The structure and combustion characteristics, and the economic feasibility of the circulating fluidized bed combustion(CFBC) boiler using low grade coal were introduced. The economic feasibility is evaluated by comparing a 500 MW CFBC boiler power plant using low grade coal and a pulverized combustion boiler power plant with high grade coal. As the result of the evaluation, the pulverized coal combustion boiler power plant has an internal rate of return of 12.95%, 1,395.9 billion Korean won of net present value, and 6.26 years of payback period. On the other hand, CFBC boiler power plant has an internal rate of return of 13.54%, 1,704.3 billion Korean won of net present value, and 6.02 years payback period. Therefore, the CFBC boiler power plant has better feasibility in all aspects, as 0.59% higher of internal rate of return, 308.4 billion Korean won of higher net present value and 0.24 year of shorter payback period.

With the continuous increase of energy demand, low-grade coal is regarded as one of new energy sources. However, due to the high water content, the utilization efficiency of low-grade coal is not good to be used in recent conversion plants. Therefore, it requires a drying process to lower the water content in low-grade coals. Although a variety of drying experiments were conducted, drying characteristics in accordance with the pressure change has not been progressed. In this study, the flash drying characteristics of low grade coal with high moisture content (21.5 wt%) were determined in a pressurized micro-riser. The effect of operation conditions such as pressure (1-40 bar), dryer temperature ($200-600^{\circ}C$), and tube length (2-6 m) on drying ratios were investigated.
Fuel flexibility of CFBC boiler was examined. Combustion characteristics of low grade coal, coal sludge, coal RDF mixture and RDF were compared. The operation result of a commercial 130TPH CFBC co-generation boiler burning a low grade Chinese coal were analysed. Burning characteristics of coal/RDF mixture and coal and industrial sludge mixture were studied in a 0.1MWth scale CFBC test rig. Also RDF fuel were tested in a 8TPH CFBC test facility. Though fuel characteristics were different, the combustion modes were all very stable. The temperature were maintained in between $800-950^{\circ}C$.
The objects of this study were to investigate emissions of air pollutant the particles as well as the combustibility of the low grade domestic anthracite coal and imported high-calorific bituminous coal in the fluidized bed coal combustor. The production of air pollution from anthracite-bituminous coal blend combustion in a fluidized bed coal combustor was evaluated. The effects of air velocity and anthracite fraction on the reaching time of steady state condition was also evaluated. We used coal samples the domestic low grade anthracite coal with heating value of 2,010 kcal/kg and the imported high grade bituminous coal with heating value of 6,520 kcal/kg. The experimental results are presented as follows. The time of reaching to steady state was affected by the temperature variation. The steady state time was about 120 minute at 0.3 m/s which was the fastest. It has been found that $O_2$ and $CO_2$ concentration were reached steady state at about 100 minute. As the height of fluidized bed becomes higher, the concentration s of $SO_2$ and $NO_x$ mainly increased. The concentration of freeboard was the highest and emission concentration was diminished. Also, as anthracite fraction increased, the emission of $SO_x$ concentration was increased. But, it has been found that the variation of $NO_x$ concentration with anthracite fraction was negligible and the difference of emission concentration according to air flow rates was negligible, too. It has been found that $O_2$ concentration decreased and $CO_2$ concentration increased as the height of fluidized bed increased. As anthracite fraction increased, the mass of elutriation particles increased, and $CO_2$ concentration decreased. Also, as air velocity increased, $O_2$ concentration decreased and $CO_2$ concentration increased. Regardless-of anthracite fraction and flow rate, the combustible weight percentage in elutriation particles were high in the case of fine particles.
Some components in uranium-bearing formations which consist mainly of black shale, slate. and low grade coal-bearing formation of Ogcheon Belt were processed statistically in order to find out the geochemical correlations with uranium. Geochemical enrichment of uranium, vanadium and molybdenum in low grade coal-bearing formations and surrounding rocks is remarkable in the studied area. Geochemical correlation coefficient of uranium and molybdenum in the rocks displays about 0.6, and that of uranium and fixed carbon about 0.4. Uranium and vanadium in uranium-bearing low grade coals denote very high correlation with fixed carbon, which is considered to be responsible for enrichment of metallic elements, especially molybdenum. Close geochemical correlation of uranium-molybdenum couple in the rocks can be applied as a competent exploration guide to low grade uranium deposits of this area.
Efficient use of low rank coals (LRC) have been investigated as a method to cope with recent high oil price. Among the coals used in industry, lignite and sub-bituminous coals are belong to the LRC, and have abundant deposit and are distributed worldwide, but high moisture contents and self ignition properties inhibits their utilization. In this paper, chemical coal cleaning to produce ash-free coal from LRC has been investigated. Two technologies, that is, UCC(Ultra Clean Coal) process removing ash from coal and Hyper Coal process extracting combustibles from coal were compared with. UCC process has merits of simple and reliable when it compared with Hyper Coal process, but the remaining ash contents werehigher than Hyper Coal. Hyper Coal has ash contents under the 200ppm when raw coal is treated with appropriate solvent and ion exchange materials to remove alkali materials in extracted solution. The ash-free coal which is similar grade with oil can be used as alternate oil in the industry, and also used as a high grade fuel for IGCC, IGFC and other advanced combustion technology.
The effects of coal type and mixing fraction of coal on attrition and elutriation were studied in a 15. 5cm diameter fluidized bed coal combustor. The domestic low-grade anthracite coal with heating value 2010kcal/kg and the imported bituminous coal from Australia with heating value of 6520kcal/kg were used as coal sample. It was found from the experimental that the elutriation rate inclosed with an increseing anthracite mixing fraction. The size of elutriated particle had a very wide distribution was found in this experiment. The mean size of elutriated particle increased with decreaseing anthracite mixing fraction.
It has been studded that combustion and the production of air pollution of anthracite - bituminous coal blend In a fluidized bed coal combustor, The objects of thIns study were to investigate mixing characteristics of the particles as well as the combustibility of the low grade domestic anthracite coal and Imported h19h calorific bltununous coal in the fluidized bed coal combustor. They were used as coal samples ; the domestic low grade anthracite coal with heating value of 2,010kca1/kg and the Imported high grade bituminous coal with beating value of 6,520kca1/kg. Also, the effects of air flow rate and anthracite fraction on the reaching time of steady state condition have been studied. The experimental results are presented as follows. The time of reaching to steady state was affected by the temperature variation. The steady state time was about 120 minute at 300sc1h which was the fastest. It has been found that $O^2$ and $CO^2$ concentration were reached steady state at about 100 minute. It has been found that $O^2$ concentration decreased and $CO^2$ concentration increased as the height of fluidlzed bed Increased. It was found that splash zone was mainly located from 25cm to 35cm above distributor. Also, as anthracite traction Increased, the mass of elutrlatlon particles Increased, and $CO^2$ concentration decreased. As gk flow rate Increased,$O^2$ concentration decreased and $CO^2$ concentration increased. Regardless of anthracite fraction and flow rate, the uncombustible weight percentage according to average diameter of elutriation particles were approldmately high In the case of One Particles. As anthracite traction and k now rate Increased, elutriation ratio Increased. As anthracite fraction was increased, exit combustible content over feeding combustible content was Increased. Regardless of anthracite fraction, size distribution of Ued material from discharge was almost constant. Over bed temperature 85$0^{\circ}C$ and excess air 20% , the difference of combution efficiencies were little. It is estimate that the combustion condition In anthracite-bituminous coal blend combustion is suitable at the velocity 0.3m/s, bed temperature 85$0^{\circ}C$, the excess air 20%.

In this study, the experiments on optimal CO gas synthesis were conducted using low grade coal-$CO_2$ catalyst gasification reaction. The characteristics of generated CO gas were investigated using the chemical activation method of KOH, $K_2CO_3$, $Na_2CO_3$ catalysts with Kideco and Shewha coal. The preparation process has been optimized through the analysis of experimental variables such as ratio between activating chemical agents and coal, the flow rate of gas and reaction temperature during $CO_2$ conversion reaction. The produced CO gas was analysed by Gas Chromatography (GC). The 98.6% $CO_2$ conversion for Kideco coal mixed with 20 wt% $Na_2CO_3$ and 98.9% $CO_2$ conversion for Shenhua coal mixed with 20 wt% KOH were obtained at the conditions of $T=950^{\circ}C$ and $CO_2$ flow rate of 100 cc/min. Also, the low grade coal-$CO_2$ catalytic gasification reaction showed the CO selectivities(97.8 and 98.8 %) at the same feed ratio and reaction conditions.
