  • This research explains a simulation method of cable crosstalk using Microwave Studio(MWS), Matlab and analyzes the crosstalk of Twisted Wire Pairs(TWP) applied to the aerospace or the military. TWP have a periodic configuration of long twisted wires along a axis. It is impossible to conduct the simulation of TWP due to the increased meshs according to the long length configuration. Transmission matrix(T-matrix) cascading method which is suitable to analyze the periodic configuration has been adopted to get the crosstalk of total cable so that the total simulation time has been decreased. In this paper, the crosstalk analysis of TWP including the connector modeled to straight sections has been performed.

  • The propagation characteristics in parallel plate waveguide with dielectric layer having periodic metal strip pattern are investigated. PIN diode ON/OFF states are regarded as the short and open circuit, respectively, in the simulation using CST's MWS. The $11.25^{\circ}$, $22.5^{\circ}$, and $45^{\circ}$ layers which can be used for X-band 4-bit Radant lens phase shifter, are designed. The simulated results for each dielectric layer are $11.28^{\circ}$, $23.2^{\circ}$, and $46.22^{\circ}$, respectively. Also, the equivalent circuit of each layer at the operating band is realized and simulated using Agilent's ADS. The ADS simulated results are compared with the MWS simulated ones. Measured differential phase shills at the center frequency are $9.6^{\circ}$, $22.4^{\circ}$, and $43^{\circ}$, respectively.

  • This paper describes the equivalent circuit of $45^{\circ}$ layer, one of $11.25^{\circ}$, $22.5^{\circ}$, and $45^{\circ}$ phase shift layers, which are needed for X-band Radant lens 4-bit phase shifter. The equivalent circuit is extracted by comparing the CST's MWS results with the Agilent's ADS results for $45^{\circ}$ phase shift layer. The simulated result is compared with the measured one. Using the extracted equivalent circuit, the phase bit simulation results of 4-bit Radant lens are also presented.

  • In this paper, a rectangular loop array antenna for beam scanning is designed. A program using RWG MoM(Rao Wilton Glisson Method of Moment) is developed for SEP(Scan Element Pattern) theoretically. Simulation results obtained by using a commercial software tool, MWS are compared with the MoM results to confirm the validity of the program. Also these results are compared with the measured ones for the case of an $8{\times}5$ subarray. The fabricated $8{\times}5$ subarray showed a flat gain characteristic in the elevation scan range of ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ in the E-plane.

  • In this paper, the scan characteristics of phased array antenna consisted of rectangular open-ended waveguide with a triangular grid are investigated. An infinite array structure is analyzed by numerically solving the integral equation for the electric field over the waveguide aperture using waveguide mode function and Floquet mode function. Next, SEP(Scan Element Pattern) and SI(Scan Impedance) characteristics are simulated by CST's MWS(Microwave Studio) and Ansoft's HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator) for the finite and infinite array structures. Also, validity of these approaches is verified by comparing the calculated and simulated results with the measured ones for an $8{\times}8$ subarray. Within 10.5 % fractional bandwidth in the X-band, the fabricated subarray showed the flat gain characteristic in the scan range of ${\pm}45^{\circ}C$ in the E-plane(azimuth) and ${\pm}20^{\circ}C$ in the H-plane(elevation), and also showed the return loss characteristic of less than -10 dB.

  • This paper presents a single and 2-patch microstrip array antenna operated on a frequency of 10.3GHz(x-band). It outlines the process of designing a microstrip patch array antenna using CST MWS. Initially, a single microstrip antenna was designed, followed by optimization using CST MWS to attain optimal return losses and gain. Subsequently, the design was expanded to create a 2×1 microstrip inset-fed array antenna for the X-band applications. The construction material is Roger RO4350B, with specific dimensions (h=0.79mm, 𝜖r = 3.54). The achieved results include an S11 of -18dB at the resonant frequency (10.3GHz), a gain of 9.82dBi, a bandwidth of 0.165GHz, and a 3-dB beamwidth of 30°, 121° in Az(𝜑=0) and El(𝜑=90) plane, respectively. The future plan involves the fabrication of this array antenna and further expansion to a 4×4 array of microstrip antennas. It is then incorporated on the X-band applications for practical uses.

The presented transmitting and receiving patch antennas are designed with $1{\times}2$ array. The antennas are simulated using CST MWS and manufactured using RO-4003(h=0.5mm, ${\epsilon}r=3.38$). The antennas are installed on the backside of the sensor circuit and measured. The estimated gain and beamwidth are 8.5dBi and about $50^{\circ}$ respectively. The measured bandwidth is about 1GHz($VSWR{\le}2$) which satisfies the desired specification.
