Some of the pressurized reactor pressure vessels used in many chemical plants are made of low alloy carbon steel plates internally clad with an austenitic stainless steel for improved anti-corrosion properties. In this study, metallurgic structure of the weld interface of A 387 Grade12Class1 low alloy carbon steel claded with A182-F321 austenitic stainless steel after thermal exposure simulation heat treatment was investigated to display a characteristic behavior of dissimilar metal weld interface with thermal exposure during service at high temperature and pressure. EPMA, STEM, vickers-hardness test were performed and the results were correlated with the microstructure. To estimate the depth of the carburized/decarburized bands quantitatively, a model for carbon diffusion was proposed. The validity of the proposed theoretical relationships was confirmed by the directly measured data from the welded parts failed during service.
The texture and microstructure in Cu/Nb added ultra low carbon steels through the different thickness layer were studied after hot rolling. It was found that the two ultra low carbon steels all show the inhomogeneity of hot rolling texture and the Cu-added ultra low carbon steel was far more inhomogeneous than Nb-added one. In the center layer, the strong ${\alpha}\;fibre,\;{\gamma}\;fibre$ textures and the shear textures including 001<110>, 111<112> were founded. Near the surface, the ${\alpha}\;fibre$ texture and the orientation texture caused by a typical plane-strain deformation condition of bcc metals were observed.
In the paper, with corrosion velocity measurement and metallographic observation on specimens after sulfuric acid/ferric sulfate boiling experiment, intergranular corrosion tendency of the new type ultra low carbon stainless steel developed by ourselves which experienced solution treatment at different temperatures was evaluated. A VHX 500 super depth field tridimensional microscope was used to observe corrosion patterns on the sample surfaces. The depth and width of grain boundary corrosion groove were measured by the tridimensional microscope, which indicated that the corrosion degrees of the samples which received solution treatment at different temperatures are quite different. Transgranular corrosion at different degree occurred along with forged glide lines. After comparison it was proved that the stainless steel treated at $1100^{\circ}C$ performs very well against intergranular corrosion.
The interface between low carbon steel and blended cement pastes containing slag was investigated using impedance spectroscopy. In addition, the pastes were characterized by several analytical methods (XRD, EDX, electrode potential, pH and ICP). The electrical behavior of the interface in the blended slag systems is correlated to its corresponding pore solution chemistry and the products present in the interface. Passivation occurred at the paste/steel interfaces, in cement pastes up to containing from 0 to 75% slag content. 100% slag paste induced corrosion of the low carbon steel, which could be explained by the influence of sulfur on the system.
Recent development of ultrafine grained (UFG) low carbon steels by using equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) and their room temperature tensile properties are reviewed, focusing on the strategies overcoming their inherent mechanical drawbacks. In addition to ferrite grain refinement, when proper post heat treatments are imposed, carbon atom dissolution from pearlitic cementite during ECAP can be utilized for microstructural modification such as uniform distribution of nano-sized cementite particles or microalloying element carbides inside UFG ferrite grains and fabrication of UFG ferrite/martensite dual phase steel. The utilization of nano-sized particles is effective on improving thermal stability of UFG low carbon ferrite/pearlite steel but less effective on improving its tensile properties. By contrast, UFG ferrite/martensite dual phase steel exhibits an excellent combination of ultrahigh strength, large uniform elongation and extensive strain hardenability.
Strength change in ultra low carbon steel carburized at $880^{\circ}C$ and $930^{\circ}C$ for 10, 30, 60 and 120 minutes was investigated. The results were analyzed by a tensile test, chemical composition analysis, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Stress in the 0.5% strain specimen in the tensile test increased as the time treated at $880^{\circ}C$ and $930^{\circ}C$ increased, because the carbon diffusion layer and the martensite of the specimen increased with increasing treatment time. Martensite was found in the ferrite region in the specimen treated at $880^{\circ}C$, which is attributed to grain boundary diffusion.

A low carbon steel, Fe-2.25%Cr steel (ASTM T22), and Fe-2.25%Cr-1.6%W steel (ASTM T23) were aluminized by hot dipping into molten Al baths. After hot-dipping, a thin Al-rich topcoat and a thick alloy layer formed on the surface. The topcoat consisted primarily of a thin Al layer that contained a small amount of Fe, whereas the alloy layer consisted of Al-Fe intermetallics such as $Al_5Fe_2$ and AlFe. Cr, Mo, and W in T22 and T23 steels reduced the thickness of the topcoat and the alloy layer, and flattened the reaction front of the aluminized layer, when compared to the low carbon steel.

The effects of boron additions in steels have long been recognized as very important, mainly with respect to hardnability of heat treatable steels. The systematics of structure and properties of boron steels will then be illustrated in the context of low-alloy steels with carbon contents raging from 0.05 to 0.25% and boron contents 0-130 ppm. we investigated the effect of the microstructure and mechanical properties with heat treatment condition of the boron-treated(0.0013 ppm) low carbon(0.2 %C) low alloy steel. The specimens were austenitised for 5 and 10, 15 min at $880{\sim}940^{\circ}C$(with/without tempered at 150, 180 and $210^{\circ}C$ for the various periods of time from 60 min to 120 min) After heat treatment, mechanical properties were measured by tensile test and hardness test. For analysis of microstructure, Optical/SEM analysis and XRD were carried out.
The o-Vanillin - Glutamine Schiff base [2-Hydroxy-3-Methoxy BenzylidineCarbomyl) -2-Butanoic Acid] was examined for low carbon steel corrosion inhibition in acid media. Weight loss studies were carried out at three different temperatures to determine the inhibition efficiency (IE). Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy revealed that the charge transfer resistance controlled the corrosion reaction and Tafel polarization indicated that the Schiff base acts as mixed mode of inhibitor. SEM images were recorded for the surface morphology of the low carbon steel surface. DFT studies revealed corrosion control mechanisms using quantum chemical parameters such as EHOMO, ELUMO, energy gap (∆E), chemical Hardness (η), chemical Softness (σ), Electronegativity (χ), and the fraction of electron transferred (∆N), which is calculated using Gaussian software 09. The gas-phase geometry was fully optimized in the Density Functional Theory (DFT/B3LYP-6-31G (d)).The DFT results are in good agreement with the experimental results. All the results proved that the Schiff Base (2-Hydroxy-3-Metoxy BenzylidineCarbomyl) -2-Butanoic is a suitable alternative for corrosion inhibition of low carbon steel in acid media.
The high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels have low carbon contents (0.05~0.25% C) in order to produce adequate formability and weldability, and they have manganese contents up to 1.7%. Small quantities of silicon, chromium, nickel, copper, aluminum, molybdenum are used in various combinations. The results contained in this paper can provide the valuable information on the development of $-40^{\circ}C$ low temperature HSLA. Furthermore, the present experimental data will provide important database for casting steel materials of the offshore structure.
