MR 댐퍼를 이용한 장애인의 무릎관절 보조 장치 설계 및 실험 (Design and Experiment of an Assistive Device for a Knee Joint of a Disabled Person Using an MR Damper)

  • In this paper, an assistive device for a knee joint to help a disabled person to stand up by supporting power is presented. The device is designed and controlled by using damping characteristics of the MR (Magneto-Rheological) damper. The MR damper helps the person to sit slowly and safely. A DC motor supports muscle power in the case of standing motion. Thus the device helps the disabled person to sit down and stand up. Through the experiments, it is feasible that an assistive device can help the disabled person to standup according to the foot pressure change.

Optimal layout of a partially treated laminated composite magnetorheological fluid sandwich plate

  • In this study, the optimal location of the MR fluid segments in a partially treated laminated composite sandwich plate has been identified to maximize the natural frequencies and the loss factors. The finite element formulation is used to derive the governing differential equations of motion for a partially treated laminated composite sandwich plate embedded with MR fluid and rubber material as the core layer and laminated composite plate as the face layers. An optimization problem is formulated and solved by combining finite element analysis (FEA) and genetic algorithm (GA) to obtain the optimal locations to yield maximum natural frequency and loss factor corresponding to first five modes of flexural vibration of the sandwich plate with various combinations of weighting factors under various boundary conditions. The proposed methodology is validated by comparing the natural frequencies evaluated at optimal locations of MR fluid pockets identified through GA coupled with FEA and the experimental measurements. The converged results suggest that the optimal location of MR fluid pockets is strongly influenced not only by the boundary conditions and modes of vibrations but also by the objectives of maximization of natural frequency and loss factors either individually or combined. The optimal layout could be useful to apply the MR fluid pockets at critical components of large structure to realize more efficient and compact vibration control mechanism with variable damping.

Impact of different levels of lactose and total solids of the liquid diet on calf performance, health, and blood metabolites

  • Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of feeding milk replacer (MR) with varying levels of lactose and the increased supply of total solids (from 750 to 960 g/d) on performance, blood metabolites, and health of Holstein male calves during the preweaning period. Methods: Forty newborn Holstein calves (10 per treatment) were blocked according to birth weight and date of birth and distributed in a randomized block design to different liquid diets: Whole milk powder (WMP) diluted to 125 g/L solids; MR with 48% lactose (48L), diluted to 125 g/L solids; MR with 53% lactose (53L), diluted to 125 g/L solids; 53L MR corrected to 160 g/L solids (16TS) by the inclusion of a solid corrector. Calves were individually housed in wood hutches, fed 6 L/d of the liquid diet, and had free water and starter concentrate access. The study lasted 56 days. Results: Liquid diet intake was higher for calves fed 16TS than for other treatments. Calves fed 16TS presented higher protein and fat intake, followed by those fed WMP and the 48L or 53L MRs. Lactose intake was higher for 16TS-fed calves, followed by 53L, 48L, and WMP-fed calves. Starter and total dry matter intake did not differ among liquid diets. The average daily gain was higher for 16TS than 48L-fed calves, with the other treatments being intermediary. The lowest feed efficiency was observed for calves fed 48L. No effects on health were observed, as well as on selected blood metabolites, except for albumin concentration, which was higher for calves fed 16TS and WMP. Conclusion: Higher total solids content (160 g/L) in MR increases nutrient intake and consequently improves the performance of dairy calves. Feeding MRs with levels of lactose up to 53% of the DM had no deleterious effect on the performance or health of the calves.

Comparative Study on the Power Transfer Efficiency of Magnetic Resonance and Radio Frequency Wireless Power Transmission

  • In this paper, the power transfer efficiencies (PTEs) of magnetic resonance (MR) wireless power transmission (WPT) and radio frequency (RF) WPT are compared as a function of the distances between resonators (or antennas). The PTE of the C-loaded loop resonators during MR WPT was theoretically calculated and simulated at 6.78MHz, showing good agreement. The PTE of the patch antennas, whose area is the same as the C-loaded loop resonator during MR WPT, was theoretically calculated using the Friis equation and the equation by N. Shinohara and simulated at 5.8 GHz. The three results from the Friis equation, the equation by N. Shinohara, and from a full wave simulation are in strong agreement. The PTEs, when using the same size resonators and antennas are compared by considering the distance between the receiver and transmitter. The compared results show that the MR WPT PTE is higher than that of the RF WPT PTE when the distance (r) between the resonators (or antennas) is shorter. However, the RF WPT PTE is much higher than that of the MR WPT PTE when the distance (r) between the resonators (or antennas) is longer since the RF WPT PTE is proportional to $r^{-2}$ while the MR WPT PTE is proportional to $r^{-6}$.

  • 본 논문에서는 LED의 고출력화가 이루어지면서 많이 사용되고 있는 LED MR 타입과 PAR 타입의 램프 배광을 설계하였다. 1W와 5W급의 High power LED를 적용하였고, 1개의 LED가 사용된 빔각 30도의 MR16 램프부터 9개의 LED가 사용된 빔각 60도의 PAR30 램프까지 총 6가지 배광을 구현하고 최대광도로 각각의 성능을 평가하였다. 빔 각을 구현하고 집광시키기 위하여 LED dome 측면부에 소형의 반사판을 설계하였다.

MR Polishing을 이용한 커버글라스의 굽힘강도 향상에 관한 연구 (A study of minimizing edge chipping of coverglass using MR Polishing)

  • Coverglass of electronic equipments is thinner and slimmer, so the glass must have good bending strength. In these days, the polishing edge of glass is used by solid tool like grinding wheel. But solid tool leave micro crack or edge chipping in edge of glass. MR polishing is an optimal method by polishing edge of glass. MR polishing is used MR fluid that is a liquid tool. MR polishing doesn't leave tool path or residual stress, micro crack and edge chipping unlike grinding wheel polishing. In this paper, the results of grinding and MR polishing were compared and analyzed to improve bending strength by minimizing edge chipping of cover glass. It was derived that the depth and size of cracks have a significant influence on the bending strength of the glass edge. The edges of the glass using MR grinding were analyzed to have a better surface and higher bending strength than the glass using abrasive wheel grinding. It was confirmed that MR polishing had an effect on strength improvement by effectively removing cracks in the specimen.

MR 영상에서 중간형상정보 생성을 통한 활성형상모델 기반 반월상 연골 자동 분할 (Automatic Segmentation of the meniscus based on Active Shape Model in MR Images through Interpolated Shape Information)

  • 본 논문에서는 MR 영상에서 중간형상정보를 이용한 활성형상모델 기반의 반월상 연골 자동 분할 기법을 제안한다. 첫째, 훈련집합 내의 형상 변형을 반영하기 위해 반월상 연골 통계형상모델을 생성한다. 둘째, 큰 변형을 갖는 반월상 연골의 견고한 분할을 위해 유사도에 따른 가중치 기법을 이용하여 중간형상정보 생성 기법을 제안한다. 마지막으로 활성형상모탤 적합을 통해 반월상 연골 자동 분할을 수행한다. 제안 방법의 평가를 위하여 육안평가와 정확성 평가 그리고 수행시간을 측정하였다. 정확성 평가는 자동 분할과 반자동 분할 결과간의 평균거리차이를 측정하였고 이를 컬러맵으로 표현하였다. 실험 결과 평균거리차이는 내측 반월상 연골은 $0.54{\pm}0.16mm$, 외측 반월상 연골은 $0.73{\pm}0.39mm$으로 측정되었고, 수행시간은 평균 4.87초로 측정되었다.

LED 등기구의 발열량 비교분석 (Comparative Analysis on Heat Radiation of LED Luminaires)

  • Heat radiation of LED luminaires has risen a problem when applied indoor. LEDs can save energy with higher efficacy than other light sources. However, their heat radiation may increase power consumption for air-conditioning. Therefore, this paper carried out a comparative analysis on the amount of heat radiation for MR16, E26 bulb, and down-light which will be replaced to LED luminaires. Heat amount of LED-MR16 and LED-downlight was 48% and 87.5% lower than that of conventional lamps, halogen MR16 and E26 CFL, respectively. Consequently, the heat amount and indoor temperature were proportional to the power consumption of luminaire. Therefore, the use of LED luminaire can reduce the amount of heat radiation as well as power consumption.

고온 기기의 크리프-피로 균열성장 평가 (Assessment of Creep-Fatigue Crack Growth for a High Temperature Component)

  • An assessment of creep-fatigue crack behavior is required to ensure the structural integrity for high temperature components such as fast breeder reactor structures or thermal power plant components operating at an elevated temperature. In this study, an evaluation of creep-fatigue crack growth has been carried out according to the French assessment guide of the RCC-MR A16 for austenitic stainless steel structures. The assessment procedures for creep-fatigue crack growth in the recent version of the A16 (2007 edition) have been changed considerably from the previous version (2002 edition) and the material properties (RCC-MR Appendix A3) have been changed as well. The impacts of those changes on creep-fatigue crack growth behavior are quantified from the assessments with a structural model. Finally the assessment results were compared with the observed images obtained from the structural tests of the same structural specimen.
