Flexural analysis of steel fibre-reinforced concrete members

  • A numerical approach for the evaluation of the flexural response of Steel Fibrous Concrete (SFC) cross-sections with arbitrary geometry, with or without conventional steel longitudinal reinforcing bars is proposed. Resisting bending moment versus curvature curves are calculated using verified non-linear constitutive stress-strain relationships for the SFC under compression and tension which include post-peak and post-cracking softening parts. A new compressive stress-strain model for SFC is employed that has been derived from test data of 125 stress-strain curves and 257 strength values providing the overall compressive behaviour of various SFC mixtures. The proposed sectional analysis is verified using existing experimental data of 42 SFC beams, and it predicts the flexural capacity and the curvature ductility of SFC members reasonably well. The developed approach also provides rational and more accurate compressive and tensile stress-strain curves along with bending moment versus curvature curves with regards to the predictions of relevant existing models.

  • It is generally known that the automotive road wheel involves the non-proportional multiaxial loading condition, therefore the measuring dynamic stress and strain in driving state is very important to predict an endurance characteristic of the automotive road wheel. In this study, the ultimate driving test using F1 circuit with respect to 2 kinds of velocity conditions have been carried out in order to measure dynamic stress, strain of the wheel and acceleration of a vehicle. Based on the measured results, the characteristics of dynamic stress generation have been analyzed, and factors which have effect on the dynamic stress generation have been studied.

Modeling of an embedded carbon nanotube based composite strain sensor

  • Carbon nanotube strain sensors, or so called "fuzzy fiber" sensors have not yet been studied sufficiently. These sensors are composed of a bundle of fiberglass fibers coated with CNT through a thermal chemical vapor deposition process. The characteristics of these fuzzy fiber sensors differ from a conventional nanocomposite in that the CNTs are anchored to a substrate fiber and the CNTs have a preferential orientation due to this bonding to the substrate fiber. A numerical model was constructed to predict the strain response of a composite with embedded fuzzy fiber sensors in order to compare result with the experimental results obtained in an earlier study. A comparison of the numerical and experimental responses was conducted based on this work. The longitudinal sensor output from the model matches nearly perfectly with the experimental results. The transverse and off-axis tests follow the correct trends; however the magnitude of the output does not match well with the experimental data. An explanation of the disparity is proposed based on microstructural interactions between individual nanotubes within the sensor.

프레스 가공성 평가를 위한 반타원체 펀치 장출 시험 (Hemi-spheroidal Punch Stretching Test for Evaluation Press Formability)

  • Hemi-spheroidal punch stretching test was developed to evaluate the press formability of sheet materials. In the plane strain stretching tests our specially designed hemi-spheroidal head punch were used. In the experiment the circular sheet blanks with parallel edge sides are uniformly stretched up to fracture by raising these punches to assure plane strain stretching deformation along the longitudinal direction of the specimens. The press formability was evaluated by limit punch height(LPH) and minor strain mea-surement around the fracture area. Compared with the hemi-spherical punch and the hemi-cylindrical one our hemi-spheroidal punch was more useful in the experimental reproduction and reliance for press formability test.

On the analysis of delamination in multilayered inhomogeneous rods under torsion

  • The present paper is focused on analyzing the delamination of inhomogeneous multilayered rods of circular cross-section loaded in torsion. The rods are made of concentric longitudinal layers of individual thickness and material properties. A delamination crack is located arbitrary between layers. Thus, the internal and external crack arms have circular and ring-shaped cross-sections, respectively. The layers exhibit continuous material inhomogeneity in radial direction. Besides, the material has non-linear elastic behavior. The delamination is analyzed in terms of the strain energy release rate. General solution to the strain energy release rate is derived by considering the energy balance. The solution is applied to analyze the delamination of cantilever rod. For verification, the strain energy release rate is derived also by considering the complementary strain energy.

Multilayered viscoelastic beam loaded in torsion under strain-path control: A delamination analysis

  • This paper is focused on the delamination analysis of a multilayered beam structure loaded in torsion under strain-path control. The beam under consideration has a rectangular cross-section. The layers of the beam are made of different viscoelastic materials which exhibit continuous inhomogeneity in longitudinal direction. Since the delamination is located inside the beam structure, the torsion moments in the two crack arms are obtained by modeling the beam as an internally static undetermined structure. The strain energy stored in the beam is analyzed in order to derive the strain energy release rate (SERR). Since the delamination is located inside the beam, the delamination has two tips. Thus, solutions of the SERR are obtained for both tips. The solutions are verified by analyzing the beam compliance. Delamination analysis with bending-torsion coupling is also performed. The solutions derived are timedependent due to two factors. First, the beam has viscoelastic behavior and, second, the angle of twist of the beam-free end induced by the external torsion moment changes with time according to a law that is fixed in advance.

차량의 이동하중과 하중형태가 연성 포장의 거동 특성에 미치는 영향 평가 (Effects of Moving Dynamic Vehicle Loads on Flexible Pavement Response)

  • 일반적으로 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장의 수치해석은 순간적으로 최대 하중이 재하 되는 크리프 컴플라이언스(creep compliance) 개념을 가지고 수행되지만 실제 차량의 하중은 시간에 따라 크기가 변화하게 된다. 따라서 본 연구에서 차량의 이동 속도를 변화(25km/hr, 50km/hr, 80km/hr)시키며 현장의 포장 거동을 측정하고, 비선형 접지압력과 차량의 이동속도를 고려한 3차원 유한요소해석으로부터 얻어진 포장의 예측 거동을 비교 분석하였다. 현장거동에서 차량의 중간바퀴와 뒷바퀴에서 발생하는 횡방향 변형률과 종방향 변형률이 아스팔트 콘크리트 기층 하부에서 약 40%정도 차이가 나는 것으로 나타났으며 예측거동에서도 유사한 경향을 보여주었다. 그러나 예측거동의 경우 재료의 점탄성을 고려하지 못하고, 실제 하중의 이동을 완벽하게 고려하지 못했기 때문에 임계지점으로 차량이 접근하는 경우와 접근후에 대해서 정확한 설명이 힘든 것으로 나타났다.

A Longitudinal Investigation of the Moderating Effect of Social Support on Job Strain Developing Non-Specific Neck Pain in Office Workers

  • Purpose: This study examined the interactions between the job strain and social support in the workplace on the development of workrelated neck pain in office workers. Methods: The participants included 62 office workers without neck pain over the last twelve months. A battery of measures evaluating the potential workplace risk factors in office settings were conducted at the baseline, and at the 12 month incidence of work-related neck pain was reported via monthly questionnaires. Survival analysis evaluated the interaction effect between job strain and social support on the development of work-related neck pain. Results: The incidence of work-related neck pain was 1.91 (95% CI: 1.06 - 3.45) per 100 person months. The interaction effect between job strain and social support found that job strain may increase the risk of developing new work-related neck pain when lower social support existed in the workplace. On the other hand, the adverse effects of job strain on the development of neck pain were not significant when workers had higher social support from their colleagues and supervisors. Conclusion: An investigation of the moderating effects of risk factors on neck pain might reveal the unexplained relationship between the risk factors for the development of neck pain in office workers. Therefore, the interest in prevention plans and treatments should involve a comprehensive understanding of the risk factors at workplace.

Monitoring of bridge overlay using shrinkage-modified high performance concrete based on strain and moisture evolution

  • High performance concrete (HPC) has been extensively used in thin overlay for repair purpose due to its excellent strength and durability. This paper presents an experiment, where the sensor-instrumented HPC overlays have been followed by dynamic strain and moisture content monitoring for 1 year, under normal traffic. The vibrating wire and soil moisture sensors were embedded in overlay before construction. Four given HPC mixes (2 original mixes and their shrinkage-modified mixes) were used for overlays to contrast the strain and moisture results. A calibration method to accurately measure the moisture content for a given concrete mixture using soil moisture sensor was established. The monitoring results indicated that the modified mixes performed much better than the original mixes in shrinkage cracking control. Weather condition and concrete maturity at early age greatly affected the strain in concrete. The strain in HPC overlay was primarily in longitudinal direction, leading to transverse cracks. Additionally, the most moisture loss in concrete occurred at early age. Its rate was very dependent on weather. After one year, cracking survey was carried out by vision to verify the strain direction and no cracks observed in shrinkage modified mixes.

주기하중을 받는 세장한 철근콘크리트 보의 길이방향 인장변형 (Longitudinal Elongation of Slender Reinforced Concrete Beams Subjected to Cyclic Loading)

  • 휨항복 이후 주기하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 부재(보와 전단벽)에서는 길이방향의 인장변형이 누적된다. 이러한 길이방향 인장변형은 철근 콘크리트 부재의 강도 및 변형능력을 저하시킬 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 비선형 트러스 모델해석을 통하여 철근콘크리트 부재에 발생되는 길이방향 인장변형의 메커니즘을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 길이방향 인장변형은 소성힌지의 길이방향 철근에 발생되는 잔류인장소성변형으로 인하여 발생되고, 대각 콘크리트 스트럿의 전단력 전달 메커니즘이 길이방향 인장변형의 크기에 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석결과를 토대로 주기거동 동안 철근콘크리트 부재에 누적되는 길이방향 인장변형을 평가할 수 있는 간단한 평가식을 제안하고, 다양한 재하이력을 갖는 보 실험결과와 비교되었다.
