Network virtualization promises to play a dominant role in shaping the future Internet by overcoming the Internet ossification problem. However, due to the injecting of additional virtualization layers into the network architecture, several new security risks are introduced by the network virtualization. Although traditional protection mechanisms can help in virtualized environment, they are not guaranteed to be successful and may incur high security overheads. By performing the virtual network (VN) embedding in a security-aware way, the risks exposed to both the virtual and substrate networks can be minimized, and the additional techniques adopted to enhance the security of the networks can be reduced. Unfortunately, existing embedding algorithms largely ignore the widespread security risks, making their applicability in a realistic environment rather doubtful. In this paper, we attempt to address the security risks by integrating the security factors into the VN embedding. We first abstract the security requirements and the protection mechanisms as numerical concept of security demands and security levels, and the corresponding security constraints are introduced into the VN embedding. Based on the abstraction, we develop three security-risky modes to model various levels of risky conditions in the virtualized environment, aiming at enabling a more flexible VN embedding. Then, we present a mixed integer linear programming formulation for the VN embedding problem in different security-risky modes. Moreover, we design three heuristic embedding algorithms to solve this problem, which are all based on the same proposed node-ranking approach to quantify the embedding potential of each substrate node and adopt the k-shortest path algorithm to map virtual links. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our algorithms.

High-definition, geo-referenced digital climate maps can be produced by applying watershed-specific modules to adjust synoptic observations for local effects including cold air drainage. Since there is no information available on North Korean watersheds, existing geospatial technology for digital climate mapping cannot be transferred to North Korea. We applied a watershed extraction algorithm based on ArcHydro to the North Korean portion of ASTER GDEM and utilized geographical information on major rivers and mountains to adjust the products. Proposed hydrologic zoning system for North Korean watersheds consists of 21 river basins, 93 stream basins and 885 catchments. Combined with the existing 840 South Korean hydrologic units, we now have a complete set of 1,725 catchments which may serve a framework for digital climate modeling across whole land area of the Korean Peninsula.
In this paper, we derive i) a function to estimate snow cover fraction (SCF) from a MODIS satellite image that has a wide observational area and short re-visit period and ii) a function to determine snow depth from the estimated SCF map. The SCF equation is important for estimating the snow depth from optical images. The proposed SCF equation is defined using the Gaussian function. We found that the Gaussian function was a better model than the linear equation for explaining the relationship between the normalized difference snow index (NDSI) and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and SCF. An accuracy test was performed using 38 MODIS images, and the achieved root mean square error (RMSE) was improved by approximately 7.7 % compared to that of the linear equation. After the SCF maps were created using the SCF equation from the MODIS images, a relation function between in-situ snow depth and MODIS-derived SCF was defined. The RMSE of the MODIS-derived snow depth was approximately 3.55 cm when compared to the in-situ data. This is a somewhat large error range in the Republic of Korea, which generally has less than 10 cm of snowfall. Therefore, in this study, we corrected the calculated snow depth using the relationship between the measured and calculated values for each single image unit. The corrected snow depth was finally recorded and had an RMSE of approximately 2.98 cm, which was an improvement. In future, the accuracy of the algorithm can be improved by considering more varied variables at the same time.
The source current distribution in a heart was reconstructed from the magnetocardiogram (MCG) and its clinical usefulness was demonstrated. MCG was measured using 40-channel superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) gradiometers for a patient of Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome, which has an accessory pathway between the atria and the ventricles. Reconstruction of source current distribution in a plane below the chest surface was performed using minimum norm estimation (MNE) algorithm and truncated singular value decomposition (SVD), In the simulation, we confirmed that the current distributions. which were computed for the test dipoles, represented well the essential feature of the test current configurations, In the current map of WPW syndrome, we observed abnormal currents that would bypass the atrioventricular junction at a delta wave. However, we could not observe such currents any more after the surgery. These results showed that the obtained current distribution using MCG signals is consistent with the electrical activity in a heart and has clinical usefulness.

Processing of the raw LiDAR data requires the high-end processor, because data form is a vector. In contrast, if LiDAR data is converted into a regular grid pattern by filltering, that has advantage of being in a low-cost equipment, because of the simple structure and faster processing speed. Especially, by using grid data classification, such as Quadtree, some of trees and cars are removed, so it has advantage of modeling. Therefore, this study presents the algorithm for automatic extraction of ground points using Quadtree and refion growing method from LiDAR data. In addition, Error analysis was performed based on the 1:5000 digital map of sample area to analyze the classification of ground points. In a result, the ground classification accuracy is over 98%. So it has the advantage of extracting the ground points. In addition, non-ground points, such as cars and tree, are effectively removed as using Quadtree and region growing method.

Uncertainty is ubiquitous in target tracking wireless sensor networks due to environmental noise, randomness of target mobility and other factors. Sensing results are always unreliable. This paper considers unreliability as it occurs in wireless sensor networks and its impact on target-tracking accuracy. Firstly, we map intersection pairwise sensors' uncertain boundaries, which divides the monitor area into faces. Each face has a unique signature vector. For each target localization, a sampling vector is built after multiple grouping samplings determine whether the RSS (Received Signal Strength) for a pairwise nodes' is ordinal or flipped. A Fault-Tolerant Target-Tracking (FTTT) strategy is proposed, which transforms the tracking problem into a vector matching process that increases the tracking flexibility and accuracy while reducing the influence of in-the-filed factors. In addition, a heuristic matching algorithm is introduced to reduce the computational complexity. The fault tolerance of FTTT is also discussed. An extension of FTTT is then proposed by quantifying the pairwise uncertainty to further enhance robustness. Results show FTTT is more flexible, more robust and more accurate than parallel approaches.

Remote sensing which observes repeatedly the whole Earth and GIS-based decision-making technology have been utilized widely in disaster management such as early warning monitoring, damage investigation, emergent rescue and response, rapid recovery etc. In addition, various countermeasures of national level to collect timely satellite imagery in emergency have been considered through the operation of a satellite with onboard multiple sensors as well as the practical joint use of satellite imagery by collaboration with space agencies of the world. In order to respond heavy snowfall disaster occurred on the east coast of the Korean Peninsula in February 2011, snow-covered regions were analyzed and detected in this study through NDSI(Normalized Difference Snow Index) considering reflectance of wavelength for MODIS sensor and change detection algorithm using satellite imagery collected from International Charter. We present the application case of National Disaster Management Institute(NDMI) which supported timely decision-making through GIS spatial analysis with various spatial data and snow cover map.
In this paper, we propose a lava flow simulation program to predict the range of lava flows area and thickness of lava flows during volcanic eruptions. The map information is represented as a 'cell' with observed values per fixed area such as DEM and a lava flow prediction algorithm using a cellular automata model is performed to predict the flow of lava flows. To obtain quantitative data of lava flows, fluid properties of lava flows are defined as Bingham plastic fluid and derived equation is applied to the rules of cellular automata. To verify the program, we use a 30m resolution DEM provided by USGS. We compared simulation results with real lava flows for the Pu'u'O'o crater area in Hawaii, which has erupted since May 24, 2016.

Open biomass burning (excluding biofuels) is an important contributor to air pollution in the Asian region. Estimation of emissions from fires, however, has been problematic, primarily because of uncertainty in the size and location of sources and in their temporal and spatial variability. Hence, more comprehensive tools to estimate wildfire emissions and that can characterize their temporal and spatial variability are needed. Furthermore, an emission processing system that can generate speciated, gridded, and temporally allocated emissions is needed to support air-quality modeling studies over Asia. For these reasons, a biomass-burning emissions modeling system based on satellite imagery was developed to better account for the spatial and temporal distributions of emissions. The BlueSky Framework, which was developed by the USDA Forest Service and US EPA, was used to develop the Asian biomass-burning emissions modeling system. The sub-models used for this study were the Fuel Characteristic Classification System (FCCS), CONSUME, and the Emissions Production Model (EPM). Our domain covers not only Asia but also Siberia and part of central Asia to assess the large boreal fires in the region. The MODIS fire products and vegetation map were used in this study. Using the developed modeling system, biomass-burning emissions were estimated during April and July 2008, and the results were compared with previous studies. Our results show good to fair agreement with those of GFEDv3 for most regions, ranging from 9.7 % in East Asia to 52% in Siberia. The SMOKE modeling system was combined with this system to generate three-dimensional model-ready emissions employing the fire-plume rise algorithm. This study suggests a practicable and maintainable methodology for supporting Asian air-quality modeling studies and to help understand the impact of air-pollutant emissions on Asian air quality.
2D-to-3D video conversion vests 3D effects in a 2D video by generating stereoscopic views using depth cues inherent in the 2D video. This technology would be a good solution to resolve the problem of 3D content shortage during the transition period to the full ripe 3D video era. In this paper, a low-complexity depth generation method for 2D-to-3D video conversion is presented. For temporal consistency in global depth, a pattern-based depth generation method is newly introduced. A low-complexity refinement algorithm for local depth is also provided to improve 3D perception in object regions. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms conventional methods in terms of complexity and subjective quality.
