted fur the on-line system identification and monitoring of a machining process, we can apply these new algorithm in real process for the detection of abnormal machining behaviors such as chipping, chatter, wear and round shape lobe waviness.

For generating NC machining data automatically, it is important to handle computer models such as geometric shape data including engineering specifications for the mechanical part to be manufactured. We proposed unique CAM system for a personal computer that can define the geometric shape in an ease manner and machine the sculptured surfaces of a mold cavity. In this paper, the theoretical basis of generation of high precision machining data for a mold cavity is obtained. The first is geometric modelling, and the second is high precision machining with an optimized tool path algorithm satisfying given tolerance limits. Especially, the bicubic Bezier basis function is adopted for a geometric modelling.

In general, a lot of small electrode is needed for making precision injection molds, such as cell phone mold and precision connector mold, because of the limitations of NC milling process. Those small electrodes usually have very simple shapes and the actual cutting time is so short, but many NC programs and set-up process, a very complicated and time consuming Job, are needed for each electrode. This paper deals the method for increasing the productivity of machining electrodes. In this work, the process standardization of machining electrode was done and special jig fer machining small electrodes was developed. Automatic tool path optimization software was also developed to minimize tool changing time. In addition, in-line cutting tool measuring system was adopted. The productivity of machining for small electrode has been increased up to $100\%$.

The rapid wear rate of cutting tools due to high cutting temperature is a critical problem to be solved in machining of hardened steel. Application of cutting fluid influences the performance of machining because of its lubrication and cooling actions. But, the environmental concerns call for the reduced use of cutting fluids in machining operations. Near-dry machining such as minimum quantity lubrication is regarded as one of the solutions to this difficulty. In the present work, cutting fluid was applied as a high velocity jet at the machining zone continuously at an extreme low rate using a fluid application system developed namely Electro Static Lubrication (ESL) during drilling of hardened steel. The performance of ESL has been compared with that of dry and MQL (minimum quantity lubrication) machining.

A machining center is a complex dynamic system whose behavior influences the machining stability and machined surface quality. This paper focused on establishment of a measurement system and experimental study on static, dynamic, and modal analysis of a machining center. The dynamic stiffness result by the analysis showed the weak part of the machining center. The results provided structure modification data for getting better dynamic behaviors.
