A centrifugal fan design code was developed and packaged together with iDesignFan/sup TM/ as new models. This code generate centrifugal forward curved and backward curved bladed impeller optimally. It also predicts the aerodynamic performance and the overall sound pressure level of the rotating fan by assuming steady blade loading. The overall sound pressure level is used as an input parameter from the third loop of the designing process to acquire the most silent fan for the given aerodynamic performance parameters. With this kind of inverse design concept used in the code, the period of designing a fan is significantly shortened. A centrifugal fan design code, developed in this study and included in iDesignFan/sup TM/, predicts the aerodynamic performance such as design flow rate and static pressure. The aerodynamic performance in the design and off-design conditions is calculated by using the mean line analysis. For the steady loading calculation, the lift force distribution in a blade is used.

This work is to propose a structural design and analysis procedure for development of the low noise 1kW class small wind turbine system which will be applicable to relatively low speed region like Korea and for the domestic use. The proposed structural configuration has a sandwich composite structure with the E-glass/Epoxy face sheets and the Urethane foam core for lightness, structural stability, low manufacturing cost and easy manufacturing process. Structural analysis including load cases, stress, deformation, buckling, vibration and fatigue life was performed using the Finite Element Method, the load spectrum analysis and Miner rule. In order to evaluate the designed structure, the structural test was carried out and its test results were compared with the estimated results. Moreover Investigation on structural safety of tower was verified through structural analysis by FEM.
A semi-active algorithm for edgewise vibration control of the spar-type floating offshore wind turbine (SFOWT) blades, nacelle and spar platform is developed in this paper. A tuned mass damper (TMD) is placed in each blade, in the nacelle and on the spar to control the vibrations for these components. A Short Time Fourier Transform algorithm is used for semi-active control of the TMDs. The mathematical formulation of the integrated SFOWT-TMDs system is derived by using Euler-Lagrangian equations. The theoretical model derived is a time-varying system considering the aerodynamic properties of the blade, variable mass and stiffness per unit length, gravity, the interactions among the blades, nacelle, spar, mooring system and the TMDs, the hydrodynamic effects, the restoring moment and the buoyancy force. The aerodynamic loads on the nacelle and the spar due to their coupling with the blades are also considered. The effectiveness of the semi-active TMDs is investigated in the numerical examples where the mooring cable tension, rotor speed and the blade stiffness are varying over time. Except for excessively large strokes of the nacelle TMD, the semi-active algorithm is considerably more effective than the passive one in all cases and its effectiveness is restricted by the low-frequency nature of the nacelle and the spar responses.

While basic input parameters for the performance and noise of axial fan are flow rate, pressure rise, rotating speed, and fan diameter, the geometric parameters of blade are sweep angle, solidity, and camber angle. The sweep angle does not affect fan performance much, but on fan noise significantly. Solidity and camber angle are very critical design parameters acting on the fan performance directly. The solidity and camber angle are closely related, therefore they have to be carefully determined for the low-noise and high-performance fan. In This paper, different design points are selceted and also geometric parameters are deliberately changed for the comparison of fan noise. As a result, at the same performance, the input rotational speed affects radiated noise more significantly than others. When solidity and camber angle are increased more than those by iDesignFan/sup TM/ program, more noise is experienced. The blade sweep method and blade numbers at same solidity are observed to results in different levels of performance and noise.
The rise in pressure across the impeller blade of an axial flow fan depends on the angle of attack. At a low back pressure, the air volume will be large and the angle of attack is small. The gradual increase of the back pressure approached stall zone which is not stationary but travels blade to blade passage. In consequence, a region occurs around these blades with large vibration in the flow. To avoid these stall operation, the stall detector in the axial flow fans has been designed to detect stalling condition with a manometer or differential pressure switch by electric mechanism.

Recently, the wind energy has been widely used as a renewable energy resource due to lack and environmental issues of the mostly used fossil fuel. This work is to develop a 500W class small wind turbine blade which will be applicable to relatively low speed region like Korea and for the domestic use. For this blade a high efficiency wind turbine blade was designed with the proposing aerodynamic design procedure, and a light and low cost composite structure blade was designed considering fatigue life. Structural analyses including load case study, stress, deformation, buckling and vibration analysis were performed using the Finite Element Method. The fatigue life was estimated using the load spectrum analysis and the Miner rule. In order to evaluate the designed blade, the structural and aerodynamic performance tests were carried out, and the test results were compared with the analysis results.

For the past decade many effort has been delivered to understand noise generation mechanism for the small size engine cooling fan. As a result of that effort, the low noise fan such as the Wave fan was developed. Now the Wave fan becomes the well known low noise engine cooling fan. But in case of the new car development, the system in the new car will be different from previous one. So we need system optimization for every new model. In case of special application, a low speed fan should be developed to match system requirement. In that case, we meet severe engineering requirement by conducting fan system optimization instead of the simple fan scaling. In this paper, I will show you the system optimize process.

When shaving, it is easy to suffer shaving burns, that is, facial burn irritation during shaving. The reason is that the razor blade irritates the skin. The current solution is to make the razor sharper and use a razor with a blade heating function. Although these ways can increase the comfort of shaving, they will also greatly increase shaving costs. This paper proposes using a hairdryer to massage the skin before shaving to reduce skin irritation during shaving. This is a simple, practical and low-cost method. The hair dryer's heat, sound, and wind energy have a massage effect, and they can make shaving easier and more comfortable. For analyzing shaving effect, two evaluation methods are used, which are sound spectrum analysis and mos. The sound spectrum analysis is used to analyze the working status of the razor objectively. The MOS test can reflect the subjective feelings of the subject on the shaving's comfort. The results show that the hairdryer thermal vibration massage can make the beard easier to cut, thereby reducing the irritation of the razor to the skin and improving shaving comfort.

In this study, low noise designs of a Savonius wind turbines are numerically investigated. From a previous study, it was found that the high harmonic components whose fundamental frequency is higher than the BPF were found to be dominant in noise spectrum of a Savonius wind turbine. On a basis of this observation, S-shaped blade tip is proposed as a low design factors that decrease wind turbine noise by inducing phase differences in vortex shedding. The conventional Savonius and S-shaped turbines are investigated using Hybrid CAA method where flow field around the turbine are computed using CFD techniques and the radiated noise are predicted by applying acoustic analogy to the computed flow data. Noise reductions by these design factors are confirmed by comparing the predicted noise levels from these turbines.

The numerical methods including the performance analysis and the noise prediction of the centrifugal compressor impeller are coupled with the optimization design skill, which consists of response surface method, statistical approach, and genetic algorithm. The flow-field Inside of a centrifugal compressor is obtained numerically by solving Wavier-Stokes equations. and then the propagating noise is estimated from the distributed surface pressure by using Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings formulation. The quadratic response surface model with D-optimal 3-level factorial experimental design points is constructed to optimize the impeller geometry for the advanced centrifugal compressor. The statistical analysis shows that the quadratic model exhibits a reasonable fitting quality resulting in the impeller blade design with high performance and low far-field noise level. The influences of selected design variables, objective functions, and constraints on the impeller performance and the impeller noise are also examined as a result of the optimization process.
