Objectives : To study autonomic nervous system dysfunction of Low Back Pain(LBP) patients, using spectral analysis of Heart Rate Variability(HRV). Methods : HRV of 190 patients was measured and seperated into two groups, those with LBP(n=95) and healthy controls(n=95). HRV was measured by SA-6000(Medicore, Korea) for 5 minutes after 5 minutes' resting. Results : 1. Mean heart rate(MHRT) of the experimental group was slightly higher than that of the control group, but did not show significant difference(P=0.428). The square root of the mean squared differences of successive normal-to-normal intervals(RMSSD), logarithmic very low frequency power(Ln VLF) and low frequency power/high frequency power ratio(LH/HF ratio) were not significantly low between experimental group and control group(P=0.16, 0.130, 0.537). 2. The standard deviation of all the normal-to-normal intervals(SDNN), logarithmic total power(Ln TP), logarithmic low frequency power(Ln LF) and logarithmic high frequency power(Ln HF) were significantly low between experimental group and control group(P=0.03, 0.005, 0.001, 0.007). 3. Ln LF of acute group was significantly low compared with those of chronic group(P= 0.039). Conclusions : This study suggests the activity and imbalance of autonomic nervous system in LBP is low. Also sympathetic nervous system of acute LBP is lower than that of chronic LBP. Further study of HRV related to LBP is needed in the clinical medicine.
The maintenance of adequate folate levels in the umbilical cord blood is esential for supplying tissue requirements of fetal growth. However, there is data on folate levels in the cord blood of Korean infant. The present investigation was undertaken to determine folate levels in cord blood and aassess relationships between folate levels and pregnancy outcomes. Dietary and supplementary folate intake was obtained from thirty subjects who were in the third trimester fo pregancy . The umbilical cord blood was drawn at delivery and pregnancy outcomes for the subjects were collected from their medical records. Erythrocyte and plasma folate levels in the cord blood were analyzed. The subjects were divided into two groups ; high folate (HF, $\geq$654ng/ml) and low folate (LF, <654ng/ml) groups according to erythrocyte folate levels in cord blood. Dietary folate intake and the amount of supplemental folates were not significantly different between the two experimental groups. However, infant birth weight (3540$\pm$295g) and placental weight(910$\pm$85g) for the HF group were significantly higher(p=0.0041 and p=0.109, respectively) than those for the LF group, which were 3127 $\pm$419g and 823$\pm$80g , respectively. Although it was not significant, the gestational weight gain for the HF group was 2.8kg higher than that for the LF group. Thus, the erythrocyte folate level in the cord blood was significantly related to infant birth weight and placental weight. These results confirm that a high erythrocyte folate level in the umbilical cord blood promotes both fetal and placental growth and improves gestational weight gain as well.
To estimate the contribution of quasars on keeping the IGM ionized, building a quasar luminosity function (LF) is necessary. Quasar LFs derived from multiple quasar surveys, however, are incompatible, especially for the faint regime, emphasizing the need for deep images. In this study, we construct quasar LF reaching M1450~-21.5 AB magnitude at z ~ 5, which is 1.5 mag deeper than previously reported LFs, using deep images from the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP). We trained an artificial neural network (ANN) by inserting the colors as inputs to classify the quasars at z ~ 5 from the late-type stars and low-redshift galaxies. The accuracy of ANN is > 99 %. We also adopted the Bayesian information criterion to elaborate on the quasar-like objects. As a result, we recovered 5/5 confirmed quasars and remarkably minimized the contamination rate of high-redshift galaxies by up to six times compared to the selection using color selection alone. The constructed quasar parametric LF shows a flatter faint-end slope α=-127+0.16-0.15 similar to the recent LFs. The number of faint quasars (M1450 < -23.5) is too few to be the main contributor to IGM ionizing photons.
The Purpose of this study was to examine the effects of boxing aerobic training on resting heart rate variability (HRV) in females. The subjects for this study were performed 16 female college students that aged 19-23. The subjects were divided into two groups; boxing aerobic exercise group (9 students) and control group (7 students). Objective: The hull attached to the barley kernel can be mechanically removed thus reducing the fiber content of the barley. This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of partial dehulling on the nutrient digestibility as well as the digestible energy (DE) and metabolizable energy (ME) content of barley in pigs. Methods: Two hulled barley samples (high fiber barley [HF] and low fiber barley [LF]) with either high or low fiber contents were obtained from the Hubei and Jiangsu Provinces of China. A portion of the two barleys was mechanically dehulled (dehulled high fiber barley [DHF] and dehulled low fiber barley [DLF]). Thirty barrows (initial $BW=31.5{\pm}3.2kg$) were assigned to one of five diets in a randomized complete block design. The five diets consisted of 96.9% corn, HF, LF, DHF, or DLF supplemented with 3.1% minerals and vitamins. Each diet was fed to six barrows housed in individual metabolism crates for a 10-d acclimation period followed by a 5-day total but separate collection of feces and urine. Results: The daily loss of gross energy (GE) in feces was lower (p<0.01) for pigs fed DHF than for those fed HF. The daily N intake and fecal N loss were lowest (p<0.01) for pigs fed the corn diet. The DE and ME as well as the apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of dry matter, GE, organic matter, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) of DHF or DLF were higher (p<0.01) than the values in HF and LF, respectively while the values except the ATTD of NDF and ADF in DLF were higher (p<0.01) than the values in DHF and were comparable to corn. Conclusion: The DE and ME contents as well as the ATTD of nutrients in both DHF and DLF barley were improved compared with the HF and LF barley. Moreover, the nutritive value of DLF barley was comparable to the yellow-dent corn used in the study.
Objectives : This study investigated the effect of imbalance of autonomic nerve system on the idiopathic facial palsy by the comparison Heart Rate Variability results of Facial palsy group and healthy control group, and to clarify correlation between House-Brackmann Grade and Heart Rate Variability results. Methods : 119 idiopathic facial palsy patients and 88 health subjects who underwent HRV test were retrospectively reviewed based on medical records. We compared between the HRV results of facial palsy group and that of normal control group, and also compared the HRV results of facial palsy subgroup classified by House-Brackmann Grade. Results 1. All HRV results-Mean Heart Rat(MHRT), Standard Deviation of all the Normal RR intervals(SDNN), Total Power(TP), Very Low Frequency(VLF), Low Frequency(LF), High Frequency(HF), ratio betwween the Low Frequency and High Frequency power(LF/HF ratio) of facial palsy group are decreased compared to that of normal control group, especially SDNN, TP, VLF, LF, LF/HF ratio showed significant difference(p<0.05). 2. HRV results showed no significant correlation in House-Brackmann Grade. Conclusions : This study showed that lower HRV results of facial palsy group than normal control group and suggests that imbalance of autonomic nerve system related with facial palsy. HRV could be a objective tool to reflect condition of idiopathic facial palsy patients.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the autonomic imbalance in syncope by comparing the baseline heart rate variability (HRV) between healthy children and those with vasovagal syncope. Methods: To characterize the autonomic profile in children experiencing vasovagal syncope, we evaluated the HRV of 23 patients aged 7-18 years and 20 healthy children. These children were divided into preadolescent (<12 years) and adolescent groups. The following time-domain indices were calculated: root mean square of the successive differences (RMSSD); standard deviation of all average R-R intervals (SDNN); and frequency domain indices including high frequency (HF), low frequency (LF), normalized high frequency, normalized low frequency, and low frequency to high frequency ratio (LF/HF). Results: HRV values were significantly different between healthy children and those with syncope. Student t test indicated significantly higher SNDD values (60.46 ms vs. 37.42 ms, P =0.003) and RMSSD (57.90 ms vs. 26.92 ms, P=0.000) in the patient group than in the control group. In the patient group, RMSSD (80.41 ms vs. 45.89 ms, P =0.015) and normalized HF (61.18 ms vs. 43.19 ms, P =0.022) were significantly higher in adolescents, whereas normalized LF (38.81 ms vs. 56.76 ms, P =0.022) and LF/HF ratio (0.76 vs. 1.89, P =0.041) were significantly lower in adolescents. In contrast, the control group did not have significant differences in HRV values between adolescents and preadolescents. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that children with syncope had a decreased sympathetic tone and increased vagal tone compared to healthy children. Additionally, more severe autonomic imbalances possibly occur in adolescents than in preadolescents.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between Ryodoraku and two pattern-identification questionnaires in patients with Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS). Methods: The study participants were 30 patients with BMS who visited the Oral Diseases Clinic of Kyung Hee Oriental Medicine Hospital from June to November, 2019. The Ryodoraku test and two pattern-identification questionnaires were administered to all patients. Measurements included the average Ryodoraku score, which is called the Total Average (TA), and each score on the Ryodoraku point scale. The degree of Yin-deficiency, Qi-stagnation, and pain were assessed with the Yin-deficiency Questionnaire (YDQ), Qi-stagnation Questionnaire (QSQ), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), respectively. Results: The average TA score was 29.90. The LF5 (p=0.013) and RF5 (p=0.016) scores were lower than the TA scores, and the RH5 (p=0.020) and RH6 (p=0.006) scores were higher than the TA scores. A negative correlation was detected between the YDQ scores and the LH1 (r=-0.366, p=0.046), LH2 (r=-0.507, p=0.004), LH3 (r=-0.374, p=0.042), RH1 (r=-0.361, p=0.050), RH2 (r=-0.403, p=0.027) points. The LF5 (p=0.050) and RF2 (p=0.048) scores were lower in the patients with Qi-stagnation patients than without Qi-stagnation. Conclusions: Our results suggest that low TA and Ryodoraku scores on LF5 and RF5 and high Ryodoraku scores on RH5 and RH6 could be quantitative indicators for the diagnosis of BMS. The LH1, LH2, LH3, RH1, RH2, LF5, and RF2 scores could also be an indicators for diagnosis of Yin-deficiency and Qi-stagnation in patients with BMS.

Objective: To treat psychogenic headache patients, doctors have to amplify on the headache caused by emotional stress to patients, and assist the patients to cope with difficulties. So, we investigated HRV of the headache patients caused by Chiljungsang and would like to apply to the clinical treatment. Method: Our study measured time and frequency domain HRV indicies(5-min resting study) of 123 headache patients caused by emotional stress. Standardized tests of HRV allow a quantitative estimation of autonomic nervous system function. Results & Conclusions: 1. The study classed as aspects of the head pain showed the differences in RMS-SD(square root of mean squared difference of successive NN intervals) band, HF(high frequency) band significantly. 2. The male headache patients showed higher all the indicies except heart rate compared to the female patients, significantly in SDNN(standard deviation of NN interval), TP(total Power), HF band. 3. As the patients grow older, SDNN, RMS-SD band was lower and LF(low frequency) band, LF/HF ratio higher significantly. The beginning age lower, SDNN, RMS-SD band was higher significantly. The duration of the disease longer, LF band, LF/HF ratio was higher significantly.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between 3D visual fatigue and physiological measures by canonical correlation analysis enabling to categorical correlation. Background: Few studies have been conducted to investigate the physiological mechanism underlying the visual fatigue caused by processing 3D information which may make the cognitive mechanism overloaded. However, even the previous studies lack validation in terms of the correlation between physiological variables and the visual fatigue. Method: 9 Female and 6 male subjects with a mean age of $22.53{\pm}2.55$ voluntarily participated in this experiment. All participants were asked to report how they felt about their health sate at after viewing 3D. In addition, Low & Hybrid measurement test(Event Related Potential, Steady-state Visual Evoked Potential) and for evaluating cognitive fatigue before and after viewing 3D were performed. The physiological signal were measured with subjective fatigue evaluation before and after in watching the 3D content. For this study suggesting categorical correlation, all measures were categorized into three sets such as included Visual Fatigue set(response time, subjective evaluation), Autonomic Nervous System set(PPG frequency, PPG amplitude, HF/LF ratio), Central Nervous System set(ERP amplitude P4, O1, O2, ERP latency P4, O1, O2, SSVEP S/N ratio P4, O1, O2). Then the correlation of three variables sets, canonical correlation analysis was conducted. Results: The results showed a significant correlation between visual fatigue and physiological measures. However, different variables of visual fatigue were highly correlated to respective HF/LF ratio and to ERP latency(O2). Conclusion: Response time was highly correlated to ERP latency(O2) while the subjective evaluation was to HF/LF ratio. Application: This study may provide the most significant variables for the quantitative evaluation of visual fatigue using HF/LF ratio and ERP latency based human performance and subjective fatigue.
