VMn underlayer for CoCrPt Longitudinal Recording Media

  • In this study, the magnetic properties of CoCrPt films (far longditudinal recording) on a novel VMn underlayer were measured and compared with similar films on conventional Cr underlayers. It was found that the VMn film had (200) preferred orientation and the lattice constant was about 0.2967 nm, which is slightly larger than that of the Cr film, 0.2888 m. The grain size of the VMn film was 9.8 nm at 30 m thickness, about 39% smaller than that of a similarly deposited Cr. The CoCrPt/VMn films showed higher coercivity in comparison with the CoCrPt/Cr films. The coercivity increase is attributed to the increased Co (11.0) texture, improved lattice matching between Co (11.0) and VMn (200), and lower stacking fault density. V or Mn must have diffused into the CoCrPt magnetic layer uniformly rather than preferentially along grain boundaries. This reduced Ms at higher substrate temperature.

  • In this paper, autonomous information exchange methodology is studied between IEDS using SOAP protocol based on XML and PtP communication. Inference-based solution of the IED identifies the faulted zone autonomously from free information exchange among IEDs, transmits the operation information to the above SCADA system, also determines whether it executes or not for commands from the above SCADA. Finally, Inference-based solution is implemented using MS Visual C++ MFC, MS SOAP and MS XML. Availability and accuracy of the design is verified from simulation reviews for typical distribution substation.

Influence of Chemical Activation of Carbon Supports on Electrochemical Behaviors of Pt-Ru Nanoparticle for Fuel cells (연료전지 백금-루테늄 나노입자의 전기화학적 거동에 대한 탄소지지체의 활성화 효과)

  • In this work, graphite nanofibers (GNFs) were prepared for using catalyst supports in fuel cells. The GNFs were chemically activated to obtain high surface area and small pore diameter with different potassium hydroxide (KOH) amounts, i.e., 0, 1, 3, 4, and 5 g as an activating agent. And then Pt-Ru was deposited onto activated GNFs (A-GNFs) by chemical reduction method. The characteristics of Pt-Ru catalysts deposited onto A-GNFs were determined by specific surface area and pore size analyzer, X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and inductive coupled plasma-mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). The electrochemical properties of Pt-Ru/A-GNFs catalysts were also analyzed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiments. From the results, the A-GNFs carbon supports activated with 4 g of KOH (A4g-GNFs) showed that the highest specific surface areas. In addition, the A4g-GNFs led to uniform dispersion of Pt-Ru onto A4g-GNFs, resulting in the enhancement of electrochemical activity of Pt-Ru catalysts.

  • In this paper, accelerated stress test(AST) for Magnetic Switch (MS) are applied to assure specified reliability of the products. Magnetic contactor that functions with over-current relay is called MS. Magnetic contactor closes and opens the motor load with ON/OFF switch of electronic contactor. It is also used for protecting and controlling the load. Magnetic contactor detects the over-current flow in the load with a over-current relay and disconnects the load by opening its control power. In this study, AST for product assembly are developed in order to improve the weak point so that increase the product reliability. Also we will show the basic information for the accelerated life test(ALT). The proposed AST results and procedures may be extended and applied to testing similar kinds of products to reduce test times and costs of the tests remarkably. Finally the results of this study will contribute to improving reliability of products and strengthening competitiveness of our products in the world markets.

  • A combined process of non-thermal plasma and catalytic techniques has been investigated to treat toxic gas compounds in air. The treated gas in the present study is $CH_3$CN that has been known to be a simulant of toxic chemical agent. A planar type dielectric barrier discharge(DBD) reactor has been used to generate non-thermal plasma that produces various chemically active species, O, N, OH, $O_3$, ion, electrons, etc. Several different types of adsorbents and catalysts, which are MS 5A, MS 13X, Pt/alumina, are packed into the plasma reactor, and have been tested to save power consumption and to treat by-products. Various aspects of the present techniques, which are decomposition efficiencies along with the power consumption, by-product analysis, reaction pathways modified by the adsorbents and catalysts, have been discussed in the present study.

  • A combined process of non-thermal plasma and catalytic technique has been investigated to treat $CH_3$CN gas in the atmosphere. A planar type dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor has been used to generate the non-thermal plasma that produces various chemically active species, such as O, N, OH, $O_3$, ion, electrons, etc. Several different types of the beads. which are Molecular Sieve (MS) 5A, MS 13X, Pt/alumina beads, are packed into the DBD reactor, and have been tested to characterize the effects of adsorption and catalytic process on treating the $CH_3$CN gas in the DBD reactor. The test results showed that the operating power consumption and the amounts of the by-products of the non-thermal plasma process can be reduced by the assistance of the adsorption and catalytic process.

Synthesis of Dendrimer Based Polymeric and Macrocyclic Complexes with a Platinum-Acetylide ${\pi}-Conjugated$ Organometallic Core

  • A three-layered poly(benzyl ether) dendrimer having a bis-ethynylbenzene core was synthesized and characterized with $^{1}H$ NMR and MALDI-TOF-MS spectroscopy. The dendrimer was reacted with platinum complexes to obtain platinum-acetylide based organometallic polymers. When the dendrimer was reacted with trans-[$PtCl_{2}(PEt_{3})_{2}$], a high molecular weight polymeric compound was formed, whereas, with cis-[$PtCl_{2}dppp$], a uniform molecular weight compound was formed, which was found to be a dimeric metallacycle by $^{1}H\;NMR,\;^{31}P\;NMR$ and ESI-TOF-MS spectroscopy. Both these complexes exhibited relatively a strong emission around 440 nm, indicating that they could be potential candidates for blue emitting polymer LEDs.

Magnetic contactor that functions with over-current relay is called MS. Magnetic contactor closes and opens the motor load with ON/OFF switch of electronic contactor. It is also used for protecting and controlling the load. Magnetic contactor detects the over-current flow in the load with a over-current relay and disconnects the load by opening its control power. In this study, ALT models for MS are developed using the relationship between stresses and life characteristics of products. Using the ALT models, we performed life tests and analyzed the tests results. The proposed ALT models and procedures may be extended and applied to testing similar kinds of products to reduce test times and costs of the tests remarkably. Finally the results of this study will contribute to improving reliability of products and strengthening competitiveness of our products in world markets.

Distribution Characteristics of Platinum Group Elements in Roadside Dust from Daejeon, Korea (대전 도로변 먼지내 Platinum Group Elements의 분포 특성)

  • In this research, the distribution of Platinum Group Elements (PGEs) at roadside dust in Daejeon, Korea was examined using an ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry) technique. For the quality assurance of the determination, method validation based on its accuracy and precision was conducted using SRM (Standard Reference Material). It was found that the relative errors of Pt, Pd, and Rh against each SRM value were -0.7%, -10.0%, and -20.4%, respectively, while relative standard deviations for three elements were less than 10%. The concentrations of Pt, Pd and Rh in roadside dust averaged as $17.4{\pm}9.2{\mu}g/kg$, $283.6{\pm}20.5{\mu}g/kg$, and $7.3{\pm}2.8{\mu}g/kg$, respectively. The concentrations of Pt and Rh have significantly higher distribution patterns in the dust at roadside and underground parking lot than those in soil of the background or other urban area. The correlation analysis between concentrations of PGEs in roadside dust indicates that the distribution of Pt and Rh concentration were strongly affected by automobile sources.

  • Accurate estimation of evapotranspiration is mightily important for understanding and analyzing the hydrological cycle. There are various methods for estimating evapotranspiration and each method has its own advantages and limitations. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an optimal evapotranspiration product by combing different evapotranspiration products. In this study, we developed an optimal evapotranspiration by fusing two satellite- and model-based evapotranspiration estimates, including revised remote sensing-based Penman-Monteith (RS-PM) and Modified Satellite-Based Priestley-Taylor (MS-PT) methods, Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS), and Global Land Evaporation Amsterdam Model (GLEAM). The statistical analysis (i.e., correlation coefficients, index of agreement, MAE, and RMSE) of combined evapotranspiration product showed to be improved compared to the individual model results. After confirming the overall results, in future studies, advanced data fusion techniques will be used to obtained improved results.
