Estimation of High Resolution Daily Precipitation Using a Modified PRISM Model (개선된 PRISM 모형을 이용한 고해상도 일강수량 추정)

  • This study modified the Parameter-elevation Regression on Independent Slopes Model (PRISM) and investigated the applicability of the modified model (M-PRISM) in estimating $1km{\times}1km$ gridded daily precipitation over South Korea. The model parameters of M-PRISM were estimated by regression curves and were validated using the Jackknife method at the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA) stations. The results indicate that M-RPISM shows better performance in estimating the frequency of daily precipitation than PRISM while M-PRISM has similar performance to PRISM in estimating the daily precipitation amount. Thus the M-PRISM model proposed in this study can be very useful to estimate high resolution daily precipitation.

Decision of GIS Optimum Grid on Applying Distributed Rainfall-Runoff Model with Radar Resolution (레이더 자료의 해상도를 고려한 분포형 강우-유출 모형의 GIS 자료 최적 격자의 결정)

  • Changes in climate have largely increased concentrated heavy rainfall, which in turn is causing enormous damages to humans and properties. Therefore, the exact relationship and the spatial variability analysis of hydrometeorological elements and characteristic factors is critical elements to reduce the uncertainty in rainfall -runoff model. In this study, radar rainfall grid resolution and grid resolution depending on the topographic factor in rainfall - runoff models were how to respond. In this study, semi-distribution of rainfall-runoff model using the model ModClark of Inje, Gangwon Naerin watershed was used as Gwangdeok RADAR data. The completed ModClark model was calibrated for use DEM of cell size of 30m, 150m, 250m, 350m was chosen for the application, and runoff simulated by the RADAR rainfall data of 500m, 1km, 2km, 5km, 10km from 14 to 17 on July, 2006. According to the resolution of each grid, in order to compare simulation results, the runoff hydrograph has been made and the runoff has also been simulated. As a result, it was highly runoff simulation if the cell size is DEM 30m~150m, RADAR rainfall 500m~2km for peak flow and runoff volume. In the statistical analysis results, if every DEM cell size are 500m and if RADAR rainfall cell size is 30m, relevance of model was higher. Result of sensitivity assessment, high index DEM give effect to result of distributed model. Recently, rainfall -runoff analysis is used lumped model to distributed model. So, this study is expected to make use of the efficiently decision criteria for configurated models.

MODEL EXPERIMENT OF STOW NET (안강망어구의 모형실험)

  • The stow net now used in the Yellow Sea, are traditional bag net with the opening held by a lighter upper and a weighted lower beams standing against the current. Such bag net anchored at the bottom are known in many countries, particularly in the estuaries of large rivers, but more rarely in sea fisheries, because they are too much affected by the weather, moreover a permanent strong current is necessary. Some scientists intended to improve this fishing gear, using the shearing devices instead of a lighter upper and a weighted lower beams in order to widen mouth of the stow net however they are unsuccessful. One-fortieth scale model net of the stow net was tested in a circular water tank with an effective volume of $5.67m\times1.76m\times1.00m$ of observing the configuration and tension of the net. Experiments were carried out under the various combination including water velocity, spherical floats and elevating floats with the shearing hoods instead of the upper beam. We found those devices offered a very low resistance per net area to current compared with the spherical floats or upper beam, and had a fairly good shearing power at any velocity and direction of the current. The total resistance (R) of the model net to which shearing hoods and floats are attached can be induced by the following formula under the condition of 0.25m/sec to 0.5m/sec, $$R(kg)=3.11V^{1.54}$$ The height (h) of the improved model net (m-B) is higher than traditional model net(m-A) with upper and lower beams, m-A: h(cm)=89.22-2.42(V-15). $V\geqq15,\;cm/sec$ m-B: h(cm)=89.20-0.78V (V:cm/sec) The catch efficiency of improved model net is 1.5 times traditional model net.

  • Working depth of the model net was determined by using of the same experimental tank and the same model net that used in the forwarded report in a series studies. The depth of the net which indicates the depth of the head rope from the water surface, was determined by the photographs taken in front of the net mouth with the combination of towing velocity, warp length and distance between paired boats. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. Working depth of model nets A and B was varied in the range of 0.09~1.66$m$,and 0.04~1.34$m$(which can be converted into 2.7~40.2$m$and 1.2~49.8$m$in the full-scale net) respectively, and the depth of model net A was slightly deeper than the depth of the model net B. 2. Moving Distance of Laborer in the Kitchen for Systematic of the Korean Foods (한식(韓食)의 편의식화(便宜食化)를 위한 주방동선(?房動線)에 관한 연구)

  • In order to develop a convenient Korean food service system in commercial kitchen, processing procedure and recipe of 10 kinds of Korean food to be served as a convenient foods were decided. Moving distance and required energy of laborer in the commercial and model restaurants which have the area of $62.8m^2$ and $32.4m^2$, respectively, were measured by arranging these machinery. The results obtained were summarized as follows. In case of restaurant with the area of $62.8m^2$, moving distance, working hours and required energy of laborers were 1,922m, 2,986min and 4,704kcal in C-store, 2,134m, 3,173min and 5,001.7kcal in T-store, and 1,704m, 2,808min and 4,414.5kcal in model restaurant, respectively. Therefore energy requirements of the model restaurant were less 289.5kcal (4.5%) and 587.2kcal (10.1%) than those of C and T store. In case of restaurant with the area of $32.4m^2$, moving distance, working hours and required energy of laborer in S store were 1,277m, 2,926min and 4,588kcal, 1,425m, 3,108min and 4,873.8kcal in H restaurant and 1,167m, 2,798min and 4,381.4kcal in model restaurant, respectively. Therefore energy requirements of the model restaurant were less 206.6kcal (4.7%) and 492.4kcal (11.2%) than those of S store and H restaurant. When 6 kinds of convenient foods and 4 kinds of direct cooking foods were produced, moving distance, working hours and required energy of laborer in S store were 554.7m, 972min and 1,586.0kcal, 684.7m, 991min and 1,579.2kcal in H restaurant, 523.1m, 938min and 1,479.5kcal in model restaurant. Therefore energy requirements of the model restaurant were less 99.7kcal(6.7%) and 106.5kcal(7.2%) than those of S store and H restaurant. In case of the energy saving system kitchen, moving distance and required energy were saved less by 42% and by 20.4% than those of model kitchen, respectively.

HisCoM-mimi: software for hierarchical structural component analysis for miRNA-mRNA integration model for binary phenotypes

  • To identify miRNA-mRNA interaction pairs associated with binary phenotypes, we propose a hierarchical structural component model for miRNA-mRNA integration (HisCoM-mimi). Information on known mRNA targets provided by TargetScan is used to perform HisCoM-mimi. However, multiple databases can be used to find miRNA-mRNA signatures with known biological information through different algorithms. To take these additional databases into account, we present our advanced application software for HisCoM-mimi for binary phenotypes. The proposed HisCoM-mimi supports both TargetScan and miRTarBase, which provides manually-verified information initially gathered by text-mining the literature. By integrating information from miRTarBase into HisCoM-mimi, a broad range of target information derived from the research literature can be analyzed. Another improvement of the new HisCoM-mimi approach is the inclusion of updated algorithms to provide the lasso and elastic-net penalties for users who want to fit a model with a smaller number of selected miRNAs and mRNAs. We expect that our HisCoM-mimi software will make advanced methods accessible to researchers who want to identify miRNA-mRNA interaction pairs related with binary phenotypes.

Modified Nayak's Randomized Response Model

  • Nayak(1994) suggested a combined randomized response model that combined the Warner's model and greenberg et al.'s model. In this paper we extend Nayak's model to two sample case of including unknown unrelated character also propose some combined models such W-M model and G-M model that modify the Nayak's model. We suggest the efficiency conditions of our models for Nayak's model, also find the efficiency condition of G-M model for the W-M model.

Estimation of maximum object size satisfying mean response time constraint in web service environment (웹 서비스 환경에서 평균 응답 시간의 제약조건을 만족하는 최대 객체 크기의 추정)

  • One of the economical ways to satisfy the quality of service desired by the user in a web service environment is to adjust the size of the object. To this end, this study finds the maximum size of objects that satisfy this constraint when the mean response time is given below an arbitrary threshold for quality of service. It can be inferred that in the steady state of system, the mean response time in the deterministic model by using the round-robin will be the same as that of the queueing model following the general distribution. Based on this, analytical formulas and procedures for finding the maximum object size are obtained. As a service distribution of web traffic, the Pareto distribution is appropriate, so the maximum object size is computed by applying the M/G(Pareto)/1 model and the M/G/1/PS model using exponential distribution as computational experience. Performance evaluation through numerical calculation shows that as the shape parameter in the Pareto distribution increases, the M/G(Pareto)/1 model and M/G/1/PS model have the same maximum object size. The results of this study can be used to environments where objects can be sized for economical web service control.

The Analysis of Fractal Dimension on the Main-Stream Length using Digital Elevation Model (수치고도모형을 이용한 본류하천길이에 관한 프랙탈 차원의 해석)

  • Recently, GIS(Geographic Information System) is used to extract various hydrological factors from DEM(Digital Elevation Model) in river basin. Therefore, this study aims at the determination of river fractal dimension using DEM. In this paper, the main-stream length in river basin was grid-analyzed for each scale(1/5,000, 1/25,000, 1/50,000) and each cell size(5m$\times$5m, l0m$\times$l0m, 20m$\times$20m, 30m$\times$30m, 40m$\times$40m, 50m$\times$50m, 60m$\times$60m, 70m$\times$70m, 80m$\times$80m, 90m$\times$90m, 100m$\times$l00m, 120m$\times$120m, 150m$\times$150m) using GIS. Also, fractal dimension was derived by analyzing correlation among main-stream lengths, scale, and cell size which were calculated here. The result of calculating fractal dimension for each cell size shows that the fractal dimension on the main-stream length is 1.028.

CFD-Based Overpressure Evaluation Inside Expansion Chamber-Applied Protective Tunnels Subjected to Detonation of High Explosives (확장챔버를 적용한 방호터널 내부의 CFD 해석 기반 폭발압력 평가)

  • This paper presents a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis to investiagate the effect of expansion chamber on overpressure reduction in protective tunnels subjected to detonation of high explosives. A commercial CFD code, Viper::Blast, was used to model the blast waves in a protective tunnel with a length of 160 m, width of 8.9 m and height of 7.2 m. Blast scenarios and simulation matrix were establihsed in consideration of the design parameters of expansion chamber, including the chamber lengths of 6.1 m to 12.1 m, widths of 10.7 m to 97 m, length to width ratios of 0.0 to 5.0, heights of 8.0 m and 14.9 m, and ratios of chamber to tunnel width of 1.2 to 10.9 m. A charge weight of TNT of 1000 kg was used. The mesh sizes of the numerical model of the protective tunnel were determined based on a mesh convergence study. A parametric study based on the simulation matrix was performed using the proposed CFD tunnel model and the optimized shape of expansion chamber of the considered tunnel was then proposed based on the numerical results. Design recommendations for the use of expansion chamber in protective tunnel under blast loads to reduce the internal overpressures were finally provided.
