  • Low voltage circuit breakers which interrupt rapidly and raise the reliability of power supply are widly used in power distribution systems. In the paper, it was investigated how much Interrupting capability was improved by correcting the shape of the contact system in molded case circuit breaker(below MCCB), Prior to the interrupting testing, it was necessary for the optimum design to analyze magnetic forces on the contact system, generated by current and flux density. This paper presents both our compuational analysis and test results contact system in MCCB.

  • 본 논문은 가정에서 사용하는 중 저압용 차단기의 차단 능력을 향상시키기 위한 방법에 초점을 두었다. MCCB의 차단 능력은 MCCB내부 부품들의 재료나 형상 그리고 배열 등 여러 요소에의해 결정된다. 특히 본 논문에서는 MCCB 그리드의 형상을 변화하여 소호시간을 단축하는 방법을 제안하였다. 사고에 의해 차단기가 작동하게 되면 차단기 내부 접점에서 Arc가 발생하게 된다. 이때 발생된 Arc에의한 2차 사고를 방지하기위해, Arc를 빠른 시간에 소호시켜야한다. Arc가 발생하게 되면 Arc내부는 도체처럼 전류가 흐르게 되는데 이 전류에 의해 소호부의 그리드를 따라 자속이 형성된다. 그리드의 형상에 따라 Arc 기둥 주변에 불균형적인 자속이 유도되고 이 불균형한 자속에 의해 Arc 주변에는 불균형한 로렌츠힘이 발생하여 일정 방향으로 힘이 작용하게 된다. 이때 발생한 로렌츠힘 에의해 Arc 기둥은 그리드 방향으로 소호된다. 분석을 위해 유한요소법을 이용한 시뮬레이션을 사용하였고 그리드 형상 변화를 통해 일정방향으로 로렌츠힘이 변화 전보다 증가한 결과를 얻었다. 본 논문의 내용에 추가로 그리드 내부에서 자속의 이동을 효율적으로 전달하기위한 방법을 연구하면 더 큰 로렌츠힘을 얻어 소호시간을 단축시킬 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

D대학 수변전설비의 고장모드 영향 분석 (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis for Electric Power Installations of D University)

  • The purpose of this paper is to carry out Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and use criticality in order to determine risk priority number of the components of electric power installations in Engineering college building of D university. In risk priority number, GROUP A had 7 failure modes; more specifically, Transfomer had 4 modes, Filter(C)(1 mode), LA(1 mode), and CB(MCCB)(1 mode), and thus 4 components had failure modes. In terms of criticality, high-grade group a total of 16 failure modes, and 7 components-LA(1 mode), CB(MCCB)(1 mode), MOF(2 modes), PT(1 mode), Transformer(7 modes), Cable(3 modes), and Filter(C)(1 mode)-had failure modes. Comparison of risk priority number and criticality was made. The components which had high risk priority number and high criticality were Transformer, Filter(C), LA, and CB(MCCB). The components which had high criticality were MOF and cable. In particular, Transformer(RPN: 4 modes, Criticality: 7 modes) was chosen as an intensive management component.

Development of 460V/225A/50㎄ Contact System in Current Limiting Molded Case Circuit Breakers

  • Low voltage circuit breakers are widely used in power distribution systems to interrupt fault current rapidly and to assure the reliability of the power supply. This paper is focused on understanding the interrupting capability, more specifically of the contacts and the arc runner, based on the shape of the contact system in the current molded case circuit breaker (hereafter MCCB). Moreover, in order to improve the interrupting capability of the circuit breaker, the estimation and analysis of the interrupting capability, based on the 3-D magnetic flux analysis, were developed. Furthermore, this paper also presents results of the estimation and analysis of the interrupting capability when applied to different model breakers. In addition, this paper analyzes the efficiency of the interrupting tests by forming false current paths consisting of a three-division cascade arc runner in the contact system. With regards to the interrupting test, there is a need to assure that the optimum design required to analyze the electromagnetic forces of the contact system generated by the current and flux density be present. Based on the results of this study, this paper presents both computational analysis and test results for the newly developed MCCB 460V/225A/50㎄ contact system.

가속 열화 시험에 따른 저압용 차단기의 물리적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Physical Characteristics of the Low-voltage Circuit Breaker Based on the Accelerated Degradation Test)

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of insulation resistance and operating time based on an accelerated degradation test of a low-voltage circuit breaker. The experimental sample used a molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) and an earth leakage circuit breaker (ELCB). After measuring the insulation resistance of the circuit breakers, the leakage current was affected by an external rather than an internal structure. Furthermore, the insulation resistance of the circuit breakers with accelerated degradation was measured using a Megger insulation tester. In the accelerated degradation test, aging times of five, ten, 15, and 20 years were applied according to a temperature derived using the Arrhenius equation. Circuit breakers with an equivalent life of ten, 15, and 20 years had increased insulation resistance compared to those with less degradation time. In particular, the circuit breaker with an equivalent life of ten years had the highest insulation resistance. Component analysis of the circuit breaker manufactured through an accelerated degradation test confirmed that the timing of the increase in insulation resistance and the time of additive loss were the same. Finally, after analyzing the operating time of the circuit breakers with degradation, it was confirmed that the MCCB did not change, but the ELCB breaker failed.

  • The behaviour of contactors protected by arcs under short-circuit currents is analysed using a simple model to represent the electric circuit and the contactor. In most cases, the protection of contactors against short-circuit currents is entrusted to fuses. Fuses are suitable for preventing excessive damage to the contactor, or parts of the contactor, under short-circuit conditions. In particular, they are capable of limiting the thermal and electrodynamic stresses which can lead to arcing or welding together of the contacts of a contactor. 3Meter Disc Buoy with Satellite Communications Infrastructure

  • Moored ocean buoys are technically feasible approach for making sustained time series observation in the oceans and will be an important component of any long-term ocean observing system. The 3M disc buoy carried Zeno 3200, MCCB, Orbcomm, Global Star and Bluetooth module. The deployments have relied on Orbcomm and Global Star as the primary satellite communications system. In addition to detailing our practical experience in the use of Orbcomm and Global Star as high latitudes, we will present some of scientific sensor results regarding real-time oceanographic and meteorological parameters such as wind speed, wave height and etc. In this paper we present the design and implementation of a small-scale buoy sensor network. One of the major challenges is that the network is hard to access after its deployment and hence both hardware and software must be robust and reliable.

  • The latest development flow of MCCB(Molded Case Circuit Breaker) is largely separated from which are high capability of interrupting compact of size and multi-ability in functions. As follow of development of industrial system. MCCB which are including communication function and having a ultimate interrupting capability is required in electrical system. to attain an effective limitation of the peak let-through current and the let-through energy, the arc has to move rapidly off the contacts and has to increase the arc voltage which mainly effect to interrupt. In this paper. we made high performance circuit breaker which including current limiting unit which is attached to the main which is simulated by CAE tool that are repulsion force and mechanical dynamics after that we tested and finally selected optimized for circuit breaker.
