A robust stability problem for time delay systems is discussed by using a property of Lyapunov type operator equation. We propose a method to check the robust stability against the parameter perturbations occurring in both lumped parameter part and distributed delay element.
Due to the complexity of mathematical expressions, the literature concerning the free vibration analysis of plates carrying multiple three-degree-of-freedom (dof) spring-mass systems is rare. In this paper, the three degrees of freedom (dof's) for a spring-mass system refer to the translational motion of its lumped mass in the vertical ($\bar{z}$) direction and the two pitching motions of its lumped mass about the two horizontal ($\bar{x}$ and $\bar{y}$) axes. The basic concept of this paper is to replace each three-dof spring-mass system by a set of equivalent springs, so that the free vibration characteristics of a rectangular plate carrying any number of three-dof spring-mass systems can be obtained from those of the same plate supported by the same number of sets of equivalent springs. Since the three dof's of the lumped mass for each three-dof spring-mass system are eliminated to yield a set of equivalent springs, the total dof of the entire vibrating system is not affected by the total number of the spring-mass systems attached to the rectangular plate. However, this is not true in the conventional finite element method (FEM), where the total dof of the entire vibrating system increases three if one more three-dof spring-mass system is attached to the rectangular plate. Hence, the computer storage memory required by using the presented equivalent spring method (ESM) is less than that required by the conventional FEM, and the more the total number of the three-dof spring-mass systems attached to the plate, the more the advantage of the ESM. In addition, since manufacturing a spring with the specified stiffness is much easier than making a three-dof spring-mass system with the specified spring constants and mass magnitude, the presented theory of replacing a three-dof spring-mass system by a set of equivalent springs will be also significant from this viewpoint.

In this paper, we extract the parasitic elements of the metal-insulate-metal(MIM) capacitor using short-open calibration (SOC). The scattering matrixes of short, open, and MIM structures in strip lines are measured by full electro-magnetic (EM) simulator and vector network analyser. The full EM simulations are performed by finite element method (FEM) that was fitted three dimensional structure analysis. The electro-magnetic effects of MIM capacitor laminated in the multi-layered structures are proposed the II equivalent circuit with lumped elements, and the relations between the measured scattering parameters of the MIM structures and lumped elements in the circuits are shown by performing 2 port network analysis. The extracted lumped elements using the proposed SOC method are independent to frequencies.

Lumped Damage Mechanics (LDM) is a theory proposed in the late eighties, which assumes that structural collapse may be analyzed as a two-phase phenomenon. In the first (pre-localization) stage, energy dissipation is a continuous process and it may be modelled by means of the classic versions of the theory of plasticity or Continuum Damage Mechanics (CDM). The second, post-localization, phase can be modelled assuming that energy dissipation is lumped in zones of zero volume: inelastic hinges, hinge lines or localization surfaces. This paper proposes a new LDM formulation for cracking in concrete structures in tension. It also describes its numerical implementation in conventional finite element programs. The results of three numerical simulations of experimental tests reported in the literature are presented. They correspond to plain and fiber-reinforced concrete specimens. A fourth simulation describes also the experimental results of a new test using the digital image correlation technique. These numerical simulations are also compared with the ones obtained using conventional Cohesive Fracture Mechanics (CFM). It is then shown that LDM conserves the advantages of both, CDM and CFM, while overcoming their drawbacks.

In general, the battery module of an electric vehicle (EV) consists of lithium-ion cells. A lithium-ion battery is a secondary rechargeable battery, and it consists of numerous stacked plates that serve as electrodes and separators. Owing to these microstructural features, its numerical analysis is very expensive. Therefore, this study aims to present a simplified thermal analysis model using equivalent thermal properties, and we compare the experimental results with numerical results for 185.3Ah and 20Ah cells. Furthermore, we show the thermal behavior of cells without the finite element method (FEM) or finite volume method (FVM) by adopting the lumped capacitance method (LCM).

In this paper, the vibration characteristics of the trapezoidal corrugated plate with axial stiffeners and lumped masses are investigated by the analytical method. The corrugated plate can be treated as an equivalent orthotropic plate as this plate has different flexure properties in two perpendicular directions; flexible in the corrugation direction and stiff in the transverse direction. The effective extensional and flexural stiffness of the equivalent plate are considered to obtain the precise solution in the analysis. The plate is stiffened by concentric stiffeners horizontally to the corrugation direction. The discrete stiffener theory is adopted to consider the position of stiffener. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach, the comparison is made with the results of 3D ANSYS finite element solutions. Some numerical results are presented to check the effect of the geometric properties.
There are two types of nonlinear analysis methods for building frameworks depending on the method of modeling the plastification of members including lumped plasticity and distributed plasticity. The lumped plasticity method assumes that plasticity is concentrated at a zero-length plastic hinge section at the ends of the elements. The distributed plasticity method discretizes the structural members into many line segments, and further subdivides the cross-section of each segment into a number of finite elements. When a reinforced concrete member experiences inelastic deformations, cracks tend to spread form the joint interface resulting in a curvature distribution. The program IDARC includes a spread plasticity formulation to capture the variation of the section flexibility, and combine them to determine the element stiffness matrix. In this formulation, the flexibility distribution in the structural elements is assumed to be the linear. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of linear flexibility distribution assumed in the spread inelasticity model. For this purpose, nonlinear analysis of two reinforced concrete frames is carried out and the linear flexibility models used in the elements are compared with the real ones. It is shown that the linear flexibility distribution is incorrect assumption in cases of significant gravity load effects and can be lead to incorrect nonlinear responses in some situations.

For a member model in nonlinear structural analysis, a lumped plastic model that idealizes its flexural bending, shear, and axial behaviors by springs with the nonlinear hysteretic model is widely adopted because of its simplicity and transparency compared to the other rigorous finite element methods. On the other hand, a challenging task in its numerical solution is to satisfy the equilibrium condition between nonlinear flexural bending and shear springs connected in series. Since the local forces between flexural and shear springs are not balanced when one or both springs experience stiffness changes (e.g., cracking, yielding, and unloading), the additional unbalanced force due to overshooting or undershooting each spring force is also generated. This paper introduces an iterative scheme for numerical solutions satisfying the equilibrium conditions between flexural bending and shear springs. The effect of equilibrium iteration on analysis results is shown by comparing the results obtained from the proposed method to those from the conventional scheme, where the equilibrium condition is not perfectly satisfied.

The equation of motion on the vehicle-bridge system is established as the simultaneous equations which are combined the equation of vehicle and bridge by the interaction elements. A vehicle element is modeled as lumped masses supported by springs and dashpots, and a bridge element with pavement roughness is modeled as beam elements. An interaction element is defined to consist of a bridge element and the suspension units of the vehicle resting on the element. By the dynamic condensation method, the degrees of the freedom are eliminated, and compared with all the degrees of freedom on the bridge, the efforts of calculation is decreased. Thus, although a very small computational error is occured, the present technique appears to be computationally more efficient. It is particularly suitable for the simulation of bridges with a series of vehicles moving on the deck.
