The combustion characteristics using forced pulsating flow were experimentally investigated with confined premixed flames stabilized by a reward-facing step. The intermittent combustion has many merits, for instance, such as high load combustion, high heat transfer, low emission gas, compared with those of continuous combustion. For these purposes, data processing of binary image was conducted to reveal the differences between intermittent and continuous combustion. As the results, it was possible to calculate the reaction zone using OH-emission band and, therefore, showed that forced pulsating flow was useful in combustion technology.
Influence of changing combustor pressure on flame stabilization and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission in the swirl-stabilized flame with secondary fuel injection was investigated. The combustor pressure was controlled by suction at combustor exit. Pressure index ($P{\ast}=P_{abs}/P_{atm}$), where $P_{abs}$ and $P_{atm}$ indicated the absolute pressure and atmosphere pressure, was controlled in the range of $0.7{\sim}1.3$ for each equivalence ratio conditions. The flammable limits of swirl flames were largely influenced by changing combustor pressure and they showed different tendency compared with laminar flames. Emission index showed maximum value near atmospheric condition and decreased with decreasing pressure index for overall equivalence ratio conditions. R.m.s of pressure fluctuations also showed similar tendency with nitric oxide emission. By injecting secondary fuel into flame zone, the flammable limits were extended significantly. Emission index of nitric oxide and r.m.s. of pressure fluctuations were also controlled by injecting secondary fuel. The swirl flames were somewhat lifted by secondary fuel with high momentum, hence low nitric oxide emission. This NOx reduction technology is applicable to industrial furnaces and air conditioning system by adopting secondary fuel injection.
In order to achieve white emission from organic light emitting devices (OLEDs), five distinct structures were fabricated and tested. The white emission was obtained using two different color-emitting materials (yellow from rubrene-doped $Alq_3$ and blue from DPVBi) with or without a carrier-blocking layer. For enhancing the red emission, two types of devices with three-color emitting materials were fabricated. The white emission, close to the CIE coordinate of (0.3,0.3), was achieved by using two blocking layers as well that as without a blocking layer. This paper covers the subject of controlling the location of exciton recombination zone. It has been found that there is a trade-off in that the devices with three color emitting layers do not show as much luminescence efficiency compared to those with two color emitting layers, but rather, show distinct red emission in the resultant emission spectra. The highest power efficiency was measured to be 1.15lm/W at 2,000 $cd/m^2$ for a structure with two color-emitting layers.
Air-staging combustion is a relatively well-known technique to reduce NOx emission and used in combination with other techniques nowadays. However, the design variables are still selected depending upon operating circumstances. Though the fuel-rich condition of the primary combustion zone is very helpful to NOx reduction, its range is known to be restricted by the increase of carbon monoxide. However, in many cases carbon monoxide level is so low not to be the restriction at all. So we tried to expand the equivalence ratio range to the richer condition in the primary combustion zone and make the function of each burner component and its contribution to the overall NOx production clear.

The purpose of study is to obtain low-emission and high-efficiency in LPG engine with hydrogen enrichment. The test engine was named heavy-duty variable compression ratio single cylinder engine (VCSCE). The fuel supply system provides LPG/hydrogen mixtures based on same heating value. Various sensors such as crank shaft position sensor (CPS) and hall sensor supply spark timing data to ignition controller. Displacement of VCSCE is $1858.2cm^3$. VCSCE was runned 1400rpm with compression ratio 8. Spark timing was set MBT without knocking. Relative air-fuel ratio(${\lambda}$) of this work was varied between 0.76 and 1.5. As a result, i) Maximum thermal efficiency occurred at ${\lambda}$ value 1.0. It was shown that thermal efficiency was increased approximately 5% with hydrogen enrichment at same ${\lambda}$ value. ii) Engine-out carbon monoxide (CO) emissions were decreased at a great rate under LPG/hydrogen mixture fuelling. iii) Total hydrocarbon (THC) emission was much exhausted in rich zone, same as CO. But THC was exhausted a little bit more in lean zone. iv) Finally, engine-out oxides of nitrogen (NOx) was increased with ${\lambda}$ value 1.0 zone at a greater rate with hydrogen enrichment due to high adiabatic flame temperature.

The effects of fiber orientation on acoustic emission(AE) characteristics have been studied for various composite laminates. Reflection and transmission optical microscopy were used to investigate the damage zone of specimens. AE signals were classified through short time Fourier transform(STFT) as different types: AE signals with a high intensity and high frequency band were due to fiber fracture, while weak AE signals with a low frequency band were due to matrix cracking and/or interfacial cracking. Characteristic feature in the rate of hit-events having high amplitudes showed a procedure of fiber breakages, which expressed the characteristic fracture processes of notched fiber-reinforced plastics with different fiber orientations. As a consequence, the behavior of fracture in the continuous composite laminates could be monitored through nondestructive evaluation(NDE) using the AE technique.
The low NOx characteristics have been investigated to develop the combustor for micro turbine. The lean premixed combustion technology was applied to reduce the NOx emission. The test was conducted at the condition of high temperature and ambient pressure. The combustion air which has the temperature of $450\sim650K$ were supplied to the combustor through the air preheater. The temperature and emissions of NOx and CO were measured at the exit of combustor, The exit temperature and NOx were increased and CO was decreased with increasing inlet air temperature. The premixing chamber can be operated very lean condition of equivalence ratio around 0.35. The NOx was decreased with decreasing the equivalence ratio. The CO was decreased with decreasing the equivalence ratio, but the CO was increased with decreasing the equivalence ratio below 0.4. But, at the very lean condition of equivalence ratio below 0.35 both NOx and CO were increased because of the flame unstability. The NOx was decreased and CO was increased with increasing inlet air flowrate. This results can be used to determine the size of combustor. Consequently the performance of combustor shows the possibility of the application to the gas turbine system.
The concept of lean-premixed combustion in gas turbine combustor operation has become a standard in recent years as an effective means to meet stringent enviromental standards on NOx emissions. The combustion characteristics of 75 kW class lean premixed combustor were investigated at the conditions of high temperature and ambient pressure. The exit temperature and emissions of CO and NOx were measured at the center of exit plane. The high temperature air of $550K{\sim}650K$ was supplied through air preheater. As expected, experimental results indicate that NOx emission was increased and CO emission was decreased by increasing inlet air temperature. But CO emission measured at the center of exit plane was increased because of the non-uniform radial direction profiles. The Semi-Empirical Correlation method was applied to obtain the design point emissions of NOx and CO. Also the flame temperature, CO and NOx emissions were measured along the centerline of liner at 650K inlet air temperature to determine the position of dilution holes.

In this study, a quantitative review was performed on the mechanical performance, permeation resistance of concrete, and durability of surface-modified coarse aggregates (SMCA) produced using low-quality recycled coarse aggregates, the surface of which was modified using a fine inorganic powder. The shear bond strength was first measured experimentally and the interface between the SMCA and the cement matrix was observed with field-emission scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that a reinforcement of the interfacial transition zone (ITZ), a weak part of the concrete, by coating the surface of the original coarse aggregate with surface-modification material, can help suppress the occurrence of microcracks and improve the mechanical performance of the aggregate. Also, the use of low-quality recycled coarse aggregates, the surfaces of which were modified using inorganic materials, resulted in improved strength, permeability, and durability of concrete. These results are thought to be due to the enhanced adhesion between the recycled coarse aggregates and the cement matrix, which resulted from the improved ITZ in the interface between a coarse aggregate and the cement matrix.
