  • For multi-cell environments, coordinated random beamforming technique in multiuser MIMO(multiple-input multiple-output) broadcast channel is considered. In order to mitigate severe interference at receivers, the multi-cell environments might require complex transmitter and receiver design because the scheduler decision based on full channel state information (CSI) in one cell must be intertwined with decision made by other cells' CSI. With limited CSI, however, this paper considers a scheme of randomizing transmitters' beamforming but being coordinated with other cell transmitters. The transmitters in each cell share random beamforming patterns and schedule data transmission within coherent scheduling period. The corandomized beams allow the users to be selected with the highest SINRs even in multi-cell environments. We analyze the performance of the proposed scheme. And numerical results show that the scheme achieves better performance than the conventional random beamforming when applying to multi-cell environments.

  • In this paper, the reception performance of spatial modulation multiple-output multiple-input (MIMO) is analyzed for high speed terrestrial broadcasting. The MIMO scheme is required to reduce the inter symbol interference (ISI) and spatial correlation. The spatial modulation scheme solves the problem of ISI, but the spatial correlation degrades the reception performance of SM scheme. The space-time block coded spatial modulation (STBC-SM) is combined the SM system with space-time block code (STBC) for reducing the effects of the spatial correlation. However, the STBC-SM scheme degrades the spectral efficiency by transmitting same data in the two symbol period. The double space-time transmit diversity with spatial modulation (DSTTD-SM) scheme transmits the data with full antenna combination. To adapt these SM MIMO systems into the terrestrial broadcasting system, the reception performance is analyzed using computer simulation in SUI channel environments.

  • Recently, spatial modulation (SM) schemes are considered to improve the reception performance in spatially correlated channel environments. SM schemes utilize a switching method between multiple transmitters to reduce the correlation among multiple transmitters to reduce the correlation of each received signals and can support transmission additional bits using antenna combinations without extra bandwidth. Therefore, SM schemes can overcome correlation interference of conventional MIMO in urban wireless channels. However, the performance comparisons between SM schemes are not yet performed in correlated urban wireless channels. In this paper, some representative SM schemes are compared and a suitable SM-MIMO system in correlated urban wireless channels is proposed.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive mode switching algorithm between two strategies in multiple antenna cellular networks:A single-user mode and a multi-user mode for the broadcast channel. If full channel state information is available at the base station, it is known that a multi user transmission strategy would outperform all single-user transmission strategies. In the absence of full side information, it is unclear what the capacity achieving method is, and thus there are few criteria to decide which of the myriad possible methods performs best given a system configuration. We compare a single user transmission and a multi user transmission with linear receivers in this paper where the transmitter and the receivers have multiple antennas, and find that neither strategy dom inates the other. There is instead a transition point between the two strategies. Then, the mode switching point is determined both ana lytically and numerically for a multiple antenna cellular downlink with correlation between transmit antennas.

  • We develop a low complexity cooperative diversity protocol for low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) based wireless sensor networks. A cross layer approach is used to obtain spatial diversity in the physical layer. In this paper, a simple modification in clustering algorithm of the LEACH protocol is proposed to exploit virtual multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) based user cooperation. In lieu of selecting a single cluster-head at network layer, we proposed M cluster-heads in each cluster to obtain a diversity order of M in long distance communication. Due to the broadcast nature of wireless transmission, cluster-heads are able to receive data from sensor nodes at the same time. This fact ensures the synchronization required to implement a virtual MIMO based space time block code (STBC) in cluster-head to sink node transmission. An analytical method to evaluate the energy consumption based on BER curve is presented. Analysis and simulation results show that proposed cooperative LEACH protocol can save a huge amount of energy over LEACH protocol with same data rate, bit error rate, delay and bandwidth requirements. Moreover, this proposal can achieve higher order diversity with improved spectral efficiency compared to other virtual MIMO based protocols.

  • The study on interference channel is very important information theoretically and many studies have been done on it. However, even in the simplest case, even in the case of two user interfering channels, the channel capacity is not yet known except in special cases. Recently, research on the multiplexing gain that shows the tendency of the transmission rate in the high signal to noise ratio (SNR) band has been actively carried out, instead of accurately grasping the channel capacity. Obtaining optimal multiplexing gain can reveal trends in channel capacity at high signal-to-noise ratio bands. In an interfering channel with two users, the best multiplexing gain can be obtained by eliminating the interference. However, recent research shows that when the number of users is more than three, the optimal multiplexing gain can not be obtained only by zero forcing and a new technique called interference sorting is needed. There are two types of interference sorting techniques. Beamforming A method of effectively separating signals and interference by properly selecting matrices and constructing structured codes using rational numbers and irrational numbers. The interference alignment technique can achieve optimal multiplexing gain in various environments such as interference channel, X channel, compound broadcast channel, and multi hop network for multi source multi destination. In recent years, it has also been applied to distributed storage. • We investigate lattice-reduction-aided precoding techniques for multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels. When assuming full knowledge of the channel state information only at the transmitter, a vector perturbation (VP) is a promising precoding scheme that approaches sum capacity and has simple receiver. However, its encoding is nondeterministic polynomial time (NP)-hard problem. Vector perturbation using lattice reduction algorithms can remarkably reduce its encoding complexity. In this paper, we propose a vector perturbation scheme using Seysen's lattice reduction (VP-SLR) with simultaneously reducing primal basis and dual one. Simulation results show that the proposed VP-SLR has better bit error rate (BER) and larger capacity than vector perturbation with Lenstra-Lenstra-Lovasz lattice reduction (VP-LLL) in addition to less encoding complexity.

  • In this paper, we propose a wireless transmission scheme that maximizes transmission efficiency per frequency bandwidth in a single carrier modulation scheme. The proposed scheme employs a decision directed channel tracking technique to remove both pilot signal and the guard interval signal between symbols in frames. It performs a raised cosine pulse shaping function with an roll-off factor of 0.05. In addition, 2×2 multiple input and multiple output using two polarized antennas is applied and both equalization and signal separation are performed in the frequency domain. The wireless modem with this technology confirms that the transmission speed of up to 63.3Mbps is achieved under the 5MHz frequency bandwidth

  • In this paper, we propose transceiver design strategies for the two-cell multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) interfering broadcast channel where inter-cell interference (ICI) exists in addition to inter-user interference (IUI). We first formulate the generalized zero-forcing interference alignment (ZF-IA) method based on the alignment of IUI and ICI in multi-dimensional subspace. We then devise a minimum weighted-mean-square-error (WMSE) method based on "regularizing" the precoders and decoders of the generalized ZF-IA scheme. In contrast to the existing weighted-sum-rate-maximizing transceiver, our method does not require an iterative calculation of the optimal weights. Because of this, the proposed scheme, while not designed specially to maximize the sum-rate, is computationally efficient and achieves a faster convergence compared to the known weighed-sum-rate maximizing scheme. Through analysis and simulation, we show the effectiveness of the proposed regularized ZF-IA scheme.

  • In this paper, we propose a multi-cell cooperation method for broadcast packet data services in the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based cellular system with multiple transmit antennas. In the proposed method, to transmit two streams of spatially demultiplexed or transmit diversity coded symbols over a number of transmit antennas, we divide a coded packet into multiple subparts to which different cell groups and antenna pairs are assigned. The proposed method enhances the diversity order by transforming the channel frequency responses of two symbol streams in each subpart of the broadcast packet. The increase in diversity of the proposed method is shown with the outage probability under various configurations.
