Development of Active Seat Suspension with 2 DOF for Agricultural Tractors(I) - Development of Control System for Active Seat Suspension - (농용트랙터를 위한 2자유도를 갖는 능동형 좌석 현가장치 개발(I) - 능동형 좌석 현가장치 제어시스템의 개발 -)

  • Various types of vibration are transmitted to operators of agricultural tractors while working in the field. Most harmful vibration to human body is ride vibrations with low frequency ranging from 1 to 10 Hz, caused by rough terrain. These ride vibration has vertical and rotational components. This study was conducted to develop an active seat suspension system with two degrees of freedoms, enabling effectively reduce vibrations in vertical and pitch motions. Therefore, a mechanism for the active seat suspension was developed, and an electro-hydraulic servo system and a controller to drive the active seat suspension system were also developed in this study. A simulation model was developed to evaluate how the active seat suspension system effectively reduce the vibrations transmitted to the base of seat. Active seat suspension was optimized to enhance the performance using the developed simulation model. The performance of the seat suspension system was evaluated according to the test codes described in EEC78/764 in order to investigate the feasibility of application to agricultural tractors. The result showed that the developed active seat suspension system could reduce the magnitude of vertical vibration up to 80% for the input vibrations according to the test codes described in EEC78/764. The system could reduce the rotational displacement of ${\pm}\;2.5$ degrees up to 50% for the pitch vibration on the average in the frequency range of 1 to 2 Hz.

  • Tests were conducted at the Florida International University (FIU) Wall of Wind (WOW) to investigate the susceptibility of Variable Message Signs (VMS) to wind induced vibrations due to vortex shedding and galloping instability. Large scale VMS models were tested in turbulence representative of the high frequency end of the spectrum in a simulated suburban atmospheric boundary layer. Data was measured for the $0^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ horizontal wind approach directions and vertical attack angles ranging from $-4.5^{\circ}$ to $+4.5^{\circ}$. Analysis of the power spectrum of the fluctuating lift indicated that vertical vortex oscillations could be significant for VMS with a large depth ratio attached to a structure with a low natural frequency. Analysis of the galloping test data indicated that VMS with large depth ratios, greater than about 0.5, and low natural frequency could also be subject to galloping instability.

  • This paper describes the design, simulation and characterization of an AA size electromagnetic energy harvester that is capable of converting environmental vibration into electrical energy. A magnetic spring technique is used to scavenge energy from low frequency external vibrations. The generator is characterized by ANSYS 2D finite element analysis, and optimized in terms of moving mass, fixed magnet size, coil width and load resistance. The optimized energy harvester is able to generate 53.5 mW of average power at 8.1 Hz resonance frequency, with a displacement of 0.5 mm.

  • Most natural river reach are approximately balanced with respect to sediment inflow and outflow. Dam construction dramatically alters this balance, creating an impounded river reach characterized by extremely low flow velocities and efficient sediment trapping. The impounded reach will accumulate sediment and lose storage capacity until a balance is again achieved, which would normally occur after the impoundment has become "filled up" with sediment and can no longer provide water storage and other benefits. This paper aims to investigate the sediment removal process in dam reservoir using simultaneously pressure flushing operation and vibrator machine. The main objective of this study is to identify the effect of vibrator in flushing cone dimensions. To achieve the objectives of present study, laboratory test have conducted under different hydraulic conditions such as two bottom outlets with diameter equal to 2" and 3", five discharges 0.23, 0.53, 1.21, 1.53 and 2.1 lit/s and only one water depth above the center of bottom outlets. Using the vibrator machine mounted into the reservoir and close to the bottom outlet, different frequency e.g. 20, 35 and 50 HZ, have been introduced to the deposited sediment at the vicinity of outlet. The results indicate that the volume and width of flushing cone are strongly affected by frequency of vibrations.   • The laser-induced fluorescence excitation spectrum of 7-amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)coumarin in a supersonic jet has been recorded in the 340-352 nm region. The electronic band origin was observed at 28622.8 cm-1. Vibrational assignments for the three fundamental low-frequency modes and eight combination bands have been made for the S1 electronic excited state. The out-of-plane vibrations of this molecule have been characterized from the low-frequency assignments of the spectrum. The periodic potential energy function for the CF3 torsion, which satisfactorily fits the observed data, were also determined to be V(Φ)=95X(1-cos3Φ)-32X(1-cos6Φ) where Φ is the torsional angle. The relatively low torsional barrier of 99 cm-1 in S1 state could be explained by the small steric interactions between the functional groups attached to a bicyclic ring.

  • This paper presents a rotordynamic analysis of the reduction gear system applied to the 250 kW super critical CO2 cycle. The reduction gear system consists of an input shaft, intermediate shaft, and output shaft. Because of the high rotating speed of the input shaft, we install tilting pad bearings, rolloer bearings support the intermediate and output shafts. To predict the tilting pad bearing performance, we calculate the applied loads to the tilting pad bearings by considering the reaction forces from the gear. In the rotordynamic analysis, gear mesh stiffness results in a coupling effect between the lateral and torsional vibrations. The predicted Campbell diagram shows that there is not a critical speed lower than the rated speed of 30,000 rpm of the input shaft. The predicted modes on the critical speeds are the combined bending modes of the intermediate and output shaft, and the lateral vibrations dominate when compared to the torsional vibrations. The damped natural frequency does not strongly depend on the rotating speeds, owing to the relatively low rotating speed of the intermediate and output shaft and constant stiffness of the roller bearing. In addition, the logarithmic decrements of all the modes are positive; therefore all modes are stable.

A Study on Vibration Reduction of an Industrial Fan (산업용 송풍기의 진동저감에 관한 연구)

  • Vibrations of a fan are often generated by mechanical unbalance magnetic force and air flow. These vibrations depend on the design of a fan the machining accuracy of each element and assembled conditions. An experimental study is carried out to reduce the vibration and noise of an industrial fan in this paper. In order to identify the vibration sources of a fan the signal analysis and system analysis are performed, It is shown that the industrial fan studied in this paper has a natural frequency at 144 Hz and resonance occurs when the running speed of the fan is 1750 rpm. The results may be helpful to design a fan with low vibration and noise.

  • Tuned Liquid damper and Tuned Liquid Column are kind of passive mechanical damper which relies on the sloshing of liquid in a rigid tank for suppressing structural vibrations. TLD and TLCD are attributable to several potential advantages - low costs ; easy to install in existing structures : effective even for small-amplitude vibrations. In this paper, the shaking table experiments were conducted to investigate the characteristics of water sloshing motion in TLD (rectangular, circular) and TLCD. The parameter obtained from the experiments were wave height, base shear force and energy dissipation. The shaking table experiments show that the liquid sloshing relies on amplitude of shaking table and frequency of tank. The TLCD was more effective control vibration than TLD.

Vortex-induced vibration of a long flexible cylinder in uniform cross-flow

  • Numerical simulations are performed of a long flexible cylinder undergoing vortex-induced vibration at a Reynolds number of 500. The cylinder is pinned at both ends, having an aspect ratio of 100 (cylinder length to cylinder diameter) and a mass ratio of 4.2 (structural mass to displaced fluid mass). Temporal and spatial information on the cross-flow (CF) and in-line (IL) vibrations is extracted. High modal vibrations up to the $6^{th}$ in the CF direction and the $11^{th}$ in the IL direction are observed. Both the CF and IL vibrations feature a multi-mode mixed pattern. Mode competition is observed. The $2^{nd}$ mode with a low frequency dominates the IL vibration and its existence is attributed to a wave group propagating back and forth along the span. Distributions of fluid force coefficients are correlated to those of the CF and IL vibrations along the span. Histograms of the x'-y motion phase difference are evaluated from the total simulation time and a complete vibration cycle representing the standing or travelling wave pattern. Correlations between the phase difference and the vibrations are discussed. Vortex structures behind the cylinder show an interwoven near-wake pattern when the standing wave pattern dominates, but an oblique near-wake pattern when the travelling wave pattern prevails.

  • In this paper, a new electromagnetic circuit is proposed for an optical pickup actuator with high sensitivity. Contrary to those of conventional actuators, the proposed circuit has two focusing coils which are diagonally placed at the front and rear of a moving part. The configuration which makes the effective length of the focusing coil longer and the moving part lighter, is helpful in increasing the sensitivity of the actuator. However, the asymmetry of the moving part by two focusing coils causes flexible node vibrations in quite low frequency range. This paper shows that the design modification of the moving part for the reconfiguration of mass moment of inertia can reduce the mode vibrations.
