  • The blanking sequence of refrigerator and air-conditioner compressor-motor-core has been determined by trial and error. To improve such problem, 2d-analysis using ANSYS to verify the deformation state has been done firstly. And 3d-analysis following up the real process has been done. Additionally, verified the 3-d analysis result using S/W LS-DYNA.

  • Shock responses of the MIL-S-901D standard floating shock platform("SFSP") subject to underwater explosions(UNDEX) are analyzed by using the LS-DYNA/USA. For the analysis, surrounding fluids as well as the SFSP are included in a 3D FE model to consider the cavitation effects of the UNDEX shock wave. The calculated results are compared with the existing test results and it is confirmed that the analysis results predict accurately the shock behaviors of the SFSP.

  • In this study, we simulate the railway crash accident that occurred at the Sangwangsimni station on the Seoul Metro Line #2, and we propose a solution to minimize the damage. We use LS-DYNA, which is the commercial software employed for collision analysis to perform 1-D and 3-D simulations for the recurrence of accidents. By performing 1-D simulations, we analyze the load, displacement, absorbed energy of the couplers, and acceleration of vehicles, and we evaluate the safety in accidental collisions. By performing 3-D simulations, we analyze the deformation of the car and over-ridding. We propose methods to improve the safety in collisions involving railway vehicles, and we perform collision accident simulations to determine improvements when applying a high-performance energy absorber to the front car.

  • This paper describes the crashworthiness evaluation and performance improvement of tilting train made of sandwich composites. The applied sandwich composite of carbody structure was composed of aluminum honeycomb core and glass/epoxy & carbon/epoxy laminate composite facesheet. Crashworthiness analysis of tilting train was carried out using explicit finite element analysis code LS-DYNA 3D. The 3D finite element model and 1D equivalent model were applied to save the finite element modeling and calculation time for crash analysis. The crash conditions of tilting train were conducted according to four crash scenarios of the Korean railway safety law. It found that the crashworthiness analysis results were satisfied with the performance requirements except the crash scenario-2. In order to meet the crashworthiness requirements for crash scenario-2, the stiffness reinforcement for the laminate composite cover and metal frames of cabmask structure was proposed. Consequentially, it has satisfied the requirement for crash scenario-2.

  • For electromagnetic forming(EMF) the most important feature is a forming coil which creates the electromagnetic force(Lorentz force), using current density and a magnetic field. Most previous papers have concentrated on the final configuration of the blank or the efficiency of EMF process. Studies focused on the design parameters affected by the forming coil performance have not been conducted. In order to design a suitable forming coil for an object, the current study uses LS-DYNA EM-Module to not only optimize the coil but also to examine the effect of coil performance. By this method a suitable forming coil was made and tested to determine whether or not good formability was achieved in a free bulge test Numerical analysis was also used. The workpiece was Al 1100-O with a thickness of 1.27mm and the coil was made from copper CW004A, which has good electrical conductivity and is suitable for electrical components.

  • This paper measures the mechanical properties of corrugated cardboard, an eco-friendly packaging material, and applies these measurements to the MAT_PAPER model in LS-DYNA for finite element analysis. Although MAT_PAPER is primarily designed for modeling the behavior of paper, this research demonstrates its applicability to corrugated cardboard as well. Tensile, compression, and shear behaviors of a corrugated cardboard were measured and analyzed, and based on these results, six yield surfaces were derived and integrated into the MAT_PAPER model. By comparing the finite element analysis of the material tests and the low velocity collapse analysis of the corrugated cardboard square boxes with each experimental results, it was shown that the behavior of corrugated cardboard could be equivalently considered well by the MAT_PAPER model. However, since the model is not rate-dependent, the high strain rate properties of liner materials were measured and used for strain rate correction. Consequently, this matches well with the results of the high-speed compression tests of the corrugated cardboard square boxes.

  • The damages due to wave impact loads are largely affected by impact pressure impulse and impact load area. The objective of this study is, as the third step, to perform dynamic structural analysis of bow flare structure of 300,000 DWT VLCC using LS/DYNA3D code, and to verify its dynamic structural behaviors. The impact load areas of stiffener space $1.5s{\times}1.5s$ and $2.5s{\times}2.5s$ are applied to bow flare structure part with relatively flexible stiffeners, and with stiff members such as stringers, webs etc., respectively, under the wave impact load with peak height 6.5MPa, tail 1.0MPa, and duration time 5.0msec. Through the dynamic structural analysis in this study, it might be thought that the structural strength of bow flare structure is generally sufficient for these wave impact load and areas, except that large damages were found at bow flare structure area with flexible wide span stiffeners.

  • It is possible to set up the Roadside Barrier which is suitable for Performance Evaluation Criteria by domestic standard. But a number of section of expressway roadside have old guardrail that was installed before reform the guideline. These poor performance guardrails threaten driver's life. There is lots of difficult problem to change old guardrails that are installed 2,777km in expressway of whole road side at the same time. Especially budget problem. The purpose of study is to develop performance improvement guardrails by the minimum reinforcement. In this study, guardrail improvement method(SB1, 3, 5 grade) is developed through crash simulation using LS-DYNA 3D and vehicle crash test. And it's expected not only to decrease of collision accident but to increase safe level. Of course one thing that can't be missing is to reduce a lot of budget of guardrail change.

  • In this paper dynamic deformation of lower hinge of refrigerator is simulated using dynamic finite element analysis while refrigerator is being dropped. The flow stress curves considering velocity dependency of hinge and lower packing material are determined through bending test and compression test at several dropping speeds. The determined material properties and flow stress from reverse engineering were used as input data for refrigerator's drop test using a dynamic finite element analysis software LS-DYNA. Additionally the result between CAE and 3D deformation measurement from real refrigerator drop test are compared and the result shows that the proposed analysis model is very useful to design lower hinge and lower packing endurable to the impulsive drop impact.

  • The bird strike simulation is a problem characterized by a high degree of uncertainty. It deals with nonlinear dynamics, complicated models of bird materials and geometry, as well as a plenty of possible boundary and initial conditions. In this complex field, uncertainty management plays an important role. This paper aims to assess the effect of input uncertainty of bird strike analysis on the impact behavior of the leading edge of the WIG(Wing in Ground Effect) craft obtained with finite element analysis using LS-DYNA 3D. The uncertainties of the bird strike simulation arise due to imprecision or lack of information, due to variability or scatter, or as a consequence of model simplification. These uncertain parameters are represented by fuzzy numbers with their membership functions quantifying an initial guess for the actual value of the model parameter. Using the transformation method as a special implementation of fuzzy arithmetic, the model can be analyzed with the intention of determining the influence of each uncertain parameter on the overall bird strike behavior.
