The purpose of this study is to suggest the minimum distance needed between landscape trees and apartment buildings. in order for the trees to grow soundly and maintain constant growth. Therefore, this study investigated and analyzed the present conditions of the green-spaces contiguous to apartment buildings and the trees inside the apartment complex. The following general problems were identified : (1) the tree growth conditions, (2) the planting intervals, and (3) the planting methods in the apartment complexes. The method of this study was to survey areas, measure the trees and analyze the results. Ten apartment complexes located in Seoul were randomly selected for this study. To analyze the greens contiguous to the building of each apartment complex, the greens were divided into three types, including the front greens, the side greens, and the rear greens. The study surveyed the width of all contiguous greens and the distance from trees to my given building. Four representative sites were specifically investigated to measure the crown widths, heights, and diameters of the trees. These investigations were carried out over 3 months from August to December 2006. According to the results of the study, it was found that the greens are narrower in width and the more closer to a building. The study identified a correlation between the tree and the passage of time after the completion of construction of an apartment complex, showing that the malformation of the trees worsened as time passed. As a result of measuring the right crown and left crown width with the tree trunk as the center, a broad difference was found between coniform trees and trees that tend to branch out more. For example, the ratio of the width of the Acer palmatum is 1:6. However, the ratio of the Metasequoia glyptostroboide is 1:1.7. Based on the overall analysis, it was concluded that the maintained minimum width must be greater than one meter over the green space according to the 'Landscape Standard 2000'. However, that is only applicable to cases such as apartment buildings that present no obstacles. In conclusion having greens placed within one meter of width to a building is not an appropriate environment for the healthy growth of trees. To create sound green spaces, sustainable, long-term growth rate and size should be considered. It is necessary to prepare new standards for the computation of planting trees and the measurement of square landscapes. Wall greenery and shrubberies could be an alternative in the case of a narrow-width green space.
Objective: The purpose of this study were to examine the growth pattern of weak children by measurement according to the five weak symptoms (respiratory, digestive, psycho-neurological, neuromotor, urogenital symptom). Five weak symptoms are common etiology of short stature in childhood and oriental medicine therapy is used as a treatment in short stature but the effects on height are not conclusive. Methods: This clinical study had been carried out with the 166 case (male 74, female 92) of the children aged 3 to 18 years old who visited in growth clinic of Pediatrics, Dongguk university Bundang Oriental Hospital. They were divided into 3 groups by age (3-10, 11-14, 15-18 years group) Five weak symptoms were studied to determine the association with growth stature among children by comparison with the growth stature of weak children group and normal group Results: The distribution of age showed the highest in 11-14 years(58.4%), followed by I 3-10 years (26.5%), over 15years(15%) in order. In case of male, the distribution of five weak symptoms showed the highest respiratory weak symptom(68.9%), followed by digestive(52.7%), psycho-neurological(43.2%), neuromotor(24.3%), urogenital weak symptom (143.5%) and digestive weak children's Height SDS were lower than normal children in all age groups and respiratory weak children's Height SDS were lower than normal children in age group of 3-10. In case of female, the distribution of five weak symptoms showed the highest digestive weak symptom(59.8%), followed by respiratory(52.5%), psycho-neurological(51.5%), neuromotor (35.9%), urogenital weak symptom (25%) and digestive weak children's Height SDS were lower than normal children in age group of 3-14. Other weak children Height SDS were no significant difference from normal group. Conclusions: From the above result, it was suggested that weak symptoms is cause in short stature. These data indicate that the height was correlated with respiratory, digestive weak symptom and a way to improve the weakness increased significantly height in children growth stature. Growth stature should be investigated as a new field of oriental medical treatment and more controlled, long term studies are required to classify benefits of Oriental medicine therapy in short stature.
This study evaluated the relative efficiency of mobile emission reduction countermeasures through a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach and determined the priority of countermeasures based on the efficiency. Ten countermeasures currently applied for reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution materials were selected to make a scenario for evaluation. The reduction volumes of four air pollution materials(CO, HC, NOX, PM) and three greenhouse gases($CO_2$, $CH_4$, $N_2O$) for the year 2027, which is the last target year, were calculated by utilizing both a travel demand forecasting model and variable composite emission factors with respect to future travel patterns. To estimate the relative effectiveness of reduction countermeasures, this study performed a super-efficiency analysis among the Data Envelopment Analysis models. It was found that expanding the participation in self car-free day program was the most superior reduction measurement with 1.879 efficiency points, followed by expansion of exclusive bus lanes and promotion of CNG hybrid bus diffusion. The results of this study do not represent the absolute data for prioritizing reduction countermeasures for mobile greenhouse gases and air pollution materials. However, in terms of presenting the direction for establishing reduction countermeasures, this study may contribute to policy selection for mobile emission reduction measures and the establishment of systematic mid- and long-term reduction measures.

On the basis of the radiotracer technology and the related equipments which have been developed for its industrial application through the nuclear long-term research project, a radiotracer study on sediment transport was carried out as a part of the development of the radiotracer technology for a coastal environment. The crystalline material doped with iridium having a similar composition and specific gravity as those of the bedload sand collected from the research area was produced by the oxide-route method. A radioisotope container was specially designed to inject the radiotracer from 1 m above the sea bedload without radioactive contamination during the transport from the nuclear reactor at KAERI. The position data from the DGPS and the radiation measurement data were collected concurrently and stored by means of the application software programmed with the LabVIEW of the National Instrument. The position data was reprocessed to represent the real position of the radiation probe under water and not that of the DGPS antenna on board. The time dependency of the spatial distribution of the sediment was studied in the area through three tracking measurements after the iridium glass was injected. This trial application showed the potential of the radiotracer technology as an important role for maintaining and developing the coastal environment in the future.

To make an assessment of the compatibility between DOAS and conventional point monitoring system (MCSAM-2: MS2), we investigated the concentrations of three criteria pollutants which include S $O_2$, N $O_2$, and $O_3$from a national monitoring station in Seoul during the periods of June 1999~August 2000. The average concentration values for the whole study period derived from hourly concentration data sets of those three species indicated that the mean differences between the two methods can be approximated as 18%. When the bias structure of two systems was evaluated through the computation of percent difference(PD) between the two such as ( $C_{DOAS}$- $C_{conventional}$$C_{DOAS}$*100, differences between the two systems appeared to be quite systematic among different compounds. While the mode of bias peaked at 0~20% or 20~40% in terms of PD values, the cause of such positive bias mainly arised from generally enhanced concentration values of DOAS system. The structure of bias among different species was further assessed through linear regression analysis. Results of the analysis indicated that the dominant portions of differences observed from two monitoring systems can be accounted for by the systematic differences in their spanning and zeroing systems. S $O_2$(MS2)=0.6385 S $O_2$(DOAS)+2.0985($r^2$=0.7894) N $O_2$(MS2)=0.6548 N $O_2$(DOAS)+7.437($r^2$=0.7687) $O_3$(MS2)=1.0359 $O_3$(DOAS)-7.7885($r^2$=0.7944) The findings of slope values at around 0.64~0.65 from two species suggest that DOAS should respond more sensitively in upper bound concentration range. The offset values apart from zero indicate that more deliberate comparison needs to be made between these monitoring systems. However, based on the existence of strong correlations from at least 8,000 data points for each species of comparison, we were able to conclude that the compatibility of two monitoring systems is highly significant. With the improvement of calibration techniques for the DOAS system. its applicability for routine monitoring of airborne pollutant species is expected to be quite extendable.

Background: We evaluated whether providing health risk appraisal for Koreans (KHRA) in terms of 'health age' during smoking cessation program would effectively help smokers quit smoking or not. Materials and Methods: A total of 332 male smokers aged between 30-65 years old, registered for a smoking cessation program in a public health center in a city, were recruited and underwent a baseline survey from January 2010 to February 2011. They were then prospectively randomized to a conventional counseling group (n=165) or a KHRA group (n=167), and received conventional counseling or KHRA-based counseling for six months. Abstinence rates were identified through carbon monoxide measurement (at the $4^{th}$ and $24^{th}$ weeks) or urinary cotinine level (at the $12^th$ week). Results: The abstinence rate confirmed by exhaled carbon monoxide was significantly higher in the KHRA group (61.1%) than the control group (49.1%) at the $4^{th}$ week (absolute difference 12.0%, 95% CI: 1.4%-22.6%). However, there was no difference in abstinence rates between the two groups at the 12th and 24th weeks. The predicting factors of 24 week's smoking cessation success were age, older than 50 years old (OR 2.02, 95% CI: 1.16-3.52), lower Fagerstr$\ddot{o}$m Test for Nicotine Dependence score less than 4 (OR 1.84, 95% CI: 1.03-3.29), and higher Self Efficacy/Temptation score (OR 1.79, 95% CI: 1.05-3.06). Conclusions: Smoking cessation counseling with KHRA could be effective compared to conventional counseling in the short period of smoking cessation. Further study is needed to evaluate the long-term efficacy of KHRA in tobacco dependence treatment and to establish the indication and target population of this tool.
Purpose - Economic status at an early stage of life after one's retirement is often determined by the long-term sacrifice of one's earlier consumption tendencies. In general, the first and foremost way to secure income after retirement is through annuity savings. People sign up for personal annuity savings in order to guarantee a stable economic life upon retirement, and such actions may be heavily influenced by self-efficacy. Confidence in current economic activity is a source of rational decision-making. Inability to achieve self-control can lead to reckless spending and the eventual hindering of proper investment for the future. This paper examines how self-efficacy and self-control affect the intention and action of enrolling in an annuity savings plan in relation to one's level of financial literacy. Research design, data, and methodology - To analyze the proposed model, this study investigates financial consumers over the age of 20. The data were collected from 511 respondents and analyzed with SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. First, for the one-dimensional test and to measure the convergent validity of each structure, we use the scale purification process. The results of the test and the confirmatory factor analysis ensure the focus of the validity of the single dimension for each structure. In addition, the validity of the measurement was guaranteed from the results of correlation analysis. Results - First, self-efficacy and self-control have positive effects on the purchasing intention of the personal annuity savings plan. Second, purchasing intention positively affects purchasing behavior. Lastly, self-control has a positive effect on purchasing intention among the low financial literacy group, whereas self-efficacy does not have this effect in the high financial literacy one. Conclusions - The time of product benefit is different with age. The younger group would be granted the savings after several decades once they enroll, whereas the older group would wait for a relatively shorter period of time. Therefore, further research should be conducted in order to verify such a difference. However, this study has value through its confirmation that the roles of self-efficacy and self-control play a part in leading to the enrollment in annuity savings plans and by verifying different effects based on levels of financial literacy. Such results suggest a number of implications in a real life setting. First, banks need to put greater emphasis on the stability of annuity savings in general. Second, customers with relatively low levels of financial literacy are able to control their finances through annuity savings, but find self-efficacy difficult due to a lack of financial understanding. Therefore, such customers should be approached from an invest-effectiveness comparison method. Third, customers with high financial literacy tend to put more value in rational economic decision-making and behavior than in self-efficacy. Therefore, such customers should be approached by promoting the reliability of annuity savings and the excellence of the specific bank's annuity savings plan in comparison to those of other financial institutions.

This study was undertaken to obtain design concentrations for the natural system treating stream water flowing into estuarine lake(Sapgyo). This lake has three major, so called, national-class streams: one is Gokgyo flowing through two medium-size municipal areas and the others are Muhan and Sapgyo placed in mostly rural area nested with some small towns. The results of three year's investigation showed big changes in water quality during the period between dry and wet seasons. Nitrogen concentration usually decreases as the flow rate increases. The change of phosphorus concentration in Gokgyo was the same pattern as nitrogen, but in other two streams it was inversely related with flow rates. This is probably due to the chemical property of the particles washed out from the different stream basins during wet season. It was found that about 40 to 60% of the total nitrogen are in soluble form and on average, 35% of the total phosphorus consists of dissolved-P. Representative concentration of these streams has to be separately determined based on dry and wet season. TDS and SS could be indicating parameters useful to depict and characterize a change of water quality with respect to flow rate because their measurement is easy and also includes a small analytical error. TDS values measured during dry season are related with high nitrogen concentration while during wet season, SS values effectively reflect a high concentration of phosphorus. For design purpose, cumulative concentration distribution graph presented in this paper can be directly or indirectly applied to other streams through a brief comparative and verificative study.

Long-term measurement of total mercury (TM) and dissolved gaseous mercury (DGM) were performed in Yangsuri marsh. Average TM and DGM concentrations were $2.0{\pm}2.0$ ng/L and $15.0{\pm}2.8$ pg/L, respectively, indicating that only 2.6% of TM existed as the form of DGM in Yangsuri marsh. While TM did not show the seasonal variation a statistically high DGM concentration was observed in warm season, indicating that DGM was effectively produced by strong solar radiation and high water temperature. There was no relationship between TM and DGM concentrations in Yangsuri marsh, as observed in other studies. DGM in Yangsuri marsh was supersaturated for most of sampling period; therefore, one can conclude that $Hg^0$ in water surface can readily volatilize to the atmosphere.
Effects of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) on the development of hypertension in 2-kidney, 1-clip (2-K, 1-C) rats were examined. In one group of rats, ANP infusion (500 ng/hr, iv) started immediately after clipping the renal artery. Another group of rats with one kidney-clipped was without ANP infusion and served as a control. Blood pressure was measured on days 4, 7, and 10 following clipping the renal artery. Upon the last blood pressure measurement finished, blood sample was collected by decapitation to measure plasma renin activity (PRA), and both kidneys were taken to weigh and to measure renin content. The ANP-infused group showed an attenuation of increases in blood pressure compared to the non-infused control group. PRA was lower in the ANP-infused group than in the non-infused group. Cortical renal renin content (RRC) of the clipped kidneys was not different between ANP-infused and non-infused groups. The clipped kidneys showed a higher RRC and weighed less than the non-clipped contralateral kidneys within each group. In contrast, sham-clipped rats did not show significant changes in any of the parameters examined regardless of whether ANP was infused or not. These results demonstrate that chronic ANP infusion does not prevent but does attenuate the development of hypertension in 2-K, 1-C rats. It is suggested that ANP plays a role in the long-term regulation of blood pressure, at least in part, by antagonizing the renin-angiotensin-system.
