Initial Frequency Preset Technique for Fast Locking Fractional-N PLL Synthesizers

  • This paper presents a fast locking technique for a fractional-N PLL frequency synthesizer. The technique directly measures $K_{VCO}$ on a chip, computes the VCO's target tuning voltage for a given target frequency, and directly sets the loop filter voltage to the target voltage before the PLL begins the normal closed-loop locking process. The closed-loop lock time is significantly minimized because the initial frequency of the VCO are put very close to the desired final target value. The proposed technique is realized and designed for a 4.3-5.3 GHz fractional-N synthesizer in 65 nm CMOS and successfully verified through extensive simulations. The lock time is less than $12.8{\mu}s$ over the entire tuning range. Simulation verifications demonstrate that the proposed method is very effective in reducing the synthesizer lock time.

OPTIMAL IMPACT ANGLE CONSTRAINED GUIDANCE WITH THE SEEKER'S LOCK-ON CONDITION

  • In this paper, an optimal guidance law with terminal angle constraint considering the seeker's lock-on condition, in which the target is located within the field-of-view (FOV) and detection range limits at the end of the midcourse phase, is proposed. The optimal solution is obtained by solving an optimal control problem minimizing the energy cost function weighted by a power of range-to-go subject to the terminal constraints, which can shape the guidance commands and the missile trajectories adjusting guidance gains of the weighting function. The proposed guidance law can be applied to both of the midcourse and terminal phases by setting the desired relative range and look angle to the final interception conditions. The performance of the proposed guidance law is analyzed through nonlinear simulations for various engagement conditions.

Experimental investigation of vortex-induced aeroelastic effects on a square cylinder in uniform flow

  • To investigate the motion-induced aeroelastic effects (or aerodynamic feedback effects) on a square cylinder in uniform flow, a series of wind tunnel tests involving the pressure measurement of a rigid model (RM) and simultaneous measurement of the pressure and vibration of an aeroelastic model (AM) have been systematically carried out. More specifically, the aerodynamic feedback effects on the structural responses, on the mean and root-mean-square wind pressures, on the power spectra and coherence functions of wind pressures at selected locations, and on the aerodynamic forces were investigated. The results indicated the vibration in the lock-in range made the shedding vortex more coherent and better organized, and hence presented unfavorable wind-induced effects on the structure. Whereas the vibration in the non-lock-in range generally showed insignificant effects on the flow structures surrounding the square cylinder.

  • As regulations concerning ship vibration and noise are becoming stricter, considerable attention is being drawn to prediction technologies for ship vibration and noise. In particular, the resonance and lock-in phenomena caused by vortex-induced vibration (VIV) have become considerably important with increases in the speed and the size of ships and ocean structures, which are known to cause structural problems. This study extends the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis method to predict resonances and lock-in phenomena of high modes and VIV of ship rudders. Numerical stability is secured in underwater conditions by implementing added mass, added damping, and added stiffness by applying the potential theory to structural analysis. An expanded governing equation is developed by implementing displacements and twist angles of high modes. The lock-in velocity range and resonant frequencies of ship rudders obtained using the developed FSI method agree well with the experimental results and the analytic solution. A comparison with local vibration guidelines published by Lloyd's Register shows that predictions of resonances and lock-in phenomena of high modes are necessary in the shipbuilding industry due to the possible risks like fatigue failure.

  • 전장에서 임무를 수행하는 항공기의 생존성이 위협을 받음에 따라 항공기의 생존성을 향상시키기 위한 연구의 필요성이 커지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 항공기 Plume IR 신호에 관련된 무인전투기의 생존성을 분석하였다. 항공기의 생존성을 분석하기 위해 먼저 항공기의 IR 탐지거리인 Lock-on Range와 미사일 격추 범위인 Lethal Envelope 개념을 도입하였다. 또한 수직면 기준 분석을 포함하는 지대공 미사일에 대한 Lethal Envelope를 계산하는 기법을 개발하였다. 계산결과 무인전투기의 Red Zone이 고도 위 방향과 아래 방향의 특성 뿐만 아니라 정량적인 Zone 사이즈에서 상당한 차이가 생김을 확인하였다.

Vortex induced vibration analysis of a cylinder mounted on a flexible rod

  • In this study, vortex induced vibrations of a cylinder mounted on a flexible rod are analyzed. This simple configuration represents the key element of new conception bladeless wind turbine (Whitlock 2015). In this study the structure oscillations equation coupled to the wake oscillation equation for this configuration are solved using analytical perturbation method, for the first time. An analytical expression that predicts the lock-in phenomena range of wind speed is derived. The discretized equations of motion are also solved using RKF45 numerical method. The equations of motion are discretized by Galerkin method. Free vibration mode shape of the structure taking into account the discontinuity of the cross section are used as comparison function. Numerical results are compared to the analytical results, and they show a satisfying agreement. The effect of system parameters on the oscillations of structure and wake as well as on the lock-in domain are presented. Moreover, it is shown that the values of wind speed triggering the start and the stop of the lock-in phenomenon, for increasing wind speed are different from those values obtained during the reverse process, i.e., when the wind speed decreases.

  • 이 논문에서는 1) 넓은 잠금 범위를 위한 이중 루프 동작과 2) 차세대 패키지 스큐 개선에 대한 전압 발생기와 안티퓨즈 회로를 사용한 프로그래머블 레프리카 딜레이, 두 가지 이점을 갖는 Delay Lock Loop(DLL)을 기술하였다. 이중 루프 동작은 차동 내부 루프 중 하나를 선택하기 위해 외부 클럭과 내부 클럭 사이의 초기 시간차에 대한 정보를 사용한다. 이를 이용하여 더 낮은 주파수로 DLL의 잠금 범위를 증가시킨다. 덧붙여서, 전압발생기와 안티퓨즈 회로를 사용한 프로그래머블 레프리카 딜레이의 결합은 패키지 공정 후에 온-오프 칩 변화로부터 발생하는 외부 클럭과 내부 클럭 사이에 스큐 제거를 해준다. 제안된 DLL은 0.16um 공정으로 제조되었고, 2.3v의 전원 공급과 42㎒ - 400㎒의 넓은 범위에서 동작한다. 측정된 결과는 43psec p-p 지터와 400㎒에서 52㎽를 소비하는 4.71psec 실효치(rms)지터를 보여준다.

  • In this paper, we presented the synchronization module between RF shower system and RFID Reader to extend interrogating range on Mobile RFID system, Costas Loop and FPLL(Frequency/phase Lock Loop) were used. We achieved compromised range of 3MHz locking frequency, 1ms locking time and figured out remarkable Hopping frequency of the Reader. The prototype of the new designed RFID system has been tested with ISO18000-6 type-B Tag. The read range between designed RFID Reader and Tag has been measured, it increased triple times by adjusting the Shower system output level.

악관절 폐구성 과두걸림 환자의 하악운동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Mandibular Movements in the Patients with TMJ Lock Closed)

  • The author examined the patterns and various ranges of mandibular movements in TMJ lock closed patients in the frontal, sagittal and horizontal plane and obtained the following results. 1. In the frontal trajectory, the mean amount of maximum mouth opening was 24.4mm and the opening paths were deviated to the affected side in 87.1% of the patients. The mean amount of maximum laterotrusion to the affected side was 10.4mm and that of non-affected side was 7.5mm. There was a significant difference between them(p<0.001). 2. In the sagittal trajectory, the mean amount of the maximum protrusion was 7.0mm, the mean amount of the maximal retrusion was 1.0mm 3. In the horizontal trajectory, the pattern of laterotrusion showed asymmetry: the mean length of non-affected side was smaller than that of the affected side. Protrusive path were deviated to the affected side in 64.5% of the patients, the mean degree of deviation was 16.4$^{\circ}$. The mandibular movements of TMJ lock-closed patients can be characterized by decreased range of mouth opening, protrusive movement, and laterotrusive movement to the non-affected side and also characterized by deviated opening and protrusive path to the affected side.

영상처리에 의한 위상잠금 열화상기법의 최적화 연구 (Optimization of Lock-in Thermography Technique using Phase Image Processing)

  • This study examined the use of LIT (lock-in infrared thermography) to detect defects in the welded parts of ships and offshore structures. A quantitative analysis was used with the filtering and texture measurement of image processing techniques to find the optimized experimental condition. We verified the reliability of our methods by applying image processing techniques in order to normalize the evaluations of comparative images that showed a phase difference. In addition, it was found that a low to mid-range intensity of light exposure on the surface showed good results, whereas high exposure did not provide significant results. A lock-in frequency of around 0.1 Hz was satisfactory regardless of the intensity of the light source. In addition, making the integration time of the thermography camera inversely proportional to the intensity of the exposed light source during the experiment provided good results.
