With the advent of the fifth-generation (5G) era, Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relay systems have experienced the rapid development. Recently, the performance analysis models of Massive MIMO relay systems have been proposed, which are mostly based on Rayleigh fading channels. In order to create a more suitable model for 5G Internet of Things scenarios, our study is based on the Rician fading channels, where line-of-sight (LOS) path exists in the channels. In this paper, we assume the channel state information (CSI) is perfect. In this case, we use statistical information to derive the analytical exact closed-form expression for the achievable sum rate of the uplink for the Massive MIMO two-hop relay system over Rician fading channels. Moreover, considering the different communication scenarios, we derive the analytical exact closed-form expression for the achievable sum rates of the uplink for other three scenarios. Finally, based on these expressions, we make simulations and analyze the performance under different transmit powers and Rician-factors, which provides a theoretical basis and reference for further research.
A 2 Gbit/s visible-light communication (VLC) scheme using time-frequency color-clustered (TFCC) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) based on blue, cyan, yellow, and red (BCYR) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is presented. In the proposed scheme, BCYR LEDs are employed to form four different color clusters. Data transmission using the four color clusters is performed in MIMO, so that the scheme achieves a very high speed of data transmission. Moreover, the scheme employs the TFCC strategy to yield high performance in terms of bit error rate (BER). TFCC operates in such a way that the original data and the two delayed versions of the data are multiplied by orthogonal frequencies and then transmitted using a specific color of the BCYR LED. In the receiver, color filters are employed to detect the data transmitted from the desired cluster. Selection combining (SC) is also performed to yield a diversity effect within each color cluster, to further improve the performance. Performance evaluation demonstrates that the proposed TFCC MIMO VLC offers a data rate of 2 Gbit/s and a bit error rate of 4×10-5, at an Eb/No value of merely 3 dB.

In wireless communication, the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system is a well-known approach to improve the reliability as well as the data rate. In MIMO systems, channel state information (CSI) is typically required at the receiver to detect transmitted signals; however, in practical systems, the CSI is imperfect and contains errors, which affect the overall system performance. In this paper, we propose a novel maximum likelihood (ML) scheme for MIMO systems that is robust to the CSI errors. We apply an optimization method to estimate an instantaneous covariance matrix of the CSI errors in order to improve the detection performance. Furthermore, we propose the employment of the list sphere decoding (LSD) scheme to reduce the computational complexity, which is capable of efficiently finding a reduced set of the candidate symbol vectors for the computation of the covariance matrix of the CSI errors. An iterative detection scheme is also proposed to further improve the detection performance.

Multi-User Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) technology has recently attracted significant attention from academia and industry because of it is increasingly important role in improving networks' capacity and data rate. Moreover, MU-MIMO systems for the Fifth Generation (5G) have already been researched. High Quality of Service (QoS) and efficient operations at the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer have become key requirements. In this paper, we propose a downlink MU-MIMO MAC protocol based on adaptive Channel State Information (CSI) feedback (called MMM-A) for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). A modified CSMA/CA mechanism using new frame formats is adopted in the proposed protocol. Specifically, the CSI is exchanged between stations (STAs) in an adaptive way, and a packet selection strategy which can guarantee a fairer QoS for scenarios with differentiated traffic is also included in the MMM-A protocol. We then derive the expressions of the throughput and access delay, and analyze the performance of the protocol. It is easy to find that the MMM-A protocol outperforms the commonly used protocols in terms of the saturated throughput and access delay through simulation and analysis results.
In this paper, we propose a new jammer suppression algorithm that uses orthogonal waveform space projection (OWSP) processing for a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar system exposed to a jamming signal. Generally, a conventional suppression algorithm based on adaptive beamforming (ABF) needs a covariance matrix composed of the jammer and noise only. By exploiting the orthogonality of the transmitting waveforms of MIMO, we can construct a transmitting waveform space (TWS). Then, using the OWSP processing, we can build a space orthogonal to the TWS that contains no SOI. By excluding the SOI from the received signal, even in the case that contains the SOI and jamming signal, the proposed algorithm makes it possible to evaluate the covariance matrix for ABF. We applied the proposed OWSP processing to suppressing the jamming signal in bistatic MIMO radar. We verified the performance of the proposed algorithm by comparing the SINR loss to that of the ideal covariance matrix composed of the jammer and noise only. We also derived the computational complexity of the proposed algorithm and compared the estimation of the DOD and DOA using the SOI with those using the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) algorithm.

In this paper, the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with a precoder is considered in the transmit-correlated Rayleigh channels. We specifically target the MIMO system employing the minimum mean square error receivers. Based on random matrix theory, we first present a direct and generalized formulation for deriving a probability density function (PDF) of the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). Then, we derive the accurate closed-form SINR PDFs for a small number of transmit and receive antennas. Based on the SINR PDFs, tight closed-form approximations of the symbol error rate (SER) are derived. Our analysis suggests that the SER approximations can be used to accurately estimate the error probabilities or as a useful tool for the system design.

Maximum Likelihood (ML) detection is well known to exhibit better bit-error-rate (BER) than many other detectors for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel. However, ML detection has been shown a difficult problem due to its NP-hard problem. It means that there is no known algorithm which can find the optimal solution in polynomial-time. In this paper, Semi-Definite relaxation (SDR) is iteratively applied to ML detection problem. The probability distribution can be obtained by survival eigenvector out of the dominant eigenvalue term of the optimal solution. The probability distribution which is yielded by SDR is recurred to the received signal. Our approach can reach to nearly ML performance.

In this paper, we propose a new transmit diversity technique for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems to improve the link level performance of open-loop systems. By cyclically applying a predetermined set of preceding weight vectors, artificially induced fluctuation is created to achieve additional diversity gain in flat fading channels. To design the set of the precoding vectors, we exploit the knowledge on the distribution of near optimum Preceding vectors observed in a beamforming scheme based on the rotation transformations. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed open-loop diversity scheme with an arbitrary number of transmit antennas achieves a full diversity gain with computational complexity comparable to a single-input single-output (SISO) system.
This paper presents a novel user selection method based on the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), which is approximated using limited feedback data at the base stations (BSs) of multiple user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems. In the proposed system, the codebook vector index, the quantization error obtained from the correlation between the measured channel and the codebook vector, and the measured value of the largest singular value are fed back from each user to the BS. The proposed method not only generates precoding vectors that are orthogonal to the precoding vectors of the previously selected users and are highly correlated with the codebook vector of each user but also adopts the quantization error in approximating the SINR, which eventually provides a significantly more accurate SINR than the conventional SINR-based user selection techniques. Computer simulations show that the proposed method enhances the sum rate of the conventional SINR-based methods by at least 2.4 (2.62) bps/Hz when the number of transmit antennas and number of receive antennas per user terminal is 4 and 1(2), respectively, with 100 candidate users and an SNR of 30 dB.
We investigate the connectivity of fading wireless ad-hoc networks with a pair of novel connectivity metrics. Our first metric looks at the problem of connectivity relying on the outage capacity of MIMO channels. Our second metric relies on a probabilistic treatment of the symbol error rates for such channels. We relate both capacity and symbol error rates to the characteristics of the underlying communication system such as antenna configuration, modulation, coding, and signal strength measured in terms of signal-to-interference-noise-ratio. For each metric of connectivity, we also provide a simplified treatment in the case of ergodic fading channels. In each case, we assume a pair of nodes are connected if their bi-directional measure of connectivity is better than a given threshold. Our analysis relies on the central limit theorem to approximate the distribution of the combined undesired signal affecting each link of an ad-hoc network as Gaussian. Supported by our simulation results, our analysis shows that (1) a measure of connectivity purely based on signal strength is not capable of accurately capturing the connectivity phenomenon, and (2) employing multiple antenna mobile nodes improves the connectivity of fading ad-hoc networks.
