Magneto-rheological elastomers (MREs) were manufactured by incorporation of magnetic responsible powder (MRP) into natural rubber and silicone rubber. The optimum loading amounts of MRP was 30 vol.% and the natural rubber based MRE (NR-MRE) showed better mechanical property than that of silicone rubber based MRE (S-MRE). However, the modulus shift ratio caused by S-MRE, measured by Self-modified Electromagnet Applied Fast Fourier Transform Analyser (SEFFTA), was higher than that of NR-MRE. The modulus shift ratio caused by NR-MRE was 10%, while the modulus shift ratio caused by S-MRE was 35.7%. The modulus shift ratio could be improved by orienting the magnetic direction of MRP before crosslinking the MRE. The degree of orientation of MRP was analyzed using SEM.
We have analyzed the MRE3/REC114 gene of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, previously detected in isolation of mutants defective in meiotic recombination. We cloned the MRE3/REC114 gene by complementation of the meiotic recombination defect and it has been mapped to chormosome XIII. The DNA sequence analysis revealed that the MRE3 gene is identical to the REC114 gene. The upstream region of the MRE3/REC114 gene contains a T_4C site, a URS (upstream repression sequence) and a TR (T-rich) box-like sequence, which reside upstream of many meiotic genes. Coincidentally, northern blot analysis indicated that the three sizes of MRE3/REC114 transcripts, 3.4, 1.4 and 1.2 kb, are induced in meiosis. A less abundant transcript of 1.4 kb is detected in both mitotic and meiotic cells, suggesting that it is needed in mitosis as well as meiosis. To examine the role of the MRE3/REC114 gene, we constructed mre3 disruption mutants. Strains carrying an insertion or null deletion of the MRE3/REC114 gene showed slow growth in nutrient medium and the doubling time of these cells increased approximately by 2-fond compared to the wild-type strain. Moreover, the deletion mutant (${\delta}$mre3) displayed no meiotically induced recombination and no viable spores. The mre3/rec114 spore lethality can be suppressed by spo13, a mutation that causes cells to bypass reductional division. The double-stranded breaks (DSBs) which are involved in initiation of meiotic recombination were not detected in the analysis of meiotic chromosomal DNA from the mre3/rec114 disruptant. From these results we suggest that the MRE3/REC114 gene product is essential in normal growth and in early meiotic stages involved in meiotic recombination.

In the medical field, the hardening of tissues is one of important informations used in diagnosis or understanding progress of disease, a quantitative measuring method of hardening is important for objective diagnosis. It has been proposed MRE(Magnetic Resonance Elastography) method that measures an index of hardening, viscoelastic properties in a noninvasive. Because the S/N ratio of MRE images go down when measuring viscoelastic properties from local wavelength and local damping factor of a propagating wave in MRE method, methods using multiple phase MRE images have been examined to decrease the effect of noise. We propose a method measuring viscoelastic properties after Fitting a function for multiple phase MRE images in this research. This proposed method has a advantage to set up arbitrarily the variation rate of a space direction of viscoelastic properties or the spatial resolution of measuring values according to changing of the noise included in images, though it applies viscoelastic wave for multiple phase MRE images. We confirmed the effectiveness of a proposed method by experiment using simulation images and experiment using silicone-gel phantom.
The MRE (Monitoring Reconfiguration Electronics) board included inside the SCU (Spacecraft Computer Unit) in the COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) spacecraft is used to monitor the battery voltage and to detect a battery under voltage (low battery capacity) or a battery overvoltage (overcharge). In case of alarm detection, a reconfiguration is initiated by the MRE board. The MRE configures the overall spacecraft in the survival mode to protect the Li-Ion (lithium ion) battery from overcharge and over discharge. For the EPS (Electrical Power Subsystem) point of view, the survival mode can be trigged from hardware wired thresholds. The aim of this paper to provide and to justify the low and high threshold levels which are associated to the MRE battery voltage monitoring. The MRE trig guarantees minimum battery energy to available for the required 48 hours autonomy duration of the spacecraft after MRE trig in the survival mode.
The U.S. Army is capable and ready to deploy full-spectrum armed forces anywhere in the world as we have seen in Iraq and Afghanistan. This commitment is within the realm of logistics support that the readiness to support MRE(Meal Ready to Eat), according to the environment where the operation is on going. ROKA(Republic Of Korea Army) proceeds with the program to develop and reserve various MRE under the assumption of distinctive warfare operating environment. This study investigates to determine the amount of MRE consumption within various operating environment and details are as follows. First we ponder the concept of MRE and identified problems of the existing program. Second we also establish feeding rations by the types of MRE that is the base for calculation. Third we introduce MRE consumption algorithm and formula. Fourth and last we have applied our model to the program and analyzed the results. The present state of the estimation didn't reflect various warfare operating environment. Therefore we simulates theater wargame model to determine the consumption under various warfare operating environment. The result of this study is anticipated to contribute largely to the force enhancement as it mirrors of every circumstances of operating environment.

Magneto-rheological elastomers(MRE) are similar to magnetorheological fluids. Thus, rheological properties of MRE can be also controlled by an applied magnetic field. The MRE in this experiment is a mixture of natural rubber(NR), carbonyl iron powder(CIP), ZnO, and sulfur. Three specimens were prepared and tested by using the vibration testing instruments. The magnetic field was generated by the electromagnets. Natural frequencies of the oscillator were changed by the applied magnetic field. The properties of the MRE were increased due to magnetic field strength.
The nonlinear vibration analysis of a magneto-rheological elastomer (MRE) sandwich plate is conducted experimentally. Experiments have been performed in order to construct the frequency-response curves in the vicinity of the fundamental natural frequency of an MRE sandwich plate (plate A) in either the absence or presence of a localised external magnetic field at 3 different geometrical locations, for both small and medium magnetic fields. Furthermore, experiments have also been conducted on a pure aluminium plate (plate B) with an equal thickness to the MRE sandwich plate (plate A) in order to examine the influence of the MRE layer on the nonlinear dynamics of the system. An electrodynamic shaker was used to directly force each system and the displacement at the centre of the plate was measured. Meanwhile, permanent magnets were used to apply a localised magnetic field for the experiments where the MRE sandwich plate was subject to an external magnetic field. It was observed all the MRE systems displayed strong hardening-type nonlinear behaviour, however, with increasing magnetic field this behaviour transitioned to a weak hardening-type nonlinearity.

Objective: Computed tomography enterography (CTE) and magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) are considered substitutes for each other for evaluating Crohn's disease (CD). However, the adequacy of mixing them for routine periodic follow-up for CD has not been established. This study aimed to compare MRE alone with the mixed use of CTE and MRE for the periodic follow-up of small bowel inflammation in patients with CD. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively compared two non-randomized groups, each comprising 96 patients with CD. One group underwent CTE and MRE (MRE followed by CTE or vice versa) for the follow-up of CD (interval, 13-27 months [median, 22 months]), and the other group underwent MRE alone (interval, 15-26 months [median, 21 months]). However, these two groups were similar in clinical characteristics. Three independent readers from three different institutions determined whether inflammation had decreased, remained unchanged, or increased within the entire small bowel and the terminal ileum based on sequential enterography of the patients after appropriate blinding. We compared the two groups for inter-reader agreement and accuracy (terminal ileum only) using endoscopy as the reference standard for enterographic interpretation. Results: The inter-reader agreement was greater in the MRE alone group for the entire small bowel (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC]: 0.683 vs. 0.473; p = 0.005) and the terminal ileum (ICC: 0.656 vs. 0.490; p = 0.030). The interpretation accuracy was higher in the MRE alone group without statistical significance (70.9%-74.5% vs. 57.9%-64.9% in individual readers; adjusted odds ratio = 3.21; p = 0.077). Conclusion: The mixed use of CTE and MRE was inferior to MRE alone in terms of inter-reader reliability and could probably be less accurate than MRE alone for routine monitoring of small bowel inflammation in patients with CD. Therefore, the consistent use of MRE is favored for this purpose.
Conventional MRI methods using T1-, T2-, diffusion-, perfusion-weighting, and functional imaging rely on characterizing the physical and functional properties of the tissue. In this review, we introduce an imaging modality based on measured the mechanical properties of soft tissue, namely magnetic resonance elastography (MRE). The use of palpation to identify the stiffness of tissue remains a fundamental diagnostic tool. MRE can quantify the stiffness of the tissue thereby providing a objective means to measure the mechanical properties. To accomplish a successful clinical setting using MRE, hardware and software techniques in the area of transducer, pulse sequence, and imaging processing algorithm need to be developed. Transducer, a mechanical vibrator, is the core of MRE application to make wave propagate invivo. For this reason, considerations of the frame of human body, pressure and friction of the interface, and high magnetic field of a MRI system needs to be taken into account when designing a transducer. Given that the wave propagates through human body effectively, developing an appropriate pulse sequence is another important issue in obtaining an optimal image. In this review paper, we introduce the technical aspects needed for MRE experiments and introduce several applications of this new field.
The neodymium magnet inserted mold was proposed to orient magneto-responsible particles efficiently. The anisotropic magneto-rheological elastomer(MRE) was prepared using the new mold and the optimum amounts of the particles was 30 vol.%. As the orientation of particles was increased, the tensile strength of MRE was decreased, while the hardness of MRE was increased. It was found that the MRE containing 30 vol.% of magneto-responsible particles showed the maximum magneto-rheological effect. The ratio of shear modulus shift was 59% at the input current of 3 A. The transmissibility of MRE was decreased with increasing the input current and loading amounts of magneto-responsible particles. Therefore, the damping property of MRE could be improved by preparing the anisotropic MRE.
