  • End-User Computing (EUC) is one of the most significant developments in corporate computing in the 1980's. An information center (IC) supports EUC by providing end-users with technical assistance and consulting services. This study investigates the effective management and implementation of an IC in an organization with respect to the three sociotechnical factors : characteristics of end-users, social relationships with the DP/MIS department, and 3) technological infrastructure of EUC. An exploratory framework for managing IC is developed based on extensive literature review and results from interviews with IC directors of 17 large companies in the midwestern region in U.S.A.

  • With the advances of wireless information technology, many application softwares such as ERP gradually has increased. But those application softwares have some serious problems such that performance degradation and concurrency control resulting from the limited bandwidth and unreliability of wireless communication, In this paper, as a solution to take around those limitations, we propose a middleware framework for wireless communication environments.

  • A framework for knowledge management system has been explored which enables the semantic search of knowledge on the web. Knowledge representation by RDF and RDF schema enables machine cognition of knowledge documents. Dublin core was adopted for structured metadata representation. Thereby, it enables the CBR and rule based reasoning for intelligent knowledge retrieval. Grafting of the WFMS technique unto the KMS facilitates the effective utilization of process knowledge and creation of new knowledge.

  • Objectives of this study are to analyze the previous research perfomed in the Bus Information System (BIS) area and to suggest future research directions. This is a very meaningful and important work. To accomplish this, this study (1) summarizes the concepts of BIS, (2) establishes a research framework to be used to analyze the previous studies in the area, and (3) identifies and suggest trends and future directions of the BIS research. This study has identified total of 68 article (22 foreign and 46 domestic) using 'Google Scholoar' search engine. Major research results include (1) since non-empirical research is dominant, more explanatory empirical research is needed in the future, (2) research that provides consistent and comprehensive measures for BIS related constructs (e.g., BIS quality) is needed, and (3) impacts on the stakeholders of BIS not reflected in the current research (e.g., bus drivers, administrative agencies) should be analyzed in the future research.

  • IT industry is moving into the age of business model. Recently, global companies with innovative business models such as Apple, Facebook prevail. These companies sustain the competitiveness through changing the components of their business model. To study the way of keeping Korean IT companies' edges sharp, it is required to examine the components that bring innovations to their current business model. This study identifies the critical components of business model and provides an analytical business model framework. A comparative case study was employed to examine the characteristics of Korean IT companies' business model through the proposed framework. The result of this study can contribute to increase understanding of the business model of Korean IT companies and to suggest challenges in business model they face.

  • As the Internet has been used widely in modern firms for gaining competitive advantage in the market, EC (Electronic Commerce) emerged as one of strong alternatives for this purpose. Many researchers and practitioners have proposed a wide variety of EC frameworks that can consider only the structured conditions, but there exists no EC mechanism in which engaged entities can take into account the various unstructured conditions. With the conventional EC framework, the structured EC conditions such as price, quantity, delivery date, etc. can be fully negotiated during the EC process. However, no studies have been conducted on the issue of incorporating those unstructured conditions which are difficult to represent in an explicit form and therefore hard to consider explicitly during the EC process. They are characterized by causal properties. This means that we should have a new EC mechanism which is capable of dealing with causal knowledge. In this sense, we propose a FCM (Fuzzy Cognitive Map)-based simulation framework for EC to resolve the problem of considering the unstructured conditions during the EC process. We experimented our prototype with several illustrative examples and proved that our approach is robust and meaningful.

  • This paper examined risk reduction methods utilized by consumers in apparel buying situation in multidimensional conceptual framework, and analyzed the relationships between risk types, consumer demographic variables and preferences of risk reduction methods. Samples of 224 consumers were deliberately selected to include various demographic characteristics such as sex, age, educational level, occupation, income level. The results of the principal axis factor analysis indicated that 26 item risk reduction methods could be summarized into 6 meaningful factors; Marketer-dominated Information Sources Use (MIS), Prepurchase Deliberation / Observation i Dependence on Past Buying Experience (DOE), Independent Information Sources Use (lIS), Interpersonal Information Sources Use (PIS), Brand Loyalty (BL), Label Reading / Guarantee Buying (RG). DOE were used most whereas IIS used least. Correlations of various types of risk perceived with the preference of risk reduction methods were significant especially for positive relationship between psychologi-cal and/or economic risk and DOE, and between social risk and/or fashionability loss and MIS. Results of ANOVA and Duncan test suggested that sex, age, educational level, occupation of consumers can act as ones of determinant variables on making differences in the use of risk reduction methods.

  • As the importance of information security becomes a major concern, there has been growing effort to educate information security professionals. This study aims to analyze the level of required knowledge and skills for four information security skills groups: strategy and planning; research and development; system management and operation; and accident control. For this study, we selected 55 critical knowledge and skills for information security professionals by literature review and Delphi method, and we conducted a survey of information security knowledge and skills requirements for information security professionals to perform their jobs. As a result, we analyzed the current status of the information security professionals' knowledge and skills level and suggested some guidelines for establishing the demand-based curriculum for training information security professionals.

  • Rice varietal information exchange is vital for agricultural experiments and trials. With the growing size of rice data gathered around the world, and numerous research and development achievements, the effective collection and convenient ways of data dissemination is an important aspect to be dealt with. The collection of this data is continuously worked out through various international cooperation and network programs. The problem in acquiring this information anytime anywhere is the new challenge faced by rice breeders, scientist and crop information specialists, in order to perform rapid analysis and obtain significant results in rice research, thus alleviating rice production. To address these constraints, we propose an Online Analytical Query System, a web query application to provide breeders and rice scientist around the world a fast web search engine for rice varieties, giving the users the freedom to choose from which trial it has been used, trait observation parameters as well as geographical or weather conditions, and location specifications. The application uses data warehouse techniques and OLAP for summarization of agricultural trials conducted, and statistical analysis in deriving outstanding varieties used in these trials, consolidated in an Model-View-Controller Web framework.
