Fabrication Process and Mechanical Properties of High Volume Fraction SiC Particle Preform (고부피분율 SiC분말 예비성형체의 제조공정과 기계적특성)

  • The fabrication process and mechanical properties of SiC particle prefrrms with high volume fraction ranged 50∼71% were investigated to make metal matrix composites for possible applications as heat sinks in electronic packares. The SiC particle preforms with 50∼71vol% of reinforcement were fabricated by a new modified process named ball milling and pressing method. The SiC particle performs were fabricated by ball milling of SiC particles with single sized of 48${\mu}$m in diameter or two different size of 8${\mu}$m and 48${\mu}$min diameter, with collodal SiO2 as inorgnic binder in distilled water, and the mixed slurries were cold pressed for consolidation into final prefom. The compressive strengths og calcined SiC particle prefoms increased from 20MPa to 155MPa with increasing the content of inorganis binder, temperature and time for calcination. The increase of compressive strength of SiC particle bridge the interfaces of two neighboring SiC particles.

Aerodynamic Design of the KARI Mid-sized Aerostat

  • Aerodynamic shape design of the Mid-sized Aerostat was performed with computational fluid dynamics. Design procedure included determination of hull volume and length, hull shape, tailfin configuration with anhedral and location, tailfin section. For aerodynamic analysis, three dimensional Navier-Stokes equations were applied with Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model. During design procedure, static moment derivatives were mainly considered for the stability of aerostat and structural limitations were also considered for practical application of the designed shape. Aerodynamic analysis of the designed aerostat was carried out and aerodynamic characteristics were compared with those of the TCOM 71m aerostat, one of the most successful commercial aerostats. It was found that the designed KARI Mid-sized Aerostat had better stability characteristics compared to the TCOM 71m aerostat.

Span limit and parametric analysis of cable-stayed bridges

  • The span record of cable-stayed bridges has exceeded 1,000 m, which makes research on the maximum possible span length of cable-stayed bridges an important topic in the engineering community. In this paper, span limit is discussed from two perspectives: the theoretical span limit determined by the strength-to-density ratio of the cable and girder, and the engineering span limit, which depends not only on the strength-to-density ratio of materials but also on the actual loading conditions. Closed form equations of both theoretical and engineering span limits of cable-stayed bridges determined by the cable and girder are derived and a detailed parametric analysis is conducted to assess the engineering span limit under current technical conditions. The results show that the engineering span limit of cable-stayed bridges is about 2,200 m based on materials used available today. The girder is the critical member restricting further increase in the span length; its compressive stress is the limiting factor. Approaches to increasing the engineering span limit are also presented based on the analysis results.

  • In this paper, hyperbolic shear deformation theory is used for free vibration analysis of piezoelectric rectangular plate made of porous core. Various types of porosity distributions for the porous material is used. To obtain governing equations of motion, Hamilton's principle is used. The Navier's method is used to obtain numerical results of the problem in terms of significant parameters. One can conclude that free vibration responses are changed significantly with change of important parameters such as various porosities and dimensionless geometric parameters such as thickness to side length ratio and ratio of side lengths.

Conventional and Inverted Photovoltaic Cells Fabricated Using New Conjugated Polymer Comprising Fluorinated Benzotriazole and Benzodithiophene Derivative

  • A new conjugated copolymer, poly{4,8-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene-alt-4,7- bis(5-thiophen-2-yl)-5,6-difluoro-2-(heptadecan-9-yl)-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazole} (PTIPSBDT-DFDTBTz), is synthesized by Stille coupling polycondensation. The synthesized polymer has a band gap energy of 1.9 eV, and it absorbs light in the range 300-610 nm. The hole mobility of a solution-processed organic thin-film transistor fabricated using PTIPSBDT-DFDTBTz is $3.8{\times}10^{-3}cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$. Bulk heterojunction photovoltaic cells are fabricated, with a conventional device structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer:$PC_{71}BM$/Ca/Al ($PC_{71}BM$ = [6,6]-phenyl-$C_{71}$-butyric acid methyl ester); the device shows a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 2.86% with an open-circuit voltage ($V_{oc}$) of 0.85 V, a short-circuit current density ($J_{sc}$) of 7.60 mA $cm^{-2}$, and a fill factor (FF) of 0.44. Inverted photovoltaic cells with the structure ITO/ethoxylated polyethlyenimine/ polymer:$PC_{71}BM/MoO_3$/Ag are also fabricated; the device exhibits a maximum PCE of 2.92%, with a $V_{oc}$ of 0.89 V, a $J_{sc}$ of 6.81 mA $cm^{-2}$, and an FF of 0.48.

  • The cellulosome of Clo.~tr~rlil~m tl\ulcornererfnocellum consistmg of 26 dfferent polypeptides contains calcium. The polypeptides dissociated when calcium was removed. Most of dockerill region in the catalytic polypeptides cleavcd during dmociation. The dissociated polypeptides were well separated by MonoQ column chromatography into CipA containing fraction, a fraction still complexed wit11 91 kDa (CelK-a). 60 IiDa and 57 kDa polypeptides, and fractious contailling mainly single polypeptide of 46 kDa (CelA-a) or 71 1d)a polypeptide (CelS-trj Most or the fractions hydrolyzed c~ystalliue cellulose The purified 71 kDa polypeptide was strictly dependent on calcium for crystalline cellulose hydvolyzing activities a1 $60^{\circ}C$~$70^{\circ}C$ but 46 kDa polypeptide was not. 46 M)a polypeptide digested cellodextri~~ as cellobiose or cellotriose unit, and glucose was produced together with cellobiose and cellotriose froln cellotetraosc. It seems that cellulosome produces final product, cellobiose, through coordinated ~qulation of activities of vannus subunits.
