A Design and Implementation of modified ZigBee using the Directed-Messaging for Energy Efficiency Improvement (에너지 효율성 향상을 위하여 방향성 메시징을 사용하는 수정된 지그비의 설계 및 구현)

  • ZigBee is the low power, low cost and low data rate wireless personal area network(LR-WPAN) standard. The Directed-Messaging is the protocol which improves the energy efficiency through reducing the redundant message transmission by transmitting messages with directional information toward the specified sub-network area in wireless sensor network using broadcasting. In this paper, we design and implement the experimental grid sensor network using ZigBee modified by the Directed-Messaging for the energy efficiency improvement. The experimental sensor network in this paper is configured with Nano24 supporting the ADV message and the routing management module modified to use the directional information. The energy efficiency improvement of the experimental sensor-network by evaluating the experimental results according to transmitting ADV message.

  • According to development of wireless communication technologies, we need not only high data rate but low data rate system of low power consumption. This low data rate system is utilized in the field of home automation, health care, sensoring and monitoring, etc. IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN system is the best choice for realizing ubiquitous networking system. In this paper SoC Architecture for IEEE 802.15.4 Low Rate WPAN is designed. IEEE 802.15.4 Low Rate WPAN system serves the functions and realization of home area network. We propose the SoC architecture for 868/915MHz frequency band of IEEE 802.15.4 Low Rate WPAN system. The key issue is to design SoC architecture which provides the function of Low Rate WPAN system to meet the requirement of IEEE 802.15.4 standards.

Analysis of Interference Effects Caused by LR-WPAN in the Frequency Band of 900MHz (900MHz 대역의 LR-WPAN에 의한 간섭영향 분석)

  • LR-WPAN(Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Network) hewn as IEEE 802.15.4 is considered as one of the most suitable specifications published until now to accomplish USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network). In this paper we simulate interference effects to other systems if LR-WPAN will be used in 900MHz. In considering the current usage situation of 900MHz frequency band, we can think LR-WPAN shares the frequency band of $908.5{\sim}914MHz$ assigned for RFID/USN. The simulation results of the case of LR-WPAN and RFID/USN sharing the frequency band show that the probability of interference of LR-WPAN to CT1 and RFID is 2.5% and 2.1%, respectively. In order to avoid interference effects to public communications, simulations results show that the protection distance of about loom is needed.

  • Data collision in LR-WPAN(Low Rate Wireless Personal Area Network) causes retransmission of which energy consumption may reduce life of the entire network. Furthermore LR-WPAN is very sensitive to collision as it has relatively fewer frequencies of backoff retries. LCS(Limited Contention Scheme) suggested in this study is a way to transmit data by certain groups of the total nodes so that it can reduce possibilities of data collision and retransmission by decreasing the number of competing nodes. As a result LCS can increase a throughput and the life of the entire network. As using LCS in designing LR-WPAN in the future can extend battery life, LCS can be useful in any application that requires low energy consumption.

  • This paper presents a new concept of IP-based wireless sensor networks and also introduces a routing protocol that is based on clustering for global healthcare information system. Low-power wireless personal area networks (LoWPANs) conform the standard by IEEE 802.15.4-2003 to IPv6 that makes 6lowpan. It characterized by low bit rate, low power, and low cost as well as protocol for wireless connections. The 6lowpan node with biomedical sensor devices fixed on the patient body area network that should be connected to the gateway in personal area network. Each 6lowpan nodes have IP-addresses that would be directly connected to the internet. With the help of IP-address service provider can recognize or analysis patient biomedical data from anywhere on globe by internet service provider equipments such as cell phone, PDA, note book. The system has been evaluated by technical verification, clinical test, user survey and current status of patient. We used NS-2.33 simulator for our prototype and also simulate the routing protocols. The result shows the performance of biomedical data packets in multi-hope routing as well as represents the topology of the networks.

  • Low Rate WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network) designed for low power and low cost wireless communication is an important technology to realize ubiquitous environment. IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee Alliance recommend the SKKE (Symmetric-Key Key Establishment) protocol for key establishment and management. The SKKE algorithm has security weakness such as the absence of authentication process or electric signature in key generation and exchange when devices join the role of coordinators. In this paper, we propose new key establishment and security algorithm based on public key encryption to solve low rate WPAN security problems. Also, to improve PLC AMR system's weaknesses in communication reliability and security, we propose a new AMR system model based on IEEE 802.15.4 and we apply our security algorithm to AMR profile for security enhancement.

  • The IEEE 802.15.4 low rate wireless personal area network is a protocol suitable for wireless sensor networks. Thus there has been growing interest in the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol in the home automation networks. This paper proposes a scheduling scheme obtaining optimal parameters regarding the IEEE 802.15.4 frame and subframes in the home automation networks. Guaranteed time slots (GTS) are exploited for the delivery of real-time traffic. Given a set of the requirements for bandwidths and periods assigned to nodes in the network, the beacon interval and the active/inactive subframe duration satisfying the requirements are selected considering the low duty cycle by the proposed scheme. Based on these parameters, analytic results provide the way to efficient use of network resources including energy.

  • BACnet(Building Automation and Control Networks) is a standard data communication protocol specifically designed for building automation and control systems, BACnet provides six options for data link layer protocols and these six data link layer options can be applied with various wired transmission media. Recently wireless technology prevails in automation area. ZigBee is an IEEE 802.15.4 based standard communication protocol for low-rate wireless personal area networks. In this study, we propose a BACnet over ZigBee model that adopts ZigBee communication channel as a wireless data link layer protocol in a BACnet-based communication network system. The technology proposed in this paper can expand the BACnet application using the advantages of wired and wireless integrated network solution.

  • Ultra-wideband communication systems for impulse radio have merits that are possible for either high resolution ranging system or radio determination. Conventionally, in order to accomplish these functions, the rapid analog to digital convertor (ADC) is necessary to apply radio determination system operating in time domain. However, considering that low rate - wireless personal area network (LR-WPAN) aims to low-cost hardware implementation, the expensive ADC converting GHz sampling per second is not appropriate. So, this paper introduces the high resolution ranging system operating in frequency domain with using low sampling rate ADC, and a new non-coherent ranging scheme utilizing analog Frequency Modulation (FM) mode for the frequency domain transformation. To verify the superiority of the proposed ranging algorithm working in frequency domain, the suggested IEEE 802.15.4a TG channel model is used to exploit affirmative features of the proposed algorithm with conducting the simulation results.

  • IEEE 802.15.4 is designed for low-rate wireless personal area networks (LR_WPAN) and it attempts to provide a low data rate, low power, low cost wireless networking on the device-level communication. In this paper, I have established a realistic environment for the effect of collision in nonbeacon-enabled mode and beacon enabled mode. The data throughput and delivery ratio are investigated as the performance metrics.
