본 논문에서는 기존의 인터넷상에서의 멀티캐스트 프로토콜의 충돌 없는 전개를 위 절대적으로 필요한 혼잡 제어의 주요 특징을 집어 본다. 혼잡 제어시 반드시 고려되어야 할 사항은 성능(Throughtput)과 공정성(Fairness)이다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 TCP기반 흐름과 멀티캐스트 그룹기반 흐름간의 상호 공정성(Intra- Fairness)과 멀태스트 그룹내의 흐름간의 공정성(Intra- Fairness)를 지원하기 위해 수반되는 문제점들에 대해서 이해한다. 전자의 경우, 흔히 TCP-friendly 제어라 하여 많이 연구가 진행중에 있다. 이에 본 논문은 후자에 문제의 초점을 맞춰, 관련 문제를 이해, 분석해 보도록 한다.

최근 Mbone을 통한 다양한 회의 시스템들이 등장하고 있다. 이들 회의 시스템은 주로 영상회의 시스템과 음성회의 시스템으로 이루어져 있으며, 사람들은 영상보다 음성에 더 민감하기 때문에 음성품질이 영상품질보다 더 중요하다. 현재 인터넷은 QoS(Quality Of Service)를 제공하지 않기 때문에, 인터넷을 사용하는 음성 회의 시스템들도 근본적으로 품질을 보장할 수 없다. 따라서 음성품질을 향상시키기 위한 다양한 방법들이 연구되었고, 대표적인 기법으로 중복정보(redundant information) 복구기법이 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 중복정보 복구기법을 개선한 동적 중복정보 복구기법을 제안한다. 이 기법은 네트워크의 상태에 따라 중복정보의 양을 조절하기 때문에 중복정보의 효율을 향상시킬 수 있다. 실제 인터넷을 통한 실험에서 평균 9%의 성능향상이 있었다.

In this paper, we describe the design, implementation and evaluation for a multimedia conferencing system with intramedia and intermedia synchronization support between audio and video. The synchronization mechanism proposed here is capable of dynamically adapting to various network conditions thus providing an optimized QoS. In realizing the system based on this mechanism, NeVoT on Mbone is used for audio and VIC for video. Furthermore a synchromization controller is designed and realized with a unique process in supporting intermedia synchronization. Each media agents handling its media stream are modified with intramedia synchronization function. And a communicative function between media agents and synchronization controller is added as well for intermedia synchronization function. Each media agents function reports its buffering status to the synchronization control process which in turn send out optimized buffering delay value thus supporting intermedia synchronization. The realized system is configured and tested on Ethernet and ATM network where performance measurements were performed and its effective synchronization support has been assured.

최근 인터넷에서는 Mbone, 인터넷 폰과 같이 End-to-End QoS (Quality of Service) 보장을 요구하는 많은 실시간 멀티미디어 응용들이 출현하고 있다[1]. 인터넷 표준 기구인 IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force)에서는 과거 수년간, 이러한 실시간 멀티미디어 응용들을 지원하기 위한 Integrated Service 구조를 개발하고 자원 예약 프로토콜로서 RSVP (Resource Reservation Protocol)를 개발하였다. 하지만, flow를 기본 단위로 하여 자원을 예약하고 패킷을 처리하는 Integrated Service 모델은 인터넷에 광역적으로 구축되기에는 너무 복잡한 것으로 드러났다. 이에 따라, 큰 규모의 인터넷 전달망에 적용할 경우 scalability 문제를 안고 있는 Integrated Service 모델의 대안 또는 보완책으로, Differentiated Service 구조가 작년부터 IETF에서 활발히 논의되어 왔다. [2,3,4]. 본 논문에서는 Differentiated Service의 구조 및 구성요소의 개념을 살펴보고, RSVP/Integrated Service 구조와 어떻게 공존하여 광역 인터넷에서 End-to-End QoS를 제공할 수 있을지를 고찰한 다음, 향후 기술 발전을 전망한다.

Multimedia services(i.e. teleconferencing and Video on demand) have been developed on MBone. The video and audio data of them require Real-Time service using QoS(Quality of Service) guarantees. RSVP(Resource reSerVation Protocol) on the Internet has been suggested to support QoS guarantees. But currently, it has two problems : complexity and scalability. To solve these problems, this paper describes the design and implement of teleconferencing system with QoS guarantees by simplifying the resource reservation processing to solve the RSVP's complexity and scalability.

The next generation internet protocol, IPv6, have been developed by the IETF according to the requirements of enhancement of classic IP protocols to satisfy the lack of Internet address space as well as the support of multimedia applications. This paper presents an implementation of IPv6 protocols on the Windows NT kernel environment. In this work, we developed and also tested the basic functions, required for operating as an IPv6 host, such as IPv6 header processing, IPv6 address handling, control message processing, group membership processing and neighbor discovery functions. The implemented IPv6 protocol driver module is connected to the lower network interface card through NDIS, a standard network interface. And this driver module that operates within kernel, is implemented as it is connected to upper user applications and lower NDIS using dispatch and lower-edge functions. The developed IPv6 protocol driver can provide not only enhanced performance because it is implemented in kernel mode, but also convenience of usage to the application developers because it gives user interface as a dynamic link library.
