  • In this paper, a Japanese morphological analyzer for Japanese to Korean Machine Translation System is designed. The analyzer reconstructs the Japanese input sentence into word phrases that include grammatical and dictionary informations. Thus we propose the algorithm to separate morphemes and then connect them by reference to a corresponding Korean word phrases. And we define the connector to control Japanese word phrases It is used in controlling the start and the end point of the word phrase in the Japanese sentence which is without a space. The proposed analyzer uses the analysis dictionary to perform more efficient analysis than the existing analyzer. And we can decrease the number of its dictionary searches. Since the analyzer, proposed in this paper, for Japanese to Korean Machine Translation System processes each word phrase in consideration of the corresponding Korean word phrase, it can generate more accurate Korean expressions than the existing one which places great importance on the generation of the entire sentence structure.

  • According to the development of industrial equipment such as semiconductor manufacturing machines, optical device, and precision machine tool, a high-precision translation system with wide range has been required. This paper describes a high-precision 2-axis translation system, which consists of microstage and global stage. In order to achieve the highresolution in the long range, some engineering techniques are used. Three linear guides with flexible coupling are adopted to reduce the motor vibration in the global stage. A simple elastic hinge structure activated by five PZT is applied to reduce the angular dev~atlon. As the result of combination of microstage and global stage associated with some engineering techniques, the 2-axis translation system can measure the 200 X 200 mrn range with the nanometer accuracy.

  • Software safety for nuclear reactor protection systems (RPSs) is the most important requirement for the obtainment of permission for operation and export from government authorities, which is why it should be managed with well-experienced software development processes. The RPS software is typically modeled with function block diagrams (FBDs) in the design phase, and then mechanically translated into C programs in the implementation phase, which is finally compiled into executable machine codes and loaded on RPS hardware - PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). Whereas C Compilers are fully-verified COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) software, translators from FBDs to C programs are provided by PLC vendors. Long-term experience, experiments and simulations have validated their correctness and function safety. This paper proposes a behavior-preserving translation from FBD design to C implementation for RPS software. It includes two sets of translation algorithms and rules as well as a prototype translator. We used an example of RPS software in a Korean nuclear power plant to demonstrate the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed translation.

  • We propose a method to improve search time and space complexity in statistical machine translation architectures, by employing linguistic bracketing information on the source language sentence. It is one of the advantages of the probabilistic formulation that competing translations may be compared and ranked by a. principled measure, but at the same time, optimizing likelihoods over the translation spa.ce dictates heavy search costs. To make statistical architectures practical, heuristics to reduce search computation must be incorporated. An experiment applying our method to a prototype Chinese-English translation system demonstrates substantial improvement.

  • The translation system is made up of springs, masses and a dashpot. This precise piece of equipment is controlled electro-mechanically by a motor and operating program. The control strategy of the system can be changed by spring stiffness, change of mass, and the damping coefficient of the dashpot. This system proves the necessity and effect of a closed loop control. In this paper, PD control experiments were implemented for the translation system. When the north falter was added on the PD controller, we compared the response characteristics of the two systems. The state feedback controller minimized scalar control gains and the resulting response characteristics of the system were studied using the LQR design. Finally, we improved the response characteristics of the translation system which are rising time, settling time, steady state error, and overshoot LQR was better as compared with PD control.

  • Target word selection is one of the most important and difficult tasks in English-Korean Machine Translation. It effects on the translation accuracy of machine translation systems. In this paper, we present a new approach to select Korean target word for an English noun with translation ambiguities using multiple knowledge such as verb frame patterns, sense vectors based on collocations, statistical Korean local context information and co-occurring POS information. Verb frame patterns constructed with dictionary and corpus play an important role in resolving the sparseness problem of collocation data. Sense vectors are a set of collocation data when an English word having target selection ambiguities is to be translated to specific Korean target word. Statistical Korean local context Information is an N-gram information generated using Korean corpus. The co-occurring POS information is a statistically significant POS clue which appears with ambiguous word. The experiment showed promising results for diverse sentences from web documents.

  • In this paper, we present a speech translation system for hotel reservation, KT_STS(Korea Telecom Speech Translation System). KT-STS is a speech-to-speech translation system which translates a spoken utterance in Korean into one in Japanese. The system has been designed around the task of hotel reservation(dialogues between a Korean customer and a hotel reservation de나 in Japan). It consists of a Korean speech recognition system, a Korean-to-Japanese machine translation system and a korean speech synthesis system. The Korean speech recognition system is an HMM(Hidden Markov model)-based speaker-independent, continuous speech recognizer which can recognize about 300 word vocabularies. Bigram language model is used as a forward language model and dependency grammar is used for a backward language model. For machine translation, we use dependency grammar and direct transfer method. And Korean speech synthesizer uses the demiphones as a synthesis unit and the method of periodic waveform analysis and reallocation. KT-STS runs in nearly real time on the SPARC20 workstation with one TMS320C30 DSP board. We have achieved the word recognition rate of 94. 68% and the sentence recognition rate of 82.42% after the speech recognition tests. On Korean-to-Japanese translation tests, we achieved translation success rate of 100%. We had an international joint experiment in which our system was connected with another system developed by KDD in Japan using the leased line.

  • Despite the rise of studies in spoken to sign language translation, low-resource problems of sign language corpus have been rarely addressed. As a first step towards translating from spoken to sign language, we addressed the problems arising from resource scarcity when translating spoken language to manual signals translation using statistical machine translation techniques. More specifically, we proposed three preprocessing methods: 1) paraphrase generation, which increases the size of the corpora, 2) lemmatization, which increases the frequency of each word in the corpora and the translatability of new input words in spoken language, and 3) elimination of function words that are not glossed into manual signals, which match the corresponding constituents of the bilingual sentence pairs. In our experiments, we used different types of English-American sign language parallel corpora. The experimental results showed that the system with each method and the combination of the methods improved the quality of manual signals translation, regardless of the type of the corpora.

  • A new method for the determination of camera system rotation and translation from in 3-D space using recursive least square method is presented in this paper. With this method, the calculation of the equation is found by a linear algorithm. Where the equation are either given or be obtained by solving five or more point correspondences. Good results can be obtained in the presence if more than the eight point. A main advantage of this new method is that it decouple rotation and translation, and then reduces computation. With respect to error in the solution point number in the input image data, adding one more feature correspondence to required minimum number improves the solution accuracy drastically. However, further increase in the number of feature correspondence improve the solution accuracy only slowly. The algorithm proposed by this paper is used to make camera system rotation and translation easy to recognize even when camera system attached at end effecter of six degrees of freedom industrial robot manipulator are applied industrial field.
