A Survey on Clinical Outcomes in Climacteric womens had improved by Received only Daejo-hwan at 3 months after the End of Treatment (대조환(大造丸) 투약만으로 호전된 갱년기 환자에서 치료 3개월 후 임상경과에 대란 조사연구)

  • Purpose : To assess the duration of the therapeutic effect and recurrence symptoms after stopping Herb Medication therapy for climacteric womens. Methods : 28 climacteric womens received only Daejo-hwan(DJH): 2pills(4g) a time, three times a day for a total 8 weeks as maintenance therapy and were followed up for 3 months. Grading of climacteric symptoms were measured by Kupperman's index(K.I.), Greene scale(G.S.) and MRS. Results : The results were as follows. 1. After DJH-treatment, the climacteric symptoms were improved and each mean score of K.I., G.S., and MRS reduced significantly. 2. At 3 months after the end of treatment(EOT), each mean score of K.1., G.S., and MRS reduced significantly as compared with Baseline, and increased significantly as compared with EOT. 3. At 3 months after EOT, each climacteric symptoms kept up the favorable turn and the mean score of MRS reduced significantly as compared with Baseline, but made no significant difference as compared with EOT. Conclusion : In this study, we can consider the DJH-treatment therapeutic effect was kept up for 3 months after EOT and recurrence symptoms did not appeared after EOT to climacteric womens.

  • P2Y receptors, a type of P2 receptor family, are G-protein coupled receptors and 8 subtypes have been characterized ($P2Y_1$, $P2Y_2$, $P2Y_4$, $P2Y_6$, $P2Y_{11-14}$). Recently, several studies have shed light on the role of P2Y receptors in bone biology. Among them, little is known on the role of $P2Y_6$ receptor on osteoclast differentiation. Thus, we investigated the role of $P2Y_6$ receptor on osteoclastogenesis using $P2Y_6$ receptor selective antagonist, MRS 2578. When osteoblasts and bone marrow cells were co-cultured in the presence of $VitD_3$ and $PGE_2$, $P2Y_6$ antagonist increased the formation of TRAP positive osteoclasts. To elucidate the target cells of $P2Y_6$ antagonist, we first checked the effect of MRS 2578 on osteoblasts. Treatment of MRS 2578 did not affect OPG : RANKL mRNA ratio in osteoblasts. Next, we checked the effects of $P2Y_6$ antagonist on osteoclast precursors using mouse bone marrow macrophages (BMMs). Addition of MRS 2578 increased the number of osteoclasts in RANKL-treated BMMs. Although $P2Y_6$ antagonist had no effect on RANKL-induced NFATc1, c-Fos and MafB expression levels, it significantly stimulated RANKL-induced Blimp1 mRNA expression in BMMs. Taken together, these data indicate that $P2Y_6$ antagonist increases osteoclast formation by upregulation of Blimp1 expression.

  • Handover is needed in multi-hop relay systems to support mobility. The main purpose of handover is to provide the continuous connection when a MS migrates from the air-interface of one BS to another air-interface provided by another BS. Especially the handover between different systems is essential to next generation network. Vertical Handover technology in Mobile WiMAX MMR system is very useful for operators to introduce to Mobile WiMAX system in an overlaid cell environment. This technology will be applied to technology which hands MRS(Mobile Relay Station) over to different systems for system performance enhancement in Ubiquitous environment overlaid between Micro ce11(Frequency 1,FA1) and Macro cell(Frequency 2,FA2). In this paper, FA1 and FA2 are used in order to perform Vertical Handover of MRS(Mobile Relay Station) according to suggested conditions. interferences from neighboring BS or other sectors of 6 macro cells surrounding center Macro cell are analyzed and throughputs are measured according to suggested conditions.

  • An actively-shielded $r^{2}$-gradient coil has been developed for brain localized MRI or MRS. Spatial localization is very useful for spatial volume selection in MRI or MR Spectroscopy(MRS). The radial(or $R^{2}-$) gradient coil is useful in reducing the artifact or in improving the SNR by selecting the volume with less number of RF pulses. It is, however, difficult to implement the coil with a gradient intensity strong enough to use it for practical whole-body MRI system. For example, the smallest volume size for selection is just 6 cm in diameter with a 250 Ampere of current driving for a whole-body system (in case of 70-cm-diameter). In this study, an asymetric $r^{2}$-coil with a small diameter of 35 cm has been designed and implemented for brain localized MRI or MRS. An 8-rod high-pass-type birdcage RF coil has also been implemented. The coil set has been developed for 1.0 Tesla Medison MRI system and its performance has been verified experimentally.

Latent Profile Analysis of Medical Students' Use of Motivational Regulation Strategies for Online Learning (온라인 학습에서 의과대학생의 동기조절 프로파일 유형에 따른 인지학습과 학습몰입 간 관계 분석)

  • Due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, the new norm of online learning has been recognized as core to medical institutions for academic continuity, and students are expected to be motivated and engaged in learning while maintaining distance from other peers and educators. To facilitate students' and educators' newly defined roles in online medical education settings, it is crucial to understand how students are actively motivated and engaged in learning. Hence, this study explored medical students' motivational regulation profiles and examined the effects of motivational regulation strategies (MRS) on cognitive learning and learning engagement for online learning. Data were collected after the end of the first semester in 2020 from a sample of 334 medical students enrolled at a public university school of medicine. Latent profile analysis indicated three subgroups with different motivational regulation profiles: the low-profile, medium-profile, and high-profile groups. Regarding different MRS patterns in the high-profile group, mastery self-talk, performance approach self-talk, and the self-consequating strategy appeared to be most applicable for regulating learners' motivation. Analysis of variance showed that the profile groups with higher levels of MRS use were connected to a higher willingness to use cognitive learning strategies and a higher degree of engagement in online learning. The findings of this study emphasize the use of specific sets of MRS to support learning motivation and the need to design effective self-regulated learning environments in online medical education settings.

Normal MR Spectroscopic Findings of the Cerebellum and Pons: Comparison of the Results between Intra-Unit and Inter-Unit Studies (소뇌와 뇌교의 정상 자기공명분광 소견: 같은 장비내 및 다른 장비간의 결과 비교)

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study are to evaluate normal MR spectroscopy (MRS) data of the cerebellum and pons, and to evaluate intra-unit and inter-unit differences of the results. Materials and methods: Nine normal volunteers (mean age 23 years) were studied with two 1.5 Tesla MR units (A and B units). A total of four sessions of MRS study were performed with two sessions in ea.ch MR unit in each volunteer. In each session, MRS data were obtained from bilateral cerebellar hemisphere and pons. MRS was performed using spin-echo single voxel technique with repetition time of 2000 ms, echo time of 288ms and 128 averagings. Voxel size was $2{\;}{\times}{\;}2{\;}{\times}{\;}1.5{\;}cm$ in the cerebellum and $1.5{\;}{\times}{\;}1.5{\;}{\times}{\;}1.5{\;}cm$ in the pons. Metabolite ratios of NAA/Cho, NAAcCr, NAAc(Cho+Cr) and Cr/Cho (both peak heights and the peak areas) were compared among the results of four sessions of MRS for evaluation of intra-unit and inter-unit differences. Results: In the cerebellum, mean (SO values of peak height NAA/Cho, NAA/Cr, NAA/(Cho+Cr) and Cr/Cho ratios obtained in the first session of A unit were $1.08{\pm}O.16,{\;}1.44{\pm}O.286,{\;}0.61{\pm}O.09{\;}and{\;}O.76{\pm}0.13$, respectively. Comparing with the results of the second session, intra-unit differences were 3-7%. In B unit intra-unit differences were 1-9%, except for 22% of Cr/Cho ratio. Inter-unit differences between A and B units were 1-26%. In the pons, mean ISD values of peak height NANCho, NANCr, NANICho + Cr) and Cr/Cho ratios obtained in the first session of A unit were $1.51{\pm}O.35,{\;}3.35{\pm}O.78,{\;}1.02{\pm}0.16{\;}and{\;}0.47{\pm}O.14$, respectively. Mean NAAfCho, NANCr and NAAI(Cho+ Cr} ratios of the pons were significantly higher than those of the cerebellum. Intra-unit differences were 2-21 % in A unit and 4-18 % in B unit. Inter-unit differences between A and B units were 1-18%. The mean values obtained by using peak area were generally higher and wider in range than those of peak height in both units. Conclusion: Mean NAAfCho, NAAlCr and NAAf(Cho+Cr) ratios of the cerebellum were significanHy lower than those of the pons. Intra-unit differences of most metabolites ratios were generally not significant, whereas inter-unit differences were greater than intra-unit differences in more metabolite ratios. Therefore, normal MRS data of the cerebellum and the pons should be obtained in every MR unit, before MRS applications in the diseases of the cerebellum and the pons.

Menopausal Symptoms according to Sasang Constitution and Menopausal Status among Perimenopause Women (폐경 전후 여성의 사상체질과 폐경상태에 따른 폐경증상)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to address the difference menopausal symptoms according to sasang constitution and menopausal status among perimenopausal women. Methods: Data for this cross-sectional study was collected by administering questionnaires that elicited general information. The menopause rating scale (MRS) and Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification II (QSCC II) was given to 284 perimenopausal women who met the eligibility criteria and agreed to participate in the study. Results: The study subjects were composed of 27.5% so-yangin, 24.6% so-eumin, 18.7% tae-eumin, and 29.6% undefined category. The total MRS and all subscales were significantly higher for postmenopausal women in comparison to premenopausal women. Especially, so-eumin and tae-eumin displayed significantly higher scores in urogenital symptoms. The MRS score in postmenopausal women who belonged to the group of tae-eumin and so-eumin was significantly higher than those for premenopausal women. However, so-yangin displayed higher scores in psychological and urogenital symptoms than tae-eumin for premenopausal women. So-eumin presented significantly higher scores in urogenital symptoms in comparison to the undefined category for postmenopausal women. Conclusion: These findings suggest that sasang constitution could be an important factor in understanding the woman's menopausal symptoms and identify the best treatment.

Fermentation Conditions for the Production of Cell Mass and Comparison of Saccharide Utilization in Bifidobacterium longum and B. breve

  • Saccharide utilizations for the growth by Bifidobacterium longum and Bifidobacterium breve were compared. B. longum fermented glucose more rapidly than lactose as a carbon source whereas B. breve fermented lactose at a rate higher than that of glucose. The highest cell concentration, in the case of B. longum, was obtained when cultivated in a jar fermentor that contained modified MRS medium that half the beef extract was replaced by the same amount of tuna extract, and that pH was controlled at 6.0. B. breve showed the best growth when grown in a jar fermentor containing the MRS medium with lactose instead of glucose, controlled at pH 6.0. The optimal concentration of peptone in MRS medium for the growth of B. breve was 5 g/l.

  • Objective : This case report aims to demonstrate the effect of Herbal medicine on menopausal syndrome. Methods : A 54 years woman suffered from menopausal syndrome with hot flush, insomnia and dyspepsia. According to Diagnostic system based on Shanghanlun provisions, the patient was diagnosed with Taeyang-byung and treated by Sosiho-tang decoction at first. But the next time the patient visited, she was treated by Oryeong-san decoction. The result of administrations were evaluated by Kupperman's index(KI), Menopause rating scale(MRS). Results : After administration of Sosiho-tang decoction for 35 days, KI was decreased from 50 to 19, MRS was decreased from 9 to 4. But her chronic dyspepsia wasn't getting better. So the KMD prescribed Oryeong-san decoction. After administration of Oryeong-san decoction for 14 days, KI was decreased from 19 to 0, MRS was decreased from 4 to 1. And her chronic dyspepsia was functionally improved. Conclusions : The patient completely recovered from menopausal syndrome and dyspepsia as treated by Sosiho-tang decoction and Oryeong-san decoction according to Diagnostic system based on Shanghanlun provisions.

PFG NMR Study of Intra-cellular Drug Uptake in Xenopus laevis Oocyte

  • Intra-cellular drug uptake in Xenopus laevis oocyte has been elucidated using localized MR spectroscopy (MRS) and PFG NMR techniques at a 600 $MH_z$(Bruker, 14.1 T) NMR spectrometer. The localized MRS has been done with a homemade probe, and shows the intra-cellular uptake of nicotinamide. The self-diffusion of the molecule in Xenopus oocyte was obtained by PFG NMR technique. The measured data are well fitted with a linear combination of two exponential functions, which shows that there are two types of drug molecules, intra-and extra-cellular molecules. Diffusion coefficients of intra- and extra-cellular drug molecules are 3.7 $\times$ $10^{-11}$ $\m^{2}/s$and 6.4 $\times$ $10^{-10}$ $\m^{2}/s$, respectively. In the weighting factors there is shown that about 5% of drug molecule is inside the cells. These techniques can be used for drug screening in molecule-, cell-, and tissue-based preclinical test.
