Longitudinal shear modulus of continuous fiber reinforced 2-phase composites is predicted by theoretical and numerical analysis methods. In this paper, circular, hexagonal and rectangular shapes of reinforced fiber are considered using unit cell concept. And fiber array is regular rectangular and hexagonal fiber arrangement. Longitudinal shear modulus is a function of fiber distribution pattern and fiber volume change. It is found that the rectangular array has a higher longitudinal shear modulus than the hexagonal one. Also, the rectangular fiber shape in lower fiber volume fraction and the circular fiber shape in higher fiber volume fraction show the higher longitudinal shear modulus. And it has been found that the theoretical and numerical predictions of the longitudinal shear modulus give a good agreement with the experimental data at lower fiber volume fraction. Both the distance and stress transfer between the fibers are discussed as the major determing factors.
The purposes of this study is to verify the fracture characteristic of steel which is manufactured in Korea, subjected to cyclic loading. This investigation deals with the low cycle fatigue behavior of longitudinal reinforcement in reinforced concrete bridge substructure (piles and columns of piers). Eighty-one specimens of longitudinal reinforcement were tested under axial strain controlled reversed cyclic tests with strain amplitudes. The selected test variables are ratio of tension strain to compression strain, yield stress of longitudinal reinforcement, ratio of diameter of longitudinal steel to clear length of longitudinal steel, size of longitudinal steel and strain amplitudes. Low cycle fatigue behavior and low-cycle fatigue life are investigated and discussed in this paper.
The characteristics of the longitudinal velocity in a $180^{\circ}$ constant-radius, recirculating laboratory channel were investigated. Three-dimensional velocity fields were measured using a side-looking ADV. The shortcomings of existing equations for longitudinal velocity are discussed. An eddy viscosity model is adopted in the downstream momentum equation. A mathematical equation was developed to describe the vertical distribution of longitudinal velocity. The comparisons of the longitudinal velocity show generally good agreement. It is found that the curvature change in the curved channel affects the vertical location of maximum velocity and the vertical profile of longitudinal velocity.

In this paper, longitudinal static stability is investigated, which is an essential requirement for the safety and the performance of the human powered hydrofoil boat (HPHB). In case a disturbance changes the trim angle of the boat, the derivative of the moment about the center of gravity must be negative in order to make the boat to be stable. The equation to evaluate the longitudinal static stability of the EPISODE, a HPHB of Chungnam National University with a height controlling system(HCS) is derived. From the derivative it is confirmed that a longitudinal and vertical position of the center of gravity is important for a HPHB. The range of a trim angle while the boat is foil-born was found with a HCS under the condition of mechanical restraint. And it is confirmed that the longitudinal static stability is satisfied for EPISODE in certain range of a trim angle. It is also shown that the longitudinal static stability and a range of the trim angle can be determined from the principal dimensions of a HPHB, therefore, it can be applied from the stage of the conceptual design of HPHB.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the longitudinal causal relationship between caregiver relations and peer relations of children in out-of-home care. We analyzed the three years(2011-2013) of longitudinal data from the Panel Study on Korean Children in Out-of-Home Care. The autoregressive cross-lagged model (ARCL) was used to measure the longitudinal causal relationship between caregiver relations and peer relations. As a result, first, caregiver relations and peer relations showed stability over time. In other words, the results of the measurement at three time points showed that the caregiver relations and peer relations at the previous time had a significant effect on the caregiver relations and peer relations at the later time point. Second, the previous caregiver relations had a significant effect on the subsequent peer relations over time. Third, the previous peer relations had a significant effect on the subsequent caregiver relations over time. This study confirmed the interrelationships of caregiver relations and peer relations of children in care by examining the longitudinal data using the longitudinal analysis method.
Reasonable estimates of tunnel lining dislocations in the operation stage, especially under longitudinal differential settlement, are important for the design of waterproof gaskets. In this paper, a modified shell-joint model is proposed to calculate shield tunnel dislocations under longitudinal differential settlement, with the ability to consider the nonlinear shear stiffness of the joint. In the case of shell elements in the model, an elastoplastic damage constitutive model was adopted to describe the nonlinear stress-strain relationship of concrete. After verifying its applicability and correctness against a full-scale tunnel test and a joint shear test, the proposed model was used to analyze the dislocation behaviors of a shield tunnel in Shanghai Metro Line 2 under longitudinal differential settlement. Based on the results, when the tunnel structure is solely subjected to water-earth load, circumferential and longitudinal joint dislocations are all less than 0.1 mm. When the tunnel suffers longitudinal differential settlement and the curvature radius of the differential settlement is less than 300 m, although maximum longitudinal joint dislocation is still less than 0.1 mm, the maximum circumferential joint dislocation is approximately 10.3 mm, which leads to leakage and damage of the tunnel structure. However, with concavo-convex tenons applied to circumferential joints, the maximum dislocation value reduces to 4.5 mm.

In this paper we propose a mixed-effects least squares support vector regression (LS-SVR) for longitudinal data. We add a random-effect term in the optimization function of LS-SVR to take random effects into LS-SVR for analyzing longitudinal data. We also present the model selection method that employs generalized cross validation function for choosing the hyper-parameters which affect the performance of the mixed-effects LS-SVR. A simulated example is provided to indicate the usefulness of mixed-effect method for analyzing longitudinal data.
Both longitudinal data and survival data are collected simultaneously in longitudinal data which are observed throughout the passage of time. In this case, the effect of the independent variable becomes biased (provided that sole use of longitudinal data analysis does not consider the relation between both data used) if the missing that occurred in the longitudinal data is non-ignorable because it is caused by a correlation with the survival data. A joint model of longitudinal data and survival data was studied as a solution for such problem in order to obtain an unbiased result by considering the survival model for the cause of missing. In this paper, a joint model of the longitudinal zero-inflated count data and survival data is studied by replacing the longitudinal part with zero-inflated count data. A hurdle model and proportional hazards model were used for each longitudinal zero inflated count data and survival data; in addition, both sub-models were linked based on the assumption that the random effect of sub-models follow the multivariate normal distribution. We used the EM algorithm for the maximum likelihood estimator of parameters and estimated standard errors of parameters were calculated using the profile likelihood method. In simulation, we observed a better performance of the joint model in bias and coverage probability compared to the separate model.
The longitudinal steel connection of reinforced concrete bridge column is sometimes practically unavoidable, however the current Korean bridge design specifications have no special provisions about lap-splices of longitudinal steel. This paper reports experimental results of a research program investigating the seismic performance of circular RC bridge columns with respect to longitudinal steel connection detailing. Twenty-one circular column specimens were tested under quasi-static test. The columns with the entire longitudinal steel lap-spliced within plastic hinge region show relatively sudden strength degradation and low ductility than the columns with continuous longitudinal steel and the columns with half of longitudinal steel lap-spliced. However, the seismic performance of the column with mechanically connected longitudinal steel is similar to that of the column with continuous longitudinal steel. The final objectives of this study are to suggest appropriate longitudinal reinforcement connection details for the limited ductility design concept and to provide quantitative reference data and tendency for performance or damage assessment based on the performance levels such as cracking, yielding, collapse, etc. Ultimate displacement/drift ratio, displacement ductility, response modification factor, equivalent viscous damping ratio, residual deformation index, and effective stiffness are investigated and discussed in this paper.
In order to elucidate systematically the effects of serotonin on gastric motility of guinea-pig, the contractile and electrical responses to serotonin were recorded using four kinds of muscle strips prepared from antral circular, antral longitudinal, fundic circular, and fundic longitudinal muscles. Experiments were performed using various methods including isometric contraction recording, transmural electrical field stimulation, junction potential recording, intracellular microelectrode technique, and partition stimulation method. The results were as follows: 1) The effect of serotonin on spontaneous contractions was inhibitory in the circular muscle strips of the antrum and fundus, while it was excitatory in the longitudinal muscle strips of the antrum and fundus. Serotonin changed mainly phasic contractions of both the circular and longitudinal muscle strips in the antrum, while it changed mainly tonic contractions of both the circular and longitudinal muscle strips in the fundus. 2) On the contractions induced by transmural nerve stimulation, serotonin decreased the amplitude in the circular muscle strips of the antrum, but it increased them in the other three groups of muscle strips(antral longitudinal, fundic circular, and fundic longitudinal). 3) On the contractions induced by direct muscle stimulation, serotonin decreased the amplitude in the circular muscle strips of the antrum and fundus. 4) In the fundic circular muscle strips serotonin potentiated excitatory junction potentials (EJPs), and in the antral circular muscle strips it evoked EJPs after inhibitory junction potentials(IJPS). 5) In the antral circular muscle strips serotonin did not affect the slow wave even at the disappearance of spontaneous contractions. On the contrary it increased the amplitude of the slow wave, when the spike component was potentiated and the second component was inhibited. 6) In the antral circular muscle strips the membrane potential was slightly hyperpolarized, but the membrane resistance was not changed. From the above results following conclusions could be made. 1) Serotonin inhibits spontaneous contractions of the circular muscle layer and it increases those of the longitudinal one, irrespective of the gastric region. 2) In the guinea-pig stomach there exists a serotoninergic facilitatory neuromodulation system which exerts its effect on cholinergically mediated contraction. 3) The excitation-contraction decoupling was observed in the effect of serotonin.
