Nuclear Medicine Images have comparatively poor spatial resolution, making it difficult to relate the functional information which they contain to precise anatomical structures. Anatomical structures useful in the interpretation of SPECT /PET Images were radiolabelled. PET/SPECT Images Provide functional information, whereas MRI mainly demonstrate morphology and anatomical. Fusion or Image Registration improves the information obtained by correlating images from various modalities. Brain Scan were studied on one or more occations using MRI and SPECT. The data were aligned using a point pair methods and surface matching. SPECT and MR Images was tested using a three dimensional water fillable Hoffman Brain Phantom with small marker and PET and MR Image was tested using a patient data. Registration of SPECT and MR Images is feasible and allows more accurate anatomic assessment of sites of abnormal uptake in radiolabeled studies. Point based registration was accurate and easily implemented three dimensional registration of multimodality data set for fusion of clinical anatomic and functional imaging modalities. Accuracy of a surface matching algorithm and homologous feature pair matching for three dimensional image registration of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT), Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Images(MRD was tested using a three dimensional water fill able brain phantom and Patients data. Transformation parameter for translation and scaling were determined by homologous feature point pair to match each SPECT and PET scan with MR images.
Purpose : The purpose of the present study was to develop and optimize solenoid coil for animal- model in 3 T MRI system and investigate and compare with the birdcage coil concerning the image quality with the various parameters such as SNR and Q-factor. Materials and Methods : Solenoid coil for animal-model was made on the acryl structure (diameter 4 cm, length 10 cm) 3 times-winding cooper tape of width 2 cm, thickness 0.05 cm and length 10 cm with 2 cm interval between winded tapes. Capacitors from 2 pF to 100 pF were used, and the solenoid coil was designed for receiver only coil. Results : SNR of the developed solenoid was 985 in CuSO4 0.7 g/L and 995 in rat experiment. Q-factor was 84-89 in unloaded condition and 203-206 in loaded condition. Conclusion : The resolution of the image obtained from solenoid was relatively higher than that of the conventional birdcage coil. In addition, the homogeneity of RF field by coil simulation was significantly excellent. The present study demonstrated that the solenoid coil could be useful to obtain small animal images with better contrast, resolution, visibility than images from birdcage.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate comparison of static MRI and pseudo-dynamic (cine) MRI in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder patients. Materials and Methods: In this investigation, 33 patients with TMJ disorders were examined using both conventional static MRI and pseudo-dynamic MRI. Multiple spoiled gradient recalled acquisition in the steady state (SPGR) images were obtained when mouth opened and closed. Proton density weighted images were obtained at the closed and open mouth position in static MRI. Two oral and maxillofacial radiologists evaluated location of the articular disk, movement of condyle and bony change respectively and the posterior boundary of articular disk was obtained. Results: No statistically significant difference was found in the observation of articular disk position, mandibular condylar movement and posterior boundary of articular disk using static MRI and pseudo-dynamic MRI (P<0.05). Statistically significant difference was noted in bony changes of condyle using static MRI and pseudo-dynamic MRI (P<0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that pseudo-dynamic MRI didn't make a difference in diagnosing internal derangement of TMJ in comparison with static MRI. But it was considered as an additional method to be supplemented in observing bony change.
Purpose : To assess the distortion of MRI with the Leksell stereotactic radiosurgery system in variable pulse sequence and imaging plane through phantom study, to find most adequate imaging plane and pulse sequence for stereotactic radiosurgery system. Materials and methods : We made the phantoms for MRI and get images in variable conditions and analyzed the image distortion using image analysis program, and statistically using paired student t-test. Results : The transeverse plane images had acceptable error ranges bless than 1.5mm) in all pulse sequence in both the analysis of fiducial marker in stereotactic G-frame and the phantom study. The coronal plane images had unacceptable large errors (more than 1.7mm) in the analysis of fiducial marker in the stereotactic G-frame, but had corrected small errors (less than 1.5mm) in the phantom study. Conclusion : We find from the phantom study that the present MR machines are adequate for stereotactic surgery system in frequently used pulse sequences, and imaging planes.

This study was carried out to determine the factors affecting the trend and usage of Magnetic Resonance Imaging before and after the implementation of National Health Insurance. The research materials were the MRI Execution Data, Health Insurance Review Data, and Medical Expenses in the Health Insurance Data from a General Hospital located in Dae-jeon Metropolitan City from 2004 to 2013. The subjects of analysis were 3,754 people in 2004 (prior to the implementation of Health Insurance), and 4,107-8,603 people from 2005-2013(after the implementation of Health Insurance). In terms of analysis, a comparison of the use of MRI before and after implementation of the Health Insurance of User Characteristics and Provider Characteristics were taken as $X^2$, while factor analysis for the elements that affect MRI usage was carried out by Hierarchical Multiple Regression Analysis. According to the results of this study, the level of use decreased temporarily in the initial application stages of the national health insurance, but it soon increased. In particular, the inspection rates for women, the head and neck, those not subject to the application of the national health insurance, internal medicine, and the inpatients increased. The application of the national health insurance for MRI influenced the increasing inspection rates (P<.0001). As the inspection rate for the MRI increased, it is important to expand the application of the national health insurance to reduce the national health expenditure.
With advancement of the medical imaging technology, the dynamic pelvic MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) has been introduced and used for dynamic MR defecography to improved diagnosis of the patients. At the early stage of its use, it was mostly used to diagnose enterocele or cystocele, then its use was extended to diagnose the organ prolapse and other dysfunctional pelvis organs. There now have been many reports of other diseases such as the functional constipation and others. This paper introduces the pelvis MRI and the dynamic MR defecography and reports the future trend in their clinical applications. Until recently, the studies with pelvic MRI were mostly focused on observing the movement of the pelvis in the supine position. Yang and 26 others reported good result in observing the patients with the pelvic organ prolapse by using the pubococcygeal line as the anatomical index. Using the fast gradient recalled acquisition (fast GRASS), they compared cystocoele, genitourinary prolapse, enterocoele and rectocoele with the control group. Kruyt et al. observed the posterior compartment and reported that MRI was more helpful than the fluoroscopy. Healy et al. applied the dynamic MRI test on the patients with constipation or incontinence as well as the control group without those symptoms. Since then, MRI technology has further advance by Lienemann, who was able to attain the more detailed images using the fast T2 weighted turbo spin echo technology, and others. If its limitation in diagnosing intussusception and the like, since the observation can be made only from the supine position, can be overcome with open MR or others, it is envisages that the method can eventually replace the radiological defecography.
Rotator cuff tears are a leading cause of shoulder pain in adults. Due to the increase in social activities, the number of patients complaining of shoulder pain is increasing, and interest in shoulder diseases is also increasing. With the development of ultrasound equipment, the sensitivity and specificity of diagnosis are high, and it is used to diagnose rotator cuff tears in musculoskeletal disease. Ultrasound is recognized as a complementary method to MRI examination in rotator cuff tears. Therefore, this study aimed to find out the diagnostic usefulness of ultrasound and MRI examinations in the diagnosis of shoulder rotator cuff tears.A retrospective analysis was performed on 262 patients who were diagnosed with final rotator cuff damage by arthroscopy after completing ultrasound and MRI examinations. Sensitivity, feature, positive predictive value, image predictive value, and touch were disassembled for the test results. In addition, the degree of clavicular tear was scored and recorded in 5 stages. Ultrasound examination was similar to MRI examination results for both full-thickness and partial tears, and there was no statistically significant difference. Partial tear test results showed higher positive predictive value and accuracy than MRI test. In conclusion, ultrasound can be fully utilized as a screening test for rotator cuff disease, and it is thought that it will be selected and used clinically according to the patient's constitution and situation.
In this paper, we have reported two interesting flow effects arising in the TRFGE sequence using water flow phantom. First, we have shown that the TRFGE sequence is indeed not affected by "in-flow" effect from the unsaturated spins flowing into the imaging slice. Second, the enhancement of "in-plane flow" signal in the readout gradient direction was observed when the TRFGE sequence was used without flow compensation. These two results have many interesting applications in MR imaging other than fMRI. Results obtained were also compared with the results obtained by the conventional gradient echo(CGE) imaging. Experiments were performed at 4.7T MRI/S animal system (Biospec, BRUKER, Switzerland). A cylindrical phantom was made using acryl and a vinyl tube was inserted at the center(Fig. 1). The whole cylinder was filled with water doped with $MnCl_2$ and the center tube was filled with saline which flows in parallel to the main magnetic field along the tube. Tailored RF pulse was designed to have quadratic ($z^2$) phase distribution in slice direction(z). Imaging parameters were TR/TE = 55~85/10msec, flip angle = $30^{\circ}$, slice thickness = 2mm, matrix size = 256${\times}$256, and FOV= 10cm. In-flow effect : Axial images were obtained with and without flow using the CGE and TRFGE sequences, respectively. The flow direction was perpendicular to the image slice. In-plane flow : Sagittal images were obtained with and without flow using the TRGE sequence. The readout gradient was applied in parallel to the flow direction. We have observed that the "in-flow" effect did not affect the TRFGE image, while "in-plane flow" running along the readout gradient direction enhanced the signal in the TRFGE sequence when flow compensation gradient scheme was not used.
