Preparation of Ferroelectric $YMnO_3$ Thin Films by Metal-Organic Decomposition Process and their Characterization (Metal-Organic Decomposition법에 의한 강유전성 $YMnO_3$ 박막의 제조 및 특성)

  • The ferroelectric YMnO3 thin films were prepared by MOD(metal-organic decomposition) method with Y- and Mn-acetylacetonate as starting materials. Thin films were grown on various substrates by spin-coating technique. The crystalline phases of the thin films were identified by X-ray diffractometer as a function of heat-treatment temperature, pH of coating solution and substrate. In addition, the effect of Mn/Y molar ratio(0.8~1.2) on the formation of hexagonal-YMnO3 phase was investigated. In forming highly c-axisoriented hexagonal-YMnO3 single phase, the Pt coated Si substrate was more effective than the bare Si substrate, and the optimum heat-treatment condition was at 82$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. Higher Mn/Y molar ratio within 0.8~1.2 and pH of YMnO3 precursor solution within 0.5~2.5 favored formation of ferroelectric hexagonal phase rather than orthorhombic phase. Leakage current density of the hexagonal-YMnO3 thin film formed on Pt(111)/TiO2/SiO2/Si substrate was low enough as 0.4~4.0$\times$10-8(A/$\textrm{cm}^2$) at 5 V and its remanent polarization(Pr), calculated from the P-E hysteresis loop, was 3 nC/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

Start-up Voltage Generator for 250mV Input Boost Converters (250mV 입력 부스트 컨버터를 위한 스타트업 전압 발생기)

  • This paper proposes a start-up voltage generator for reducing the minimum input supply voltage of DC-DC boost converters to 250mV. The proposed start-up voltage generator boosts 250mV input voltage to over 500mV to charge the capacitor for starting the boost converter. After the boost converter operates initially with the supply voltage charged in the capacitor, it uses its boosted output voltage for the supply voltage. Therefore, after the start-up operation, the proposed DC-DC boost converter works as the same as the conventional one. The proposed start-up voltage generator reduces the threshold voltage of the transistors by adjusting the body voltage at a low input voltage. This causes the higher clock frequency and the larger current to a Dickson charge-pump for boosting the input voltage. The proposed start-up voltage generator was implemented with a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. Its clock frequency and output voltage were 34.5kHz and 522mV at 250mV input voltage, respectively.

  • Motion Estimation(ME) has been developed to reduce temporal redundancy in digital video signals and increase data compression ratio. ME is an Important part of video encoding systems, since it can significantly affect the output quality of encoded sequences. However, ME requires high computational complexity, it is difficult to apply to real time video transmission. for this reason, motion estimation algorithms with low computational complexity are viable solutions. In this paper, we present an efficient method with low computational complexity based on spatial and temporal correlations of motion vectors. The proposed method uses temporally and spatially correlated motion information, the motion vector of the block with the same coordinate in the reference frame and the motion vectors of neighboring blocks around the current block in the current frame, to decide the search pattern and the location of search starting point adaptively. Experiments show that the image quality improvement of the proposed method over MVFAST (Motion Vector Field Adaptive Search Technique) and PMVFAST (Predictive Motion Vector Field Adaptive Search Technique) is 0.01~0.3(dB) better and the speedup improvement is about 1.12~l.33 times faster which resulted from lower computational complexity.

  • The sensorless control based on the flux linkage of PM synchronous motors has excellent position estimation characteristics at low speeds. However, a limitation arises because the integrator of flux estimator is saturated by the DC offset generated during the analog to digital conversion(ADC) process of the measured current. In order to overcome this limitation, HPF with a low cutoff frequency is used. However, the estimation performance is deteriorated (Ed- the verb deteriorate already includes the meaning of 'problem') at high speed due to the low cutoff frequency, and increasing the cutoff frequency of the HPF induces further problems of phase leading and initial starting failure at low speeds. In this paper, the cutoff frequency of HPF was synchronized to the operation frequency of the motor: at low speeds the cutoff frequency was set to low in order to reduce the phase leading of the estimated flux, and at high speeds it was set to high to raise the DC offset removal performance. As a result, the operating range was increased by 200%. Furthermore, a phase compensation algorithm is proposed to reduce the phase leading of the HPF to less than 1.5 degrees over the full operating range. The proposed sensorless control algorithm was verified by experiment with a PM synchronous motor for a washing machine.

The three dimensional measuring system for ELF magnetic fields with the multiturn loop-type sensors (멀티턴 루우프형 센서를 이용한 3차원 ELF 자장측정계)

  • With the three dimensional magnetic field measuring system dealt with in this paper, accurate measurements and analyses of extremely low frequency(ELF) magnetic fields caused by starting and/or operating electric devices and power installations can be conducted. To obtain high performance for lower frequency and spatial components without any distortion, the measuring system is designed as three dimensionally including the multiturn loop-type magnetic field sensors, differential amplifiers and active integrators. As the results of calibration experiments, the frequency response characteristics of the measuring system range from 8[Hz] to about 53[kHz] for each direction of x, y, z axes, and the response sensitivities are 9.54, 9.21, $10.89[mV/{\mu}T]$, respectively. The actual survey experiments by using an oscillating impulse current generator confirm a reliability of the proposed measuring system. Also, through the other experiments by using small-sized induction motors, the magnetic field intensities when starting and steady-state operating mark 15.8, $8.61[{\mu}T]$ as maximum value, respectively. And those intensities decrease steeply according as the measuring distance increases.

  • In this paper, a low wattage high frequency operation electronic ballast for double ended 70W metal halide lamp has been investigated As an input source of the proposed ballast, 220V, 60 Hz ac voltage is used and is converted high frequency ac voltage by power processing system. To prevent a physical destruction of the lamp from acoustic resonance phenorrenon, the proposed ballast sLWlies alternating voltage of 22kHz frequency to a metal halide lamp. It shows sorre efficacious result that reduce the start up tiIre of lamp and electric power consumption. By testing the proposed ballast, lamp voltage and lamp current are 155Vpeak, O.64A, respectively. Lamp luminous flux is 5300lm with 82W input power and ballast efficiency is 64.63 Im/w. The average starting tiIre and restriking tiIre of lamp are 3.9 and 4.5 minutes, respectively.tively.

  • This thesis proposed H-Bridge Multi-Level Inverter for Fluidized Bed Combustion Boiler Secondary Air Fan in 200MW thermal power plant. The adjustable speed drive systems improve the efficiency in lightly load condition and extend the life span of motor by limiting the over current at starting. H-Bridge Multi-level Inverter is composed of the several series low voltage power cell inverters, which have the independent isolated do link, in each phase. KEPRI(Korea Electric Power Research Institute) has successfully completed to develop, install, and commission H-Bridge Multi-level Inverter(6.6kV, 1MVA). This thesis gives a full detail about H-Bridge Multi-level Inverter, proposed boiler DCS(Distributed Control System) logic, and commissioning test result.

Fabrication of SiC Schottky Diode with Field oxide structure (Field Oxide를 이용한 고전압 SiC 쇼트키 diode 제작)

  • High voltage SiC Schottky barrier diodes with field plate structure have been fabricated and characterized. N-type 4H-SiC wafer with an epilayer of ∼10$\^$15/㎤ doping level was used as a starting material. Various Schottky metals such as Ni, Pt, Ta, Ti were sputtered and thermally-evaporated on the low-doped epilayer. Ohmic contact was formed at the backside of the SiC wafer by annealing at 950$^{\circ}C$ for 90 sec in argon using rapid thermal annealer. Field oxide of 550${\AA}$ in thickness was formed by a wet oxidation process at l150$^{\circ}C$ for 3h and subsequently heat-treated at l150$^{\circ}C$ for 30 min in argon for improving oxide quality. The turn-on voltages of the Ni/4H-SiC Schottky diode was 1.6V which was much higher than those of Pt(1.0V), Ta(0.7V) and Ti(0.7). The voltage drop was measured at the current density of 100A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ showing 2.1V for Ni Schottky diode, 1.45V for Pt 1.35V, for Ta, and 1.25V for Ti, respectively. The maximum reverse breakdown voltage was measured 1100V in the file plated Schottky diodes with 101an thick epilayer.

  • Korea dairy industry has a long and chronic problems to consume raw milk , those are surplus milk and decline the market milk consumption continued about 10 years. This study was aim to propose and to find the solution for dairy industry problems. After WTO system, with the importation of dairy products, domestic milk production has fell into the situation of excess supply and huge inventory of dried milk, the milk powder stocks have increased since 2002. That made a chronic decline milk consumption in Korea. The core of chronic problem of Korea dairy industry is the decreasing in market milk consumption. If they have a settlement of any other way using their raw milk to process and consumption to market milk, there will be a solution to solve the chronic problems in this situation. Especially, that will be a development of small farm scale natural cheese production and consume. This may be lead a situation of increase the raw milk consumption, because natural cheese making needs much of raw milk more than market milk. But there are very low technical level of farmers cheese making status, so they need a cheese making educational program for their commercial level of cheese products. Under these situation, there are needed a way out of educational system for the dairy farmers to obtain the high level of cheese making technology from the trustable and scientific organization. The natural cheese making technique of dairy farmers should be accumulated to get the consumers' solid recognition of high quality of natural cheese as LOHAS(Lifestyle Of Health And Sustainability) foods.

Characteristics of Corrosion Fatigue of High Strength Steel for Marine Weld Structure

  • Large sized marine structures are used under corrosion environment of seawater and applied by severe service loading such as an ocean current, a billow and a tempest. Marine structures are usually constructed by lots of thick wall steel pipes joining welded joints. The thickness of such as steel pipes is usually more than 40mm. The such as steels are called "Thermo-Mechanical Control Process steel (TMCP steel)" strengthened by a heat treatment in process of steel manufactures. The failure, especially crack initiation, of marine structures was starting at weld joints under service condition. Then they should be designed by basis of the fatigue strength under seawater corrosion environment of weld joints. To clarity the fatigue crack initiation behavior is important more than to clarify the crack propagation behavior on the strength design of marine structures, because it is very difficult to find out the crack initiation and propagation phenomena and then even if it will be able to find out, it is considered that the refit of the damaged parts of welded joints have a technical difficulty under the sea. Therefore, it is most important to clarify the corrosion fatigue crack initiation behavior under the seawater condition. But, there is one big difficulty to make a test for thick plate specimen, for example thicker than 40mm. Because, it is need large capacity loading apparatus to test such as thick plate specimen. In this research, the new configuration specimen for fatigue crack initiation tests was proposed. Using this new specimen, it is easy to carry out the fatigue clack initiation tests with relatively low cyclic loading and to observe a fatigue crack initiation behavior.
