  • All-ceramic restorations have gained acceptance among clinicians and patients because of their superior esthetics. Most all-ceramic systems have a 2-layer structure, using a weak veneering ceramic over a strong supporting core. often, failure of all-ceramic restorations occurs when the veneering ceramic fractures, exposing the core material. The purpose of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of heat press ceramic system (Zirpress) to zirconia core with various surface treatments. 10 metal cores and 50 zirconia cores were fabricated and divided into six groups according to surface treatment such as Zirliner application, aluminium oxide blasting, and 9.5% HF etching. Sixty specimens were prepared using Zirpress, veneered 8mm height and 3mm in diameter, over the zirconia cores (n=10). The shear bond strength test was performed in a universal testing machine with a crosshead speed of 1/min. Ultimate shear bond strength data were analyzed with One-way ANOVA and the Scheffe's test (p=.05). Within the limits of this study, the following conclusions were drawn: The mean shear bond strengths (MPa) were: 12.93 for $110{\mu}m$ aluminium oxide blasting/Rexillium III/IPS e.Max Zirpress; 14.92 for $50{\mu}m$ aluminium oxide blasting ${\pm}9.5%$ HF etching/Zirconis core/IPS e.Max Zirpress; 16.37 for $110{\mu}$ aluminium oxide blasting + 9.5% HF etching/Zirconis core/IPS e.Max Zirpress; 12.89 for $200{\mu}$ aluminium oxide blasting + 9.5% HF etching/Zirconis core/IPS e.Max Zirpress; 19.30 for 9.5% HF etching/Zirconis core/IPS e.Max Zirpress; 19.55 for Zirliner/Zirconis core/IPS e.Max Zirpress. The mean shear bond strength for ZNTZH (Zirliner/Zirconis core) and ZNTEH (9.5% HF etching/Zirconis core) were significantly superior to MS110H ($110{\mu}$ aluminium oxide blasting/Rexillium III) and ZS200EH ($200{\mu}$ aluminium oxide blasting + 9.5% HF etching/Zirconis core) (p<0.05).

  • Aluminum nanoparticles (Al-NPs) are one of the most widely used nanomaterial in cosmetics and medical materials. For this reason, Al-NP exposure is very likely to occur via inhalation in the environment and the workplace. Nevertheless, little is known about the mechanism of Al-NP neurotoxicity via inhalation exposure. In this study, we investigated the effect AL-NPs on the brain. Rats were exposed to Al-NPs by nasal instillation at 1 mg/kg body weight (low exposure group), 20 mg/kg body weight (moderate exposure group), and 40 mg/kg body weight (high exposure group), for a total of 3 times, with a 24-hr interval after each exposure. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) analysis indicated that the presence of aluminum was increased in a dose-dependent manner in the olfactory bulb (OFB) and the brain. In microarray analysis, the regulation of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) activity (GO: 0043405), including Ptprc, P2rx7, Map2k4, Trib3, Trib1, and Fgd4 was significantly over-expressed in the treated mice than in the controls (p = 0.0027). Moreover, Al-NPs induced the activation of ERK1 and p38 MAPK protein expression in the brain, but did not alter the protein expression of JNK, when compared to the control. These data demonstrate that the nasal exposure of Al-NPs can permeate the brain via the olfactory bulb and modulate the gene and protein expression of MAPK and its activity.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the role of tachykinins (TK) in mediating nonadrenergic noncholinergic (NANC) contractions produced by electrical field stimulation (EFS) in the longitudinal muscle of the rat ileum. In the presence of atropine ($1{\mu}M$), guanethidine ($5{\mu}M$), and L-nitroarginine (L-NNA, $200{\mu}M$), EFS (0.5ms pulse duration, 120 V, 1-20 Hz for 2 min) produced a frequency-dependent slowly-developing tonic contraction with superimposed phasic contractions ('on'-contraction) followed by off slowly-decreasing tonic and superimposed phasic contractions ('off'-contraction) of mucosa-free longitudinal oriented muscle strip. These EFS induced responses were blocked by tetrotoxin. $NK_1$ receptor selective antagonist L-732,138 strongly inhibited the EFS-induced excitatory responses. However $NK_2$ receptor selective antagonist, GR 159897 and $NK_3$ receptor selective antagonist SB 222200 did not significantly inhibited the responses. $NK_1$ receptor selective agonist [$Sar^9$,$Met(O_2)^{11}$] Substance P and $NK_2$ receptor selective agonist [${\beta}-Ala^8$]-neurokinin A (4-10) induced tonic contraction with superimposed phasic contractions of longitudinal oriented muscle strip and almost blocked by selective antagonist L-732,138 and GR 159897, respectively. But $NK_3$ receptor selective agonist senktide did not showed any effect. Nifedipine ($1{\mu}M$) abolished the contraction produced either by EFS or by the TK receptor agonists [$Sar^9$,$Met(O_2)^{11}$] Substance P or [${\beta}-Ala^8$]-neurokinin A (4-10). It is concluded that, in the longitudinal muscle of rat ileum, both $NK_1$ and $NK_2$ receptors modulated the responses to exogenous tachykinins, whereas $NK_1$ is mainly involved in NANC neuromuscular contraction.

  • In this paper, we propose a person tracking based multi-channel audio panning system for multi-view broadcasting services. Multi-view broadcasting is to render the video sequences that are captured from a set of cameras based on different viewpoints, and multi-channel audio panning techniques are necessary for audio rendering in these services. In order to apply such a realistic audio technique to this multi-view broadcasting service, person tracking techniques which are to estimate the position of users are also necessary. For these reasons, proposed methods are composed of two parts. The first part is a person tracking method by using ultrasonic satellites and receiver. We could obtain user's coordinates of high resolution and short duration about 10 mm and 150 ms. The second part is MPEG Surround parameter-based multi-channel audio panning method. It is a method to obtain panned multi-channel audio by controlling the MPEG Surround spatial parameters. A MUSHRA test is conducted to objectively evaluate the perceptual quality and measure localization performance using a dummy head. From the experiments, it is shown that the proposed method provides better perceptual quality and localization performance than the conventional parameter-based audio panning method. In addition, we implement the prototype of person tracking based multi-view broadcasting system by integrating proposed methods with multi-view display system.

  • Conductive SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites were produced by subjecting a 40:60 (vol%) mixture of zirconium diboride (ZrB2) powder and ${\beta}$-silicon carbide (SiC) matrix to spark plasma sintering (SPS). Sintering was carried out for 5 min in an argon atmosphere at a uniaxial pressure and temperature of 50 MPa and $1500^{\circ}C$, respectively. The composite sintered at a heating speed of $25^{\circ}C$/min and an on/off pulse sequence of 12:2 was denoted as SZ12L. Composites SZ12H, SZ48H, and SZ10H were obtained by sintering at a heating speed of $100^{\circ}C$/min and at on/off pulse sequences of 12:2, 48:8, and 10:9, respectively. The physical, electrical, and mechanical properties of the SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites were examined and thermal image analysis of the composites was performed. The apparent porosities of SZ12L, SZ12H, SZ48H, and SZ10H were 13.35%, 0.60%, 12.28%, and 9.75%, respectively. At room temperature, SZ12L had the lowest flexural strength (286.90 MPa), whereas SZ12H had the highest flexural strength (1011.34 MPa). Between room temperature and $500^{\circ}C$, the SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites had a positive temperature coefficient of resistance (PTCR) and linear V-I characteristics. SZ12H had the lowest PTCR and highest electrical resistivity among all the composites. The optimum SPS conditions for the production of energy-friendly SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites are as follows: 1) an argon atmosphere, 2) a constant pressure of 50 MPa throughout the sintering process, 3) an on/off pulse sequence of 12:2 (pulse duration: 2.78 ms), and 4) a final sintering temperature of $1500^{\circ}C$ at a speed of $100^{\circ}C$/min and sintering for 5 min at $1500^{\circ}C$.

  • Aims: Acupuncture has been used for the treatment of essential hypertension, but the efficacy and the mechanism of acupuncture in prevention of hypertension are still unclear. We tested the hypothesis that electroacupuncture (EA) applied to Baekhoe (GV20) changes NO/NOS system during development of hypertension in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR), and thereby causes the delay of development of hypertension in SHR. Methods: The male SHR rats in the developmental stages of hypertension (7-8 weeks) were randomly divided into three groups (control group, GV20 acupuncture group, and tail acupuncture group). And the age matched Wistar Koyto Rats (WKY) were randomly divided into two groups (nagative control, GV20 acupuncture group). EA treatments (10Hz, 1mA, 0.1ms) were carried out for 25 min/day for five consecutive days. The systolic blood pressure (SBP) was determined in conscious rats by the tail-cuff method using automatic BP mornitoring system. We investigated the activations of inducible NO synthase (iNOS) in nuclei of solitary tract (NTS) and rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) of SHR by the western blotting method. Results: The SBP after the termination of EA stimulation applied to the GV20 was stabilized at $169.14{\pm}3.67$ mmHg which is lower value than that of the control group. The SBP of control group was elevated to $178.14{\pm}3.49$ mmHg. In addition, we evaluated NOS activity as well as iNOS protein expression of NTS and RVLM in both of SHR and WKY. The iNOS activity in NTS was significantly higher in SHR than in WKY. Furthermore, the iNOS activity of NTS showed significant decreases in EA groups compare to that of non treated SHR group. Although iNOS expression of RVLM showed non significant changes between SHR and WKY, EA significantly enhanced the iNOS expression in SHR. Our data support the hypothesis that delayed development of hypertension and altered iNOS expression of NTS and RVLM by EA stimulations in SHR rats. Conclusions: The findings demonstrate that acupuncture can change NO/NOS system in NTS and RVLM, and exert beneficial role on development of hypertension.

  • Levans produced from Microbacterium laevaniformans were isolated, characterized, and fractionated by molecular weight. TLC, HPLC, and GC-MS analyses of the exopolysaccharide showed that it was a fructan-type polymer and was composed of (2,6)- and (2,1)-glycosidic linkages. $^{13}C$-NMR analysis proved that the polysaccharide was mainly a $\beta$-(2,6)-linked levan-type polysaccharide. To investigate the cytotoxicity of the acetone-precipitated levan fractions such as M1, M2, and M3, HepG2, P388D1, U937, SNU-1, and SNUC2A cell lines were screened. Among the cell lines tested, the cytotoxicity of M1- M3 fractions were detected from only SNU-1 and HepG2 cells at the dosage level of $100-800\mu\textrm{g}ml$. The M2 fraction M_r$, 80,000) at 400 $mu{g/ml}$ had the greatest cell growth inhibition (84.6%) on SNU-1, while the M1 $(M_r$, 50,000) at $800\mu\textrm{g}ml$ showed the greatest (46.32%) on HepG2. To obtain more uniform M_r$ fractions of levan, the levan was further fractionated from S1 $(M_r$ 1,000,000) to S5 $(M_r$ 10,000) using gel permeation chromatography. Again, the S1-S5 fractions had strong cytotoxicity on SNU-1 and HepG2 cell lines. The greatest inhibition effects of S4 $(M_r$ 80,000) on SNU-1 and S5 $(M_r$ 10,000) on HepG2 were shown to be 49.5% and 73.0%, respectively. The cytotoxicity of the levan fractions was more effective on SNU-1 than on HepG2. Although the relationship between the Mw and the cytotoxicity was not clear, smaller $M_r$, fractions of levan showed greater growth inhibition effect on the cancer cell lines in general. Therefore, it was indicated that a specific Mw class of levan is responsible for the effective cytotoxicity.

  • To stabilize omeprazole(OMP), ethylenediamine(ED) complex of omeprazole(OMPED) was prepared by reaction between OMP and ED in methanol, and the complex formation was confirmed by the instrumental analysis, i.e., IR, DSC, EA, NMR, MS and XRD. The rates of decomposition of OMP and OMPED in aqueous solution and the shelf lives at standard temperature were measured by accelerated stability analysis. The results are summarized as follows; The mole ratio of OMP and ED in OMPED complex is 1:1, the energy of formation within OMPED might be combined between polar imidazole group of OMP with induced a dipole amine group in the readily polarizable ED molecule. At standard temperature the degradation rate constant of OMP in aqueous solution is $2.540{\times}10^{-2}\;hr^{-1}$ and the shelf life is 4.15 hrs, and in the case of OMPED the degradation rate constant is $7.986{\times}10^{-4}\;hr^{-1}$ and the shelf life is 131.96 hrs. So, the OMPED has about 31 times longer shelf life than OMP. The activation energy of OMP and OMPED are 5.23 and 18.55 kcal $mole^{-1}$ respectively. The stability of OMP is dependent chiefly on pH in the solutions and it decomposes readily in acidic medium by hydrogen ion catalized reaction but becomes stable beyond pH 9.0. In case of the ED-complex, OMPED is stable in neutral as well as in dilute acidic solutions even in pH 6, OMPED is very stable to light(UV), that is, the rate constant and shelf life of OMP are $k=1.0188{\times}10^{-2}\;day^{-1}$, $T_{90%}=4.5 \;days$, on the other hand, the those of OMPED are $k=7.138{\times}10^{-4}\;day^{-1}$, $T_{90%}=64.1\;days$, respectively. From the above results, it is thought that new dosage forms could be developed by using the OMPED as a potential OMP complex.

  • Deoxynivalenol (DON) and zearalenone (ZEN) are naturally occurring toxins produced by Fusarium species, which may grow on cereals. The aims of this study were to determine the incidence and contamination levels of DON and ZEN in cereal products. Seventy samples of cereal products were randomly selected from retail outlets during 2005 and 2006. DON and ZEN were analyzed by using high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence and UV-detector, respectively. Detection limits were $4.4{\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$ for DON and $3.4{\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$ for ZEN. DON and ZEN were detected in 37 and 17, respectively, of the 70 samples, but the levels found were very low. In particular, out of 70 samples, 12 samples of corn and barley were co-contaminated with DON and ZEN, with levels ranging from 5.6 to $1842.3{\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$ for DON and 12.1 to $174.9{\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$ for ZEN, respectively. However, DON and ZEN were not detected in breakfast cereals and wheat flour. The highest level was found in dried corn kernel samples that confirmed by LC-MS. This study show that DON and ZEN co-contaminate with low levels in cereal products.
