  • By controlling the number of electrons transferred to the emitting layer, highly efficient three-wavelength WOLEDs were fabricated. Such WOLEDs are different from those made using simple stacking of RGB emitting layers in that the movement distribution of electrons transferred to emitting layer could be adjusted using the difference in LUMO energy level and that lights of all 3 wavelengths could be emitted through appropriate arrangement of RGB emitting layers. WOLED device with the structure of m-MTDTA (40 nm)/NPB (10 nm)/ Coumarin6 doped $Alq_3$ (3%) (8 nm)/ Rubrene doped NPB (5%) (15 nm)/NPB (2 nm)/ DPVBi (20 nm)/$Alq_3$ (20 nm)/LiF (1 nm)/Al (200 nm) showed high luminance efficiency of 8.9 cd/A and color purity of (0.31, 0.40). In addition, WOLED device with the thickness of non-doped NPB layer increased from 2 nm to 3 nm to increase blue light emission showed a luminance efficiency of 7.6 cd/A and color purity of (0.28, 0.36).

  • We developed a new ANGLED display driving method which used both amplitude and pulse width modulation. For pulse width modulation, we divided a picture frame time into S sub-frames. For amplitude modulation, we used three OLED luminance(or current) levels which were controlled by TFT's gate voltages. By combining these two modulation methods, we obtained 35(=243) grey levels. And we designed a new data electrode driving circuit block with two shift registers without using DAC's. To verify the feasibility, we simulated the key circuit components by HSpice with TFT parameters extracted from current-voltage characteristics of 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ channel length polysilicon TFT's. From the simulation results, we found that 320${\times}$240, dual scan, 243 grey level AMOLED display can be designed with this method.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for measuring image sticking of an OLED display using a human visual test. We determined that the perceptual image sticking threshold is 2% of luminance difference at 200 nits and 1% at 100 nits, respectively. Color shift must also be considered when evaluating image sticking, as a ${\Delta}$(u', v') shift of just over 0.002 can be recognized regardless of background brightness. Perception of image sticking is affected by the background level, test pattern, and ambient illumination conditions. The evaluation standard must consider both luminance variation and color shift simultaneously.

  • EL (electro luminescent) is generally studied as a large size plane light emitting device and flexible light source because of it's simple manufacturing process. In this experiment, we manufactured flexible white emitting light source using Ni-foil with blue phosphor and color change materials. With increasing the thickness of color change material, the luminance of white emission is increased and the color coordinate of white color was shifted to pure white of (0.317,0.328) by strong emission of color change materials excited by blue excitation spectra. Also the luminance level was 30% higher in white emitting light device than blue only light source.

  • This paper suggests techniques to reduce coding time which is a problem in traditional fractal compression and to improve fidelity of reconstructed images by determining fractal coefficient through adaptive selection of block approximation formula. First, to reduce coding time, we construct a linear list of domain blocks of which characteristics is given by their luminance and variance and then we control block searching time according to the first permissible threshold value. Next, when employing three-level block partition, if a range block of minimum partition level cannot find a domain block which has a satisfying approximation error, we choose new approximation coefficients using a non-linear approximation of luminance term. This boosts the fidelity. Our experiment employing the above methods shows enhancement in the coding time more than two times over traditional coding methods and shows improvement in PSNR value by about 1-3dB at the same com- pression rate.

  • When multiple features are presented in the image the computational models for stereopsis select the most activated matches through the excitatory and inhibitory interactions among all possible matches. Using the random-dot stereogram with two surfaces. we investigate whether human binocular mechanism selects the most activated matches. The dots consisting a surface lying in a fixation plane were selected randomly while each of the dots consisting the other surface was paired with each of the original dots in the following manner. After finding the position of each dots in the original random pattern we placed an additional dot to the left and to the right of the original position in each of the left and right image of a stereogram respectively. The luminance of additional dots was varied while that of the original random dots was fixed so that the hypothetical matches presumably could be activated differently. Across the luminance condition the depth of each surface was measured to examine whether matches to be selected were changed depending on the activation level of possible matches. When the luminance of two patterns was within 30% of one another observers perceived an opaque surface. Beyond this value two transparent surfaces were seen with the magnitude of perceived depth varying with relative luminance of two patterns. When original pattern was brighter one additional surface was perceived at the depth corresponding to the disparity of original pattern. When original dot was dimmer. however the depth of an additional surface corresponded to the disparity of newly introduced pattern. These results suggest that there are dynamic interactions within the matching process whereby highly activated matches inhibit weaker one.

  • Tone reproduction characteristics of color and gray have a great influence on the picture quality in visual display. In this study, we optimized tone reproduction characteristics of color and gray of CRT monitor by setting brightness to the optimum level, in which offsets for RGB channels can be assumed to zero. The optimum brightness level could be found by measuring a few tones of neutral for the combination of 2 levels of brightness and 2 levels of contrast. As the result, the relationship between normalized DAC count and normalized luminance of primary color or gray has been simply presented by gamma and result in good phosphor constancy.

  • A method of characterizing time-sequential stereoscopic 3D displays based on the measurement of the temporal behavior of the systems vs. the grey levels is proposed. An Nvidia 3D vision kit with a 3D-ready SAMSUNG 2233RZ LCD display is characterized in the paper. OPTISCOPE SA especially designed for the precise measurements of the luminance and temporal behavior of LCD displays was used. The transmittance and response time of the shutter glasses was first evaluated. Then the grey-to-grey response times of the display were measured. The 2D and 3D behaviors of the display were then compared. Finally, the temporal behavior of the complete system was modeled, and the grey-level variations on one view were deduced as a function of the synchronization and level of the other eye. The main sources of imperfection were identified and quantified, and a full computation of the system performances was done.

  • Recently, outdoor lighting of buildings has bemIre activated in national level of Korea. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the outdoor ljghting effect of historic buildings with particular reference to two traditional gates architecture - Namdaemtul and Kwanghwamun For the purpose, luminance and chromaticity of outdoor lighting are measured. The results of the study are as follows; $\circled1$ Outdoor lighting of the historic buildings were mainly illuminated by the floodlights. In addition, up-lighting and accent lighting were locally used. $\circled2$ Basements and rooflines were specially emphasized, and they represented the night image of historical buildings. $\circled3$ Chromaticity distribution of historical building was wlute during the day. However, it was yellow dL1Jing the night due to the color and color temperature of outdoor lighting.ghting.
