Development of Crop Information System using Satellite Images

  • A computer system for crop information was developed using Visual Basic and ArcGIS VBA. The system is operated on ArcGIS 8.3 with Microsoft Access MDB. Landsat +ETM, KOMPSAT-1 EOC, ASTER VNIR and IKONOS panchromatic (Pan) and multi-spectral (MIS) images were included in the system to extract agricultural land use items identifiable at various spatial resolutions of images. Agriculture related data inventories using crop cover information such as texture and average pixel value of each band based on crop cultivation calendar were designed and implemented. Three IKONOS images were loaded in the system to show crop cover characteristics such as rice, pear, grape, red pepper, garlic, and surface water cover of reservoir with field surveys. GIS layers such as DEM (Digital Elevation Model), stream, road, soil, land use and administration boundary were prepared to understand the related characteristics and identify the location easily.

  • ODA finance in the water sector has decreased after reaching a peak in 2012 although total ODA commitments have steadily increased according to OECD DAC data. However, climate finance in the water sector has increased so much since 2013 according to 7 MDB Joint report on Climate Finance. Water, especially, in climate change is the main issue for adaptation, and the total finance in the water sector reached 50% of the international public adaptation finance in 2016. However, the procedures for approval and the requirements of the proposals for climate funds are different from those for development finance. Notwithstanding the changes in money flows in the water sector, most korean engineering consulting firms in the water infrastructure area are not ready to win the funds relating to climate change. Therefore, It is important to understand a variety of sources of climate funds, characteristics, funding scale on each purpose and procedures for approval. Korean government needs to provide the firms the opportunities to buildup experiences by getting involved in climate adaptation projects with the financial support for developing PPFs, concept notes, and proposals.

Analysis of Hemocyte-specific Gene Expression from Bombyx mori

  • A previous data was provided information for tissuespecific expression genes by means of whole-genome oligonucleotide microarray in the silkworm. We analyzed the tissue-specific expression patterns in the hemocyte tissue on 5 days of 5th instar larvae during the development of $B.$ $mori$. Total 5 candidates pick out from the $Bombyx$ $mori$ Microarray Database (BmMDB; http://silkworm.swu.edu.cn/microarray). To verify the hemocyte-specific expression, we analyzed by semi-quantitative and real-time quantitative RT-PCR using the highly expressed endogenous $Actin$ RNA as an intrinsic reference. In this study, we confirmed that one gene-sw17255- out of 5 candidates expressed in the hemocyte tissue, which was consistent with the previous data. Circulating hemocytes in the body fluid of the $B.$ $mori$ are most powerful target organ for producing biomaterials. We need further studies to find hemocyte-specific promoter region from sw17255 gene. Finally, this result can be applied in creating transgenic silkworms as a biomedical insect.

Modulation Recognition of BPSK/QPSK Signals based on Features in the Graph Domain

  • The performance of existing recognition algorithms for binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) signals degrade under conditions of low signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). Hence, a novel recognition algorithm based on features in the graph domain is proposed in this study. First, the power spectrum of the squared candidate signal is truncated by a rectangular window. Thereafter, the graph representation of the truncated spectrum is obtained via normalization, quantization, and edge construction. Based on the analysis of the connectivity difference of the graphs under different hypotheses, the sum of degree (SD) of the graphs is utilized as a discriminate feature to classify BPSK and QPSK signals. Moreover, we prove that the SD is a Schur-concave function with respect to the probability vector of the vertices (PVV). Extensive simulations confirm the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, and its superiority to the listed model-driven-based (MDB) algorithms in terms of recognition performance under low SNRs and computational complexity. As it is confirmed that the proposed method reduces the computational complexity of existing graph-based algorithms, it can be applied in modulation recognition of radar or communication signals in real-time processing, and does not require any prior knowledge about the training sets, channel coefficients, or noise power.

Development of QGIS plugin GUI for the GRM Model and Free Open (GRM 모형의 QGIS Plugin GUI 개발 및 모형 공개)

  • 본 논문에서는 분포형 강우-유출 모형인 GRM(Grid based Rainfall-runoff Model)의 확장성과 편의성 향상을 위한 소프트웨어 개발에 대해서 기술하였다. 본 연구에서는 크게 3가지를 수행하였다. 첫 번째는 기존의 GRM은 HyGIS, MapWindow GIS 등과 같은 GIS 소프트웨어 및 Microsoft MDB와 코드 수준에서 통합된 형태로 개발되었으며, 이러한 특성은 GRM을 이용한 다양한 응용시스템 개발시 제약 조건으로 작용하였다. 본 연구에서는 GRM 모형을 GIS 및 데이터베스와 코드 수준에서 분리하여 GRMCore.dll을 개발하였다. GRMCore.dll은 콘솔 모드 및 GUI에서 유출해석을 실행할 수 있는 소프트웨어와 실시간 유출해석시스템 등과 같이 유출 해석을 위한 다양한 응용 소프트웨어 개발에 공통적으로 활용될 수 있다. 두 번째는 최근 들어 세계적으로 가장 많이 사용되고 있는 오픈소스 GIS 인 QGIS의 plugin으로 GRM 모형의 GUI(QGIS-GRM)를 개발하였으며, GRM 모형의 입력자료 구축을 위해 TauDEM을 이용해서 Drainage Tool을 개발하였다. Drainage Tool에서는 격자별 흐름방향, 하천망, 유역 등과 같은 수문학적 공간정보를 DEM을 이용하여 구축할 수 있다. 세 번째는 개발된 소프트웨어를 오픈소스로 공개하였다. 공개 대상은 GRM 모형, QGIS-GRM, Drainage Tool 등이며, 각 소프트웨어에 대한 매뉴얼을 포함하고 있다. 소스코드의 공개는 세계적으로 널리 이용되고 있는 오픈소스 플랫폼인 Github(https://github.com/floodmodel/)를 이용하였다. 본 연구를 통해서 기존에는 특정 소프트웨어에 코드 수준에서 의존적이던 GRM 모형의 독립성을 향상시켰으며, 이를 통해 다양한 응용 소프트웨어 개발에 대한 적용성을 높일 수 있었다. 또한 QGIS 기반의 GUI 개발, 모형 입력자료 구축 도구의 개발, 개발된 소프트웨어의 오픈소스화 등을 통해서 사용자들이 좀 더 쉽게 GRM 모형을 활용할 수 있게 하였다.

The Development of On-Line Statistics Program for Radiation Oncology (방사선종양학과 On-line 통계처리프로그램의 개발)

  • Purpose : By developing on-line statistics program to record the information of radiation oncology to share the information with internet. It is possible to supply basic reference data for administrative plans to improve radiation oncology. Materials and methods : The information of radiation oncology statistics had been collected by paper forms about 52 hospitals in the past. Now, we can input the data by internet web browsers. The statistics program used windows NT 4.0 operation system, Internal Information Server 4.0 (IIS4.0) as a web server and the Microsoft Access MDB. We used Structured Query Language (SQL), Visual Basic, VBScript and JAVAScript to display the statistics according to years and hospitals. Results : This program shows present conditions about man power, research, therapy machines, technics, brachytherapy, clinic statistics, radiation safety management, institution, quality assurance and radioisotopes in radiation oncology department. The database consists of 38 inputs and 6 outputs windows. Statistical output windows can be increased continuously according to user's need. Conclusion : We have developed statistics program to process all of the data in department of radiation oncology for reference information. Users easily could input the data by internet web browsers and share the information.
