Design and Fabrication of an Ultra-low Partial Discharge Measurement System (극미소 부분방전 측정시스템의 설계 및 제작)

  • This paper presents an ultra-low partial discharge(PD) measurement system that has been accepted as a non-destructive method to estimate electrical insulation of low-voltage electric devices. The PD measurement system is composed of a coupling network, a low noise amplifier, and associated electronics. A shielding box is used to make a better condition against electromagnetic interference. A low cut-off frequency of the coupling network was 1MHz(-3 dB). Calibration tests on laboratory set-up have shown that the PD measurement system has a stable sensitivity of 11.4mV/pC. In an application experiment on a low-voltage induction motor(5HP), we could detect 0.77pC level of partial discharge pulse at the applied voltage of AC 664 V$_{peak}$.

Enhancement of Low Molecular Ginsenoside Contents in Low Quality Fresh Ginseng by Fermentation Process (등외품 인삼(파삼)의 유산균 발효에 의한 저분자 진세노사이드 함량 증진)

  • This study compared the contents of low molecular ginsenoside according to fermentation process in low grade fresh ginseng. Low grade fresh ginseng was directly inoculated with a 24 h seed culture of $Bifidobacterium$ Longum B6., $Lactobacillus$ $casei$., and incubated at $36^{\circ}C$ for 72 h. $Bifidobacterium$ Longum B6 was specifically was found to show the best growth on $3,255{\times}10^6\;CFU/m{\ell}$ after 48 h of fermentation. The content of ginsenoside Rb1, Re and Rd were decreased with the fermentation but ginsenoside Rh2 and Rg2 increased after fermentation process. In the case of low molecular ginsenoside conversion yields were 56.07% of Rh2, 12.03% of Rg3 and 77.11% of Rg2, respectively. In addition, compound-K was irregular conversion yield as long as 72 h of fermentation. This results indicate that fermentation process could increase the low molecular ginsenoside in low grade fresh ginseng.

Mapping quantitative trait loci controlling low-temperature germinability in rice

  • Low-temperature germination is one of the major determinants for stable stand establishment in the rice direct seeding method in temperate regions and at high altitude areas. Quantitative trait loci (QTL) controlling low-temperature germinability in rice were identified using 96 introgression lines (ILs) derived from a cross between Oryza rufipogon and the Korean japonica cultivar, 'Hwaseongbyeo'. The germination rate at $15^{\circ}C$ was measured to represent low-temperature germination and used for QTL analysis. The germination rate at $15^{\circ}C$ for 7 days of Oryza rufipogon and Hwaseongbyeo was 93.3 and 28.7%, respectively, and that of progenies ranged from 0 to 48%. A linkage map was constructed using 135 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. Five putative QTLs associated with low-temperature germination were detected on chromosomes 1, 3, 4, 10 and 11. The QTL, qltg10 on chromosome 10 accounted for 19.2% of the total phenotypic variation for low-temperature germinability. Four additional QTL, accounted for 10.4 - 15.1% of the total phenotypic variation. The O. rufipogon alleles in all detected QTLs loci increased the low-temperature germination rate. No QTL associated with low temperature germinability has been detected near the qltg10 QTL in this study suggesting that qltg10 is a new QTL. The locus, qltg10 is of particular interest because of its independence from undesirable height and maturity effects. The DNA markers linked to the QTL for low temperature germinability would be useful in selecting lines with enhanced low temperature germinability in rice breeding program.

  • In this paper, we present a customer preference analysis system using the Bluetooth Low Energy technology. Compared to Classic Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy provides considerably reduced power consumption, and cost, as well as some unique characteristics while maintaining a similar communication range. The customer preference analysis system collects nearby Bluetooth Low Energy devices using an Android mobile device via Bluetooth Low Energy. In addition, the system is capable of suggesting, and advertising products that are related to these Bluetooth Low Energy devices based on the name of their manufacturer. This feature aims to attract potential customers to purchase these products.

High thermoelectric performance and low thermal conductivity in K-doped SnSe polycrystalline compounds

  • SnSe single crystal showed a high thermoelectric zT of 2.6 at 923 K mainly due to an extremely low thermal conductivity $0.23W\;m^{-1}\;K^{-1}$. It has anisotropic crystal structure resulting in deterioration of thermoelectric performance in polycrystalline SnSe, providing a low zT of 0.6 and 0.8 for Ag and Na-doped SnSe, respectively. Here, we presented the thermoelectric properties on the K-doped $K_xSn_{1-x}Se$ (x = 0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 1.5, and 2.0%) polycrystals, synthesized by a high-temperature melting and hot-press sintering with annealing process. The K-doping in SnSe efficiently enhances the hole carrier concentration without significant degradation of carrier mobility. We find that there exist widespread Se-rich precipitates, inducing strong phonon scattering and thus resulting in a very low thermal conductivity. Due to low thermal conductivity and moderate power factor, the $K_{0.001}Sn_{0.999}Se$ sample shows an exceptionally high zT of 1.11 at 823 K which is significantly enhanced value in polycrystalline compounds.

  • A new level shifter using low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin-film transistors (TFTs) for low-power applications is proposed. The proposed level shifter uses a capacitive-coupling effect and can reduce the power consumption owing to its no-short-circuit current. Its power saving over the conventional level shifter is 72% for a 3.3 V input and a 10 V output.

Properties of Sunglass Lenses by Non-Destructive Test for the Sunglass Standards (비파괴식 검사를 통한 선글라스의 품질에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we compared the properties of 23 high and 55 low price sunglass lenses with the standards in the ordinary optical properties, materials, coloration, UV, IR and luminous transmittance, color acceptance for traffic signal, chromaticity and contrast sensitivity. The ordinary optical properties of the lenses met comparatively the requirements of the KS standard. The HIGH-type and LOW-type lenses were primarily made by glass and acrylate, respectively. In the coloration, HIGH-type was in group around neutral color but LOW-type was distributed widely on the line between 570 nm and 485 nm. There are fails in 7% of HIGH-type and 18% of LOW-type in the stimulus purity of the luminous transmittance. Wavelength of the UV/VIS cut-off was over 350 nm for HIGH-type but 6% of LOW-type was under 350 nm. In the erythemal UV, all HIGH-type met the needs of standards but 5 LOW-type failed with DIN standard In the near UV, KS standard worked in stringency, and HIGH-type showed more failure than LOW-type. The characteristics of the IR transmittance of HIGH-type was better than that of LOW-type. In the color acceptance of traffic signal, all HIGH-type met the needs of ANSI standards but 21.8% of LOW-type failed with the standard. In the contrast sensitivity tested with various coloured sunglasses, the value increased with increasing of Land decreasing of test distance. In view of the results so far, HIGH-type met with excellent properties as compared with LOW-type.

  • In this paper, planar harmonic rejection low-pass filter is proposed to effectively suppress spurious response in stop-band. For suppress the unwanted signal such as spurious and harmonics, we presented a new design method controlled the higher order modes. The proposed low-pass filter was shown to suppress the spurious response by more than $20{\sim}40dB$ compared with conventional microstrip low-pass filters. The filter is evaluated by experiment and simulation with good agreement and shown to have attractive properties such as wide stop band range and low insertion loss.

  • We present a low-power MPEG-4 video codec chip capable of delivering high-quality video data in wireless multimedia applications. The discussion will focus on the architectural design techniques for implementing a high-performance video compression/decompression chip at low power architectures. The proposed MPEG-4 video codec can perform 30 frames/s of QCIF or 7.5 frame/s of CIF at 27MHz for 128k∼144kbps. By introducing the efficiently optimized Frame Memory Interface architecture, low power motion estimation and embedded ARM microprocessor and AMBA interface, the proposed MPEG-4 video codec has low power consumption for wireless multimedia applications such as IMT-2000.

  • Advanced back-end processing requires the integration of low-k dielectrics and Cu. However, in the presence of an electric field and a temperature, positive Cu ions may drift rapidly through dielectric and causing reliability problems. Therefore, in this paper, Cu+ drift diffusion in two low-k materials and silicon oxide is evaluated. The drift diffusion is investigated by measuring shifts in the flat band voltage of capacitance-voltage measurements on Cu gate capacitors after bias thermal stressing. The Cu+ drift late in $SiO_{x}C_{y}\;(2.85{\pm}0.03)$ and Polyimide(2.7${\leq}k{\leq}3.0$) is Considerably lower than in thermal oxide.
