  • Dirty Paper Coding(DPC) can achieve the sum capacity of a multiuser multiple-input multiple-output(MU MIMO) broadcast channels. However, due to the high computational complexity of the successive encoding and decoding, deploying DPC in real systems is impractical. As one of practical alternatives to DPC, Block Diagonalization(BD) was researched. BD is an extension of the zero-forcing preceding technique that eliminates interuser interference(IUI) in downlink MIMO systems. Though BD has lower complexity than DPC, BD shows poor sum capacity performance. We show that sum capacity performance of BD is degraded due to no IUI constraint. Then, we modify BD to improve its sum capacity performance with relaxing the constraint and sub optimal channel set searching. With simulation results, it can be verified that our modification in BD induces some improvement in sum capacity performance.

  • In this paper, we examine the MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) system in the point of mobile communication that is used for railway environment. First, under the radio environment, wireless channel characteristics are analyzed between moving train and base station, both assuming track side base stations and non-track side base stations. Next, the paper introduces the MIMO system which can be used to solve the problem of performance degradation in railway environment, and analyzes its performance in terms of channel capacity and diversity. We especially compares open-loop scheme with closed loop scheme at the diversity and analyses their performance according to antenna correlation. Finally, the we presents experimental result from the ESCORT project that was studied in railway environment with the MIMO system.

  • In recent years, the goal of providing high speed wireless data services has generated a great amount of interest among the research community. Several researchers have shown that the capacity of the system, in the presence of flat Rayleigh fading, improves significantly with the use of combined MIMO and LDPC. To feed the soft values to LDPC decoder, the soft values must be calculated from multiple transmitter and receiver antennas in Rayleigh fading channel. It requires high computational complexity to get the soft symbols by increasing number of transmitter and receiver antennas. Therefore, this thesis proposed on effective algorithm for calculation of soft values from multiple antennas based on LLR. As result, This thesis shows that maximum 61% of computational complexity is reduced with a little loss of performance.

  • In everyday life, the ratio of credit card aspect ratio is 1: 1.56, and A4 printer paper is 1: 1.414, which is relatively balanced golden ratio. In this paper, we show the Fibonacci Golden ratio as a polynomial based on the golden ratio, which is the most balanced and ideal visible ratio, and show that the application of Euler and symmetric jacket polynomial is related to BPSK and QPSK constellation. As a proof method, we have derived Fibonacci Golden and Galois field element polynomials. Then mathematically, We have newly derived a golden jacket code that can be used to generate an appropriate code with orthogonal properties and can simply be used for inverse calculation. We also obtained a channel capacity according to the channel correlation change using a block jacket matrix in a MIMO mobile communication.

  • We propose a new bandwidth-efficient technique that achieves high data rates over a wideband wireless channel. This new scheme is targeted for a multiple-input multiple- output orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) system that achieves transmit diversity through a space frequency block code and capacity enhancement through the iterative joint processing of zero-forcing detection and maximum a posteriori (MAP) decoding. Furthermore, the proposed scheme is compared to the coded Bell Labs Layered Space-Time OFDM (BLAST-OFDM) scheme.

  • Recent exploration of smart-phone user is fueling the deployment of long term evolution (LTE) service that offers higher data rates service over 3G HSPA networks. In particular, Korea, mobile powerhouse, recently launched the service of LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) which is the latest release in LTE standard. Multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technology is the one of key enablers for LTE and LTE-A for achieving high data rate. MIMO technology has received much attention since it is possible to achieve channel capacity in proportion to the number of antennas without increasing frequency and power. In this paper, we overview of the theoretical background of MIMO technology regarding from single-user MIMO, multiuser MIMO, and massive MIMO and design considerations to implement the communication system.

  • In wireless communications, antenna selection (AS) is a widely used method for reducing comparable cost of multiple RF chains in MIMO systems. As is well known, most of literatures on combining AS with MIMO techniques concern linear modulations such as phase shift keying (PSK) and quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). The combination of CPM and MIMO has been considered an optimal choice that can improve its capacity without loss of power and spectrum efficiency. The aim of this paper is to investigate joint transmit and receive antenna selection (JTRAS) in CPM MIMO systems. Specifically, modified incremental and decremental JTRAS algorithms are proposed to adapt to arbitrary number of selected transmit or receive antennas. The computational complexity of several JTRAS algorithms is analyzed from the perspective of channel capacity. As a comparison, the performances of bit error rate (BER) and spectral efficiency are evaluated via simulations. Moreover, computational complexity of the JTRAS algorithms is simulated in the end. It is inferred from discussions that both incremental JTRAS and decremental JTRAS perform close to optimal JTRAS in BER and spectral efficiency. In the sense of practical scenarios, adaptive JTRAS can be employed to well tradeoff performance and computational complexity.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of normalized SNR based proportional fair scheduling with partial feedback information for multiuser MIMO-OFDMA systems. The closed form expression on the downlink capacity of the selective partial CQI feedback scheme is derived and its asymptotic behavior is investigated. From the performance analysis and numerical results, it is found that the optimal growth rate of downlink capacity can be achieved with bounded average feedback overhead irrespective of the number of users.

  • In this paper, we evaluate system performance and propose signal separation and detection when a user with one antenna shares the co-channel together with a user with two space-time coded antennas. The proposed technique can identify co-channel users by an interference cancellation method and detect the signals by maximum likelihood method. Simulation results show that the shortcoming of the Minimum Mean-Squared Error technique which can be applied two users with the same number of antenna but can not applied for heterogeneous MIMO users with the different number of antennas. Also, we apply the proposed scheme to OFDM system and evaluate the system performance. By simulations, we identify that the performance of the proposed system is the same as that of the existing single antenna users and improves the performance of the two-antenna MIMO users.

  • In this paper, we develop space-time(ST) Rake receivers for Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access(TD-SCDMA) base stations(BS). The beamforming of BS transforms the uplink MIMO channel space into many sub-sectors' channels to be nearly orthogonal, thus, well established 1-D Rake technology can be used to TD-SCDMA base station to construct ST Rake, which simplified the system's implementation as well as enlarged users' capacity by the beamforming. The construction and capacity of MIMO sub-sectors by multi-beamforming have been presented. The proposed ST Rake algorithm include the multi-beamforming algorithm for MIMO sub-sectors and classical 1-D Rake algorithm. The calculating formulas for interference plus noise ratio(SINR) and bit error rate(BER) have been derived. Simulations verify that the proposed ST Rake receiver for BS is effective, and the BS systems can get higher system capacity and can be of better performance than presented TD-SCDMA systems.
