Magneto-rheological polishing is a new technology used in precision polishing. It utilizes magneto-rheological fluid. nonmagnetic polishing abrasive, aqueous carrier fluids in magnetic field to remove material from a part surface. Silicon micro channel as work piece is fixed in the slurry which is made of MR fluid and CeO$_2$(10 vol%) abrasive particles. And permanent magnet rotate in the slurry to transfers magnetic force to abrasive particles by increasing yield strength of MR fluid. so, the obtained bottom surface roughness of micro channel by experiment reduced to Ra 0.010 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Rmax 0.103 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and finwall surface roughness of micro channel reduced to Ra 0.018 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Rmax 0.468 $\mu\textrm{m}$. At optimum conditions of variables, the workpiece as silicon micro channel have about 24 times smaller surface roughness than before polishing.
Proper maintenance of biological components is crucial for longevity and healthy aging. Although the role of homeostatic maintenance systems for DNA and protein in longevity is established, it remains largely unknown for RNA. In our recent work, we show that nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) promotes longevity in the roundworm C. elegans by enhancing RNA quality control. We find that the activity of NMD decreases during aging, raising the possibility that RNA quality declines in old animals. We then show that key components of NMD complex are required for prolonged lifespan in C. elegans. In addition, animals with reduced insulin/insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) signaling (IIS), a representative longevity model, display increased NMD activity. Thus, up-regulation of NMD appears to play crucial roles in longevity conferred by reduced IIS via enhancing mRNA quality control. As both IIS and NMD pathways are evolutionarily conserved, mammals including humans may be equipped with similar RNA quality control systems to achieve longevity.
This paper presents an indirect compensation of thermal errors during machining, in which thermal error is modeled as a linear regression of temperatures measured at 4 specified positions. In this regression model, weighting coefficients of the measured temperatures were estimated by using the least square method. The grinding test with compensation, after 4-hour warming-up operation before the test, showed that the maximum machining error of the work pieces was reduced to 12${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ while it measured 28${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ without compensation. Furthermore the standard deviation of machining errors was also reduced from 8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.
Vanadium yeast was prepared by uptaking vanadate in yeast cells. The growth rate of yeast cells was enhanced by 1-5% glucose. While the growth rate of yeast cells was not significantly affected by YEPD containing less than 1mM vanadate, it was completely inhibited by 2.5 mM vanadate. Vanadium uptake in yeast cells was increased with increasing vanadate concentration in growth medium. Vanadate (V) was reduced to vanadyl (IV) in yeast cells associating with macromolecular compounds in cells. Oral administration of vanadium yeast significantly reduced blood glucose levels of streptozotocin treated rats same as vanadate. Vanadate and vanadium yeast similarly increased glucose oxidation in isolated adipocytes. Therefore, it was suggested that vanadium yeast could have an antidiabetic activity potency similar to that of vanadate.
Using mixed incubation of cultured endothelial cells, cultured fibroblasts, neutrophils activated with PMA and paraquat, the production of superoxide anion, $H_2O$$_2$and lipoxygenase metabolites (5-HETE and 12-HETE) of arachidonate was estimated. The results was as follows: 1. Neutrophils activated with PMA was produced superoxide anion,$H_2O_2$and lipoxygenase metabolites (5-HETE and 12-HETE) of arachidonate. 2. Fibroblasts did not alter the production of superoxide anion and $H_2O_2$ by neutrophils, it was markedly reduced by mixed incubation with endothelial cells. 3. Mixed incubation with endothelial cells significantly augmented the production of 5 or 12-HETEs, but fibroblasts did not. 4. Using mixed incubation of endothelial cells, fibroblasts, neutrophils and paraquat (50ug/m1 and 100ug/m1), the production of superoxide anion, $H_2O_2$and HETEs was significantly increased on both cells at low concentration (50ug/m1), but markedly reduced at high concentration (1001g/m1). 5. Paraquat showed concentration dependent effects on arachidonate lipoxygenase metabolism.
A real time error compensation system was developed to improve the quasistatic volumetric accuracy of a machining center by using sensing, metrology, modeling, and computer control techniques. Including thermal errors, 32 error components are formulated in the time-space domain. Fifteen thermal sensors are used to characterize the temperature field of the machine. A compensation controller based on the IBM/PC has been linked with a CNC controller to compensate for machine errors in real time. The maximum linear displacement error in 4 body diagonals were reduced from 140 ${\mu}m$ to 34.5${\mu}m$ with this compensation system, and the spindle thermal drift in space was reduced from 147.3 ${\mu}m$ to 16.8 ${\mu}m$.
We show that there exists an isomorphism between the basic construction $(M_f)_1$ for $N_f{\subset}M_f$ and the reduction $(M_1)_f$ of the basic construction $M_1$ for $N{\subset}M$, where $f$ is a nontrivial projection in N. For a nontrivial projection $f{\in}N^{\prime}{\cap}M$ we give the basic construction $(M_f)_1$ for $N_f{\subset}M_f$ and compare it with $(M_1)_f$.
Objective: An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of reduced energy density of close-up diets on metabolites, lipolysis and gluconeogenesis in cows during the transition period. Methods: Thirty-nine Holstein dry cows were blocked and assigned randomly to three groups, fed a high energy density diet (HD, 1.62 Mcal of net energy for lactation $[NE_L]/kg$ dry matter [DM]), a medium energy density diet (MD, $1.47Mcal\;NE_L/kg\;DM$), or a low energy density diet (LD, $1.30Mcal\;NE_L/kg\;DM$) prepartum; they were fed the same lactation diet to 28 days in milk (DIM). All the cows were housed in a free-stall barn and fed ad libitum. Results: The reduced energy density diets decreased the blood insulin concentration and increased nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) concentration in the prepartum period (p<0.05). They also increased the concentrations of glucose, insulin and glucagon, and decreased the concentrations of NEFA and ${\beta}-hydroxybutyrate$ during the first 2 weeks of lactation (p<0.05). The plasma urea nitrogen concentration of both prepartum and postpartum was not affected by dietary energy density (p>0.05). The dietary energy density had no effect on mRNA abundance of insulin receptors, leptin and peroxisome proliferator-activated $receptor-{\gamma}$ in adipose tissue, and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1 and peroxisome proliferator-activated $receptor-{\alpha}$ in liver during the transition period (p>0.05). The HD cows had higher mRNA abundance of hormone-sensitive lipase at 3 DIM compared with the MD cows and LD cows (p = 0.001). The mRNA abundance of hepatic pyruvate carboxy-kinase at 3 DIM tended to be increased by the reduced energy density of the close-up diets (p = 0.08). Conclusion: The reduced energy density diet prepartum was effective in controlling adipose tissue mobilization and improving the capacity of hepatic gluconeogenesis postpartum.
Indium, element of group III, was refined by using zone refining for high purity refinement. We have found the impurities of T1, Zn, Fe, Cd, Pb, Ni, Cu, Sn in the refined indium with ICP-AES, so that 3.9 weight ppm of T1 was reduced to less than 1 ppm, 1.0 weight ppm of Zn was reduced to 0.7 ppm, 2.8 weight ppm of Cd was reduced to 2.5 ppm and 14.0 weight ppm of Sn was reduced to 6.7 ppm with 5 melten zone passes only. 3.9 weight ppm of T1 was reduced to less than 1 ppm, 1.0 weight ppm of Zn was reduced to 0.3 ppm, 2.8 weight ppm of Cd was reduced to less than 1.0 ppm and 14.0 weight ppm of Sn was reduced to 0.4 ppm after vacuum baking with 5 melten zone passes. The surface morpholgy of metal Indium thin film in each conditions showed that porosities were reduced in the front of sampled ingot after vacuum baking with 5 zone melten zone passes. The average electrical resistivity of Indium thin film was reduced from 1.4*10$^{-3}$ .ohm.-cm in Indium origin ingot to 7.9*10$^{-6}$ .ohm.-cm after zone refined with 5 melten zone passes.
Objectives : This study was carried out to understand the immunity responses and anti-oxidation effect of the Gamidaeganghwal-tang(GDT) on rheumatoid arthritis by using the THP-1 cells and the serum of CIA mice. Methods : For this purpose, GDT was orally administerd to mice with rheumatoid arthritis induced by collagen II. To investigate the immunity responses, value of cytokine and gene expression in the THP-1 cell, levels of cytokines in the serum of CIA(collagen type II induced arthritis) mice, number of immunocyte in PBMC of CIA mice were measured. Then, anti-oxidant activity, scavenging activity on DHHP(2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radical and SOD(Superoxide dismutae)-like activity of GDT was observed. Results : 1. The levels of IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-6, IL-8, MCP-1 at 100, $50{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ of GDT were significantly reduced in the THP-1 cell. 2. The levels of TNF-${\alpha}$, COX-2 mRNA expression at 100, $50{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ of GDT and IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-6 at $100{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ of GDT were significantly reduced in the THP-1 cell line. 3. The levels of IL-6, TNF-${\alpha}$ and IL-$1{\beta}$ were significantly reduced in the serum of CIA mice. 4. The absolute number of CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ cells were significantly induced, CD3+/CD69+, CD3+/CD49+, CD19+, B220+/CD23+ cells were significantly reduced in PBMC. 5. Scavenging activity on DPPH free radical and SOD-like activity were significantly induced in a concentration dependent manner. Conclusions : Taking all these observations, GDT considered to be effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore we have to survey continuously in looking for the effective substance and mechanism in the future.
