Aims: To describe our institutional experience with high dose rate (HDR) interstitial brachytherapy (IBT) compared with previously reported results on the low dose rate (LDR) practice for head and neck cancer. Materials and Methods: Eighty-four patients with oral cavity (n=70) or oropharyngeal cancer (n=14) were treated with 192Ir HDR-IBT. Seventy-eight patients had stage I or II tumour. The patients treated with IBT alone (n=42) received 39-42 Gy/10-14 fractions (median=40 Gy/10 fractions). With respect to the combination therapy group (n=42), prescription dose comprised of 12-18 Gy/3-6 fractions (median=15 Gy/5 fractions) for IBT and 40-50 Gy/20-25 fractions (median=50 Gy/25 fractions) for external radiotherapy. Brachytherapy was given as 2 fractions per day 6 hours apart with 4 Gy per fraction for monotherapy and 3 Gy per fraction for combination therapy. Results: Four patients were not evaluable in the analysis of outcome. The primary site relapse rates were 23.8% (10/42) and 68.4% (26/38) in patients treated with IBT alone and combination therapy, respectively (p<0.001). Salvage surgery was performed in 19 patients. The 5-year local control rate was estimated at 62% and the disease-free survival (DFS) rate at 52% for all patients. Local control with respect to T1 and T2 tumours was 84% and 42%, respectively. Conclusions: Our present series on HDR-IBT and the previous report on LDR-IBT for head and neck cancer demonstrated similar DFS rates at 5 years (52%). The rate of regional failure in node-negative patients was <20% in both of our series. HDR-IBT offers similar results to LDR-IBT for head and neck cancer.

Diazinon, an organophosphate pesticide, is relatively highly toxic to fish and causes vertebral malformation and behavioral change of fish at relatively low concentrations. To elucidate biochemical mechanism of the behavioral change of Oryzias latipes (killifish) caused by diazinon, the effect of the insecticide on acetylcholine esterase activities and the levels of some neurotransmitters were evaluated. Acetylcholine esterase activities in both head and body were significantly lowered at the concentration of 10 ppb of diazinon and acetylcholine contents in head tended to be upregulated with increasing concentration of diazinon. Exposure of killifish to 5000 ppb diazinon resulted in gradual decrease in acetylcholine content in body part with exposure time. Norepinephrine and serotonin concentrations in killifish head and body were highest at 1000 ppb of diazinon while neurotransmitter were relatively low in fish unexposed or exposed to lower dose of the pesticide, suggesting that increased norepinephrine and serotonin can partially account for diazinon-induced behavioral abnormality.
This technical paper describes the analysis results of telemetry data for the initial activation of star trackers for an agile high accuracy low earth orbit satellite. The satellite was recently launched and is in the Launch and Early Operation Phases. It uses two SED36 star trackers manufactured by SODERN. The star tracker is separated by three parts, an optical head, an electronics box, and a baffle with maintaining optical head base plate temperature 20 degC in order to achieve the better performance in low frequency error. This paper presents the initial activation status, requirements and performance, anomaly occurrence, and noise equivalent angle performance analysis during the mission mode by processing the telemetry data.

In this paper we studied the application of inter-poly dielectric as silicon dioxide-like film was deposited by the higher energy assisting deposition (HEAD) process the modified CCP process, which enables low temperature (LT) process and improving film density. In these experiments the relative hydrogen concentration of $SiO_2$-like films deposited on silicon substrate were analyzed by the secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) and it was shown that our lower hydrogenated oxide (LHO) film prepared by HEAD process with the precursor contained the siloxane species had lower hydrogen concentration, $8{\times}10{\cdot}^{22}cm{\cdot}^3$ than that of the commercial undoped silicon glass (USG) film ($1{\times}10{\cdot}^{21}cm{\cdot}^3$) prepared by the high density plasma-chemical vapor deposition (HDP-CVD). We consider that the LHO film deposited by HEAD process used as high performance material into Flash memory devices.
The two main methods to prepare water samples for analyzing volatile organic compounds(VOC's) were investigated. One is the purge and trap(PT) method and another is the head space(HS) sampling method. Both methods were effective to transfer the low boiling point components from the water sample onto the capillary column. The cryo-focusing at the top of the main capillary column was an effective way to obtain the sharpness of the chromatographic peaks but could be avoided when a semi-wide bore column was used. The recovery from the same amount of the sample was better in PT than in HS but a larger sample volume in HS method could compensate the lower efficiency. Therefore PT is suitable to the analysis of drinking water where the very low concentration must be determined. HS is suitable to waste water analysis because of the easiness of the operation. The repeatability was good and similar in both methods. For the contamination of the former sample, both methods were tough and could be used without any problems. The matrix effect which could change the equilibrium parameters in HS method was find negligible in many components. The actual samples such as tap water and river water were analyzed with both methods concerning 16 components regulated in Korea.
The IHX (Intermediate Heat eXchanger) for a pool-type SFR (Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor) system transfers heat from the primary high temperature sodium to the intermediate cold temperature sodium. The upper structure of the IHX is a coaxial structure designed to form a flow path for both the secondary high temperature and low temperature sodium. The coaxial structure of the IHX consists of a central downcomer and riser for the incoming and outgoing intermediate sodium, respectively. The IHX of a pool-type SFR is supported at the upper surface of the reactor head with an IHX support structure that connects the IHX riser cylinder to the reactor head. The reactor head is generally maintained at the low temperature regime, but the riser cylinder is exposed in the elevated temperature region. The resultant complicated temperature distribution of the co-axial structure including the IHX support structure may induce a severe thermal stress distribution. In this study, the structural feasibility of the current upper support structure concept is investigated through a preliminary stress analysis and an alternative design concept to accommodate the IHTS (Intermediate Heat Transport System) piping expansion loads and severe thermal stress is proposed. Through the structural analysis it is found that the alternative design concept is effective in reducing the thermal stress and acquiring structural integrity.

Combustion stability rating tests under condition low pressure of a 75-$ton_f$ liquid rocket engine(LRE) thrust chamber were carried out. Mixing head with decreased number of injectors than that of the other but with the same mass flow rate to the combustion chamber showed self-oscillation instability in chamber pressure of 30 bar. The other combustion chamber with increased number of injectors showed that high frequency combustion stability was maintained under condition of same pressure, but self-oscillation instability was generated in chamber pressure of 20 bar which can be considered as stability boundary region of this mixing head.
Objective : Post-traumatic hydrocephalus is a complication of head injury and can present with several different clinical symptoms. However, the developing factors of post-traumatic hydrocephalus and treatment are still not well known. The authors design the study to focus on incidence, causing diseases and treatment of post-traumatic hydrocephalus. Methods : The 789patients of traumatic head injury followed by admission treatment over 7days from Jan. 1997 to Dec. 2001, were divided shunt group and shunt free group. We analyzed age, sex, causing diseases, developing time of hydrocephalus and effects of shunt operation in post-traumatic hydrocephalus. Results : The incidence of post-traumatic hydrocephalus for requiring shunt was 9.2% [64cases]. Chronic hydrocephalus which developed after 14days of injury was higher incidence [51cases]. We found following variables were significantly related to shunt-dependent hydrocephalus : low GCS score at admission, initial CT finding of traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage and intracerebral hemorrhage [including intraventricular hemorrhage]. The effect of shunt operation was not related with the spinal pressure, but had statistically significant correlation with the response of lumbar drainage. Conclusion : We conclude that development of hydrocephalus after head trauma is related to low GCS score, intracerebral hemorrhage [including intraventricular hemorrhage] and subarachnoid hemorrhage. The effect of preoperative lumbar drainage has a significant role in predicting the result of shunt operation in patient with post-traumatic hydrocephalus.

Low head, ogee spillways is popularly used to defense against floods as well as to provide water for irrigation. Spillway is also used to assess compliance with water quality regulations by controlling amount of discharge to the downstream of a channel. For the purpose of water resource management and/or environmental aspects as explained above, the flow discharge through spillways need to be correctly rated as a function of geometry and hydraulic variables. Typically, four flow conditions are encountered during the operation of spillway: (a) uncontrolled free flow (UF); (b) uncontrolled submerged flow (US); controlled free flow (CF); and controlled submerged flow (CS), and each condition has a unique rating equation. However, one of the tricky part of the spillway operation is finding correct flow type over the spillway because structures can operate under both submerged and free flow conditions, and the types are continuously changing over time depending on the amount of discharge, head water and tail water elevation. Quite obviously, if the wrong rating curve relationship is applied because of misjudgment of the flow type due to a transition, a serious error can occur. Thus, an hydraulic model study of one of spillway structure located in South Florida was conducted for the purpose of developing transition relationships. In this presentation, US to UF transition is highlighted.
