Multi-functional USN Gateway (MUG) is a multipurpose system combining a mesh router and a sensor gateway. The paper presents the design and implementation of the MUG system and the test-bed to verify the MUG system. MUG combines IEEE 802.11n based Wi-Fi mesh router functions and USN gateway functions. MUG supports IP sensor networks based on 6LoWPAN and non IP sensor networks based on ZigBee. MUG also provides various backhaul network interfaces including WiBro, HSDPA, and Ethernet Interfaces. We verify the feasibility of the MUG system through implementation and evaluate the performance by installing and testing several MUG systems in the test-bed.
MUG1 is a MULE transposon-related domesticated gene in plants. We assessed the sequence diversity, neutrality, expression, and phylogenetics of the MUG1 gene among Oryza ssp. We found MUG1 expression in all tissues analyzed, with different levels in O. sativa. There were 408 variation sites in the 3886 bp of MUG1 locus. The nucleotide diversity of the MUG1 was higher than functionally known genes in rice. The nucleotide diversity (${\pi}$) in the domains was lower than the average nucleotide diversity in whole coding region. The ${\pi}$ values in nonsynonymous sites were lower than those of synonymous sites. Tajima D and Fu and Li $D^*$ values were mostly negative values, suggesting purifying selection in MUG1 sequences of Oryza ssp. Genome-specific variation and phylogenetic analyses show a general grouping of MUG1 sequences congruent with Oryza ssp. biogeography; however, our MUG1 phylogenetic results, in combination with separate B and D genome studies, might suggest an early divergence of the Oryza ssp. by continental drift of Gondwanaland. O. long-istaminata MUG1 divergence from other AA diploids suggests that it might not be a direct ancestor of the African rice species.
The antimite activities of cumin seed oil-derived cuminaldehyde and eleven commercial components of Cuminum cyminum oil were examined against Dermatophagoides farinae and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus adults and compared with those of benzyl benzoate and N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide. Responses varied according to dose and mite species. On the basis of $LD_{50}$ values, the compound most toxic to D. farinae adults was cuminaldehyde ($2.40\mug/cm^2$) followed by benzyl benzoate ($9.32\mug/cm^2$), thymol ($9.43\mug/cm^2$), DEET ($36.84\mug/cm^2$), and 3-carene ($42.11\mug/cm^2$). Against D. pteronyssinus adults, cuminaldehyde ($1.94\mug/cm^2$) was much more effective than benzyl benzoate ($6.50\mug/cm^2$) thymol ($6.92\mug/cm^2$), DEET ($17.79\mug/cm^2$), and 3-carene ($39.85\mug/cm^2$). These results indicate that the antimite activity of cumin seed oil could be caused by cuminaldehyde. Cuminaldehyde was about 3.9 and 3.4 times more toxic than benzyl benzoate against D. farinae and D. pteronyssinus adults, respectively. Therefore, further study is needed to confirm the findings of this study and the possibility of cuminaldehyde as a house dust mite control agent or a lead compound.

The in vitro activity of LB20304 was evaluated against clinical isolates and compared with those of Q-35, ciprofloxacin, sparfloxacin, lomefloxacin and ofloxacin. LB20304 demonstrated 16-to 64-fold more potent activity than ciprofloxacin against gram-positive bacteria. LB20304 inhibited 90% of the isolates of methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus(MSSA) at a concentration of $0.016\mug/ml\; (MIC_{90}). MIC_{90}$ values of LB20304 against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus epidermidis (MSSE), methicillin-resistant S. epidermidis (MRSE) and Streptococcus pneumoniae were $2\mug/ml,\; 0.016\mug/ml,\; 0.5\mug/ml \;and\; 0.031\mug/ml,$ respectively. LB20304 was also very active against gram-negative bacteria. Against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Serratia marcescens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, $MIC_{90}s of\; LB20304 were\; 0.031\mug/ml,\; 0.25\mug/ml,\; 2\mug/ml,\; 8\mug/ml\; and\; 0.5\mug/ml$, respectively. Its activity was comparable to that of ciprofloxacin but much better than those of Q-35, sparfloxacin, ofloxacin and lomefloxacin. LB20304 also exhibited the most potent acitvity among quinolones tested against laboratory standard strains, ofloxacin-resistant strains, .betha.-lactamase-producing strains and anaerobic strains. The inhibitory effect$ (IC_{50)$ of LB20304 on DNA gyrase from Micrococcus luteus, determined by the supercoiling assay, was 8-fold more potent than that of ciprofloxacin. LB20304 did not induce topoisomerase-associated DNA cleavage even at a concentration of 10 mg/ml, although ciprofloxacin induced DNA cleavage at a concentration of 1 mg/ml.
In order to assess the level of atmospheric pollution and to contribute the health improve ment of residents in Pusan, the authors measured the $CO, SO_2, NO_2, TSP, Noise, Pb, Cd, Cr and V$ level at 3 place by time from Jan. 1988 to Feb. 1988. THe places were Kukje, Daehyeon, Pujeon underground commercial floor. The results were as follows; 1. The range of concentration of air pollutants (1) CO : 0.5 - 3.0 ppm (2) $SO_2$ : 0.012 - 0.360 ppm (3) $NO_2$ : 0.018 - 0.089 ppm (4) TSP : 30 - 330 $\mug/m^3$ (5) Pb : 0.219 - 3.116 $\mug/m^3$ (6) Cd : 0.000 - 0.070 $\mug/m^3$ (7) Cr : 0.378 - 4.098 $\mug/m^3$ (8) V : 0.000 - 1.010 $\mug/m^3$ (9) Noise : 47 - 77 dB(A) 2. The level of all air pollutants were higher in the afternoon or night than in the morning. 3. The mean concentration of $SO_2$ in all places exceede the ambient air quality standard of $SO_2$,.
The cyclone/annular denuder system/filter pack sampling system (ADS) was used to collect the acidic air pollutants in Chongju city. The data set was collected on nine different days with 24 hour sampling period from July 27 through August 27, 1995. The chemical species measured were $HNO_3, HNO_2, SO_2 and NH_3$ in the gas phase, and $PM_{2.5}(d_P<2.5 \mum), SO_4^{2-}, NO_3^- and NH_4^+$ in the particulate phase. Mean concentrations measured from this study were: $0.90 \mug/m^3 for HNO_3, 1.27 \mug/m^3 for HNO_2, 10.9 \mug/m^3 for SO_2, 4.82 \mug/m^3 for NH_3, 27.5 \mug/m^3 for PM_{2.5}, 5.24 \mug/m^3 for SO_4^{2-}, 1.22 \mug/m^3 for NO_3^-, and 1.64 \mug/m^3 for NH_4^+$. The fine particle $(PM_{2.5})$ mass measured for the ADS samples was slightly higher than the fine particle mass measured for the corresponding dichotomous sampler. For the wind coming from Chongju industrial complex the concentrations of acidic air pollutants measured were higher when compared with other directions. Specially, $SO_2 and PM_{2.5}$ concentrations for the wind coming from Chongju industrial complex were 3.6 and about 2 times, respectively, higher than those of other wind directions. High correlations were observed between $PM_{2.5} and fine particle's ion components $(r=0.82 with SO_4^{2-}, r=0.76 with NO_3^- and r=0.89 with NH_4^+). NH_4^+ and SO_4^{2-}$ was also highly correlated (r=0.97).
The influence of soil particles on TSP transported from China contient to Seoul by the Yellow sand phenomenon was investigated from the analytical results of TSP during three years, April 1988 through May 1991. The TSP was collected by a high volume air sampler abour five times a month, and then analyzed by A.A.S. and UV-Visible spectrophotometry. During the Yellow sand phenomenon, the mean concentration of TSP at Seoul was about 578 $\mug/m^3$ and three times higher than that in the ordinary time which was about 194 $\mug/m^3$. The mean contribution of soil particles calculated by Al content to TSP was 28% in the ordinary time, but the degree of contribution jumped to about 60% during the Yellow sand phenomena. The concentration of soil particles transported from China continent to Seoul was estimated to be 175.1 $\mug/m^3$ on an average(104 $\mug/m^3-231 \mug/m^3$).
In this study, we determined the content of chitooligosaccharides (COS) in Korean commercial salt-fermented shrimps by competitive direct enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (cdELISAs), using anti-COS mixture (COSM) antibody and COSM horseradish peroxidase (HRP) conjugate. When COS6 was spiked into salt-fermented shrimps at the level of $10-300\mu{g/g,}$ the average recovery was $120\pm19%$ ($mean\pmS.D.$). The COS contents of the 92 samples of Korean commercial salt-fermented shrimps collected during February 2000 and August 2002 were $36.3\pm20.7\mug$ COS6 equivalent/g (expressed as "$\mug/g$" hereafter). Among the samples, the COS contents of yuk-jeot ( $40.3 \pm 22.5 \mug/g, n=27$) and buksaewoojeot ($40.2 \pm 21.6 \mug/g, n=5$) were higher than the others. The COS contents of salt-fermented shrimps produced at Gwangcheon ($47.1 \pm 20.7 \mug/g, n=18$) and Gomso ($44.1 \pm 21.8 \mug/g, n=6$) areas were higher than those produced at the other areas. This is the first report to determine COS of salt-fermented shrimps by cdELISA.
TBTCl(0.1, 0.32, 1, 3.2, 10, 25, 32, 50, 75 및 100 $\mug/l$)을 구피에게 144시간 동안 노출시켜 TBTCl의 구피 생체 내 축적정도 및 구피의 번식과 행동에 미치는 영향에 대해서 조사하였다.
A mycotoxin Patulin, isolated from apple juice medium cultured with Penicillium patulum NRRL5259, was purified through acid aluminum column using ethyl ether as eluent. The yield of purified patulin crystal was 3mg/ml culture medium after 8 days of shaking culture at 28C. The growth rate of Escherichia coli K12JM103 infected with bacteriophage M13 was decreased by patulin at the concentration range of 1Mug/ml to 10Mu/nl. ED50 of patulin for the bacterial growth was 4.5Mug/ml and 10Mug/ml of patulin caused maximum inhibitory effect (60% inhibition) on the growth.
