One of the main concerns of civil engineering researchers is developing or modifying an energy dissipation system that can effectively control structural vibrations, and keep the structural response within tolerable limits during unpredictable events like earthquakes, wind and any kind of thrust load. This article proposes a new type of mass damper system for controlling wideband earthquake vibrations, called Multiple Wall Dampers (MWD). The basic principle of the Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) was used to design the proposed wall damper system. This passive energy dissipation system does not require additional mass for the damping system because the boundary wall mass of the building was used as a damper mass. The multi-mode approach was applied to determine the location and design parameters of the dampers. The dampers were installed based on the maximum amplitude of modes. To optimize the damper parameters, the multi-objective optimization Response Surface Methodology was used, with frequency response and maximum displacement as the objective functions. The obtained structural responses under different earthquake forces demonstrated that the MWD is one of the most capable tools for reducing the responses of multi-storied buildings, and this system can be practically used for new and existing building structures.
Destructive examination of 14$\times$14 PWR fuel burned for 3 cycles are carried out to investigate the in-reactor fuel performance. The results obtained are as follows; 1) Grain growth is not occured at the fuel center. 2) Fuel density is decreased as the turnup increase, the density is down to 94.4% TD at burnup of 36,000 MWD/MTU. 3) Average thickness of oxide layer on cladding is less than 10 $\mu$m in the lower and middle section, while it is rapidly increased above 20 $\mu$m in the upper section. 4) The rate of hydride production in the cladding is large in the upper section than lower section and is related to the production of oxide on the cladding

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and test an explanatory model of dyspnea in patients with chronic lung disease (CLD). Methods: Participants were 181 patients with CLD, recruited from the outpatient pulmonary clinic of one university hospital in Korea. Data were collected using questionnaires, as well as measurement of 6-minute walking distance (6MWD), oxygen saturation ($SpO_2$), FEV1% predicted, and Body Mass Index (BMI). Results: The results indicated a good fit between the proposed dyspnea model and the collected data [$x^2$=91.27, p= .13, $x^2$/d.f.=1.17, Normal Fit Index= .934]. Oxygenation ($SpO_2$, = -.530), self-efficacy (= -.429), anxiety (= .253), depression (= .224), exercise endurance (6MWD, = -.211), and pulmonary function (FEV1% predicted, = -.178) had a direct effect on dyspnea (all p< .05) and these variables explained 74% of variance in dyspnea. BMI, smoking history, and social support had an indirect effect on dyspnea. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that comprehensive nursing interventions should focus on recovery of respiratory health and improvement of emotions, exercise ability, and nutritional status. From this perspective, pulmonary rehabilitation would be an effective strategy for managing dyspnea in patients with CLD.
According to kinetic mechanisms, liquid phase polymerization and solid phase polymerization are different in acrylonitrile (AN) polymerization, and so the relationship between the contribution ratio and molecular weight distribution (MWD) was obtained through theoretic analysis. The precipitation homopolymerization of AN was carried out in a mixture solution of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and water at $50{\sim}65^{\circ}C$ using ${\alpha}$,${\alpha}^{\prime}$-azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator. The contribution ratio decreased and approached 0; the MWD also decreased and approached 2 with the increase of the $H_2O$/DMSO ratio from 10/90 to 90/10. The experimental data were found to coincide well with the theoretical equation derived from the mechanisms.

We have investigated the relation between the molecular weight distribution (MWD) of diffusible species and the recovery rate of hydrophobicity of room-temperature vulcanizing (RTV) silicone rubber (SIR) using solvent extraction at various temperatures. It was observed that the extract had a MWD ranging from a few hundreds g/mol to hundreds of thousands g/mol. By measuring the migration of siloxane to the extracted SIR surface through a thin carbon coating, the aspect of migration of diffusible species was observed as a real time plot, and the time constant of the migration was also calculated. According to the time dependence of IR-absorbance, the time constant was increased with the increase of MW of the extracts.
A Shielding analysis of the shipping cask designed conceptually, of which shielding material are lead and resin, for containing 4 PWR spent fuel assemblies, has been made with the help of a computer code, ANISN. The shielding materials being used in the cask have been selected and arranged to minimize cask weight while maintaining an overall shielding effectiveness. Radiation source terms have been calculated by means of ORIGIN-2 code under the assumptions of 38,000 MWD/MTU burnup and 3-year cooling time. A calculation of gamma-ray and neutron dose rates on the cask surface and 1m from the surface has been done. It is revealed that the total dose rates under the normal transport and hypothetical accident conditions meet the standards specified.

Hull arising from the spent PWR fuel elements is classified as a high-level radioactive waste. This report describes the radio-chemical characteristics of the hull -from PWR spent fuel of 32, 000MWd/tU burn-up and 15 years cooling, discharged from Gori Unit I cycled 4 -7-by examination and literature survey. On the basis of the results, a method of degradation to middle and low-level radio active waste was proposed by dry process such as laser or plasma technique with removing the nuclides deposited on the surface of the hull.
Using glycidyl methacrylate-linked poly(dimethylsiloxane), methyl methacrylate was polymerized in supercritical $CO_2$. The effects of $CO_2$ pressure, reaction time, and mixing on the yield, molecular weight, and molecular weight distribution (MWD) of the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) products were investigated. The shape, number average particle diameter, and particle size distribution (PSD) of the PMMA were characterized. Between 69 and 483 bar, the yield and molar mass of the PMMA products showed a trend of increasing with increasing $CO_2$ pressure. However, the yield leveled off at around 345 bar and the particle diameter of the PMMA increased until the pressure reached 345 bar and decreased thereafter. With increasing pressure, MWD became more uniform while PSD was unaffected. As the reaction time was extended at 207 bar, the particle diameter of PMMA decreased at $0.48{\pm}0.03%$ AIBN, but increased at 0.25% AIBN. Mixing the reactant mixture increased the PMMA yield by 18.6% and 9.3% at 138 and 207 bar, respectively.
In this study, we investigated coagulants such as polyaluminum chloride (PACl) and ferric chloride ($FeCl_3$) and the combination of a coagulant and powdered activated carbon (PAC) for the removal of dissolved organic matter (DOM) from fish processing effluent to reduce membrane fouling in microfiltration. The efficiency of each pretreatment was investigated through analyses of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and ultraviolet absorbance at 254 nm ($UVA_{254}$). Membrane flux and silt density index (SDI) analyses were performed to evaluate membrane fouling; molecular weight distributions (MWD) and fluorescence excitation-emission matrix (FEEM) spectroscopy were analyzed to assess DOM characteristics. The results demonstrated that $FeCl_3$ exhibited higher DOC and $UVA_{254}$ removals than PACl for food processing effluent and a combination of $FeCl_3$ and PAC provided comparatively better results than simple $FeCl_3$ coagulation for the removal of DOM from fish processing effluent. This study suggests that membrane fouling could be minimized by proper pretreatment of food processing effluent using a combination of coagulation ($FeCl_3$) and adsorption (PAC). Analyses of MWD and FEEM revealed that the combination of $FeCl_3$ and PAC was more efficient at removing hydrophobic and small-sized DOM.
MCM-41 (Mobil Composition of Matter) and SBA-15 (Santa Barbara Amorphous) were used as a supported catalyst for ethylene polymerization due to their combination of large surface area and wide range of pore size distribution. The morphology of supports was used to control the morphology of the resulting polymer. Different molar ratios of Al/Ti were used for ethylene polymerization at $60^{\circ}C$ under atmospheric pressure. The effect of different mass ratios of MCM-41/SBA-15 and 1-hexene concentration on polymerization activity and polymer properties was investigated. The catalytic activity and the crystallinity reached the highest value at Al/Ti of 480. Upon incorporation of MCM-41 and SBA-15 into $MgCl_2/TiCl_4$ catalyst, the molecular weight and crystallinity of polyethylene were enhanced. The obtained polyethylene showed melting temperature between 130 and $135^{\circ}C$. The polyethylene with replication structure of support and bimodal MWD was expected.
