Mobility prediction is one of hot topics using location history information. It is useful for not only user-level applications such as people finder and recommendation sharing service but also for system-level applications such as hand-off management, resource allocation, and quality of service of wireless services. Most of current prediction techniques often use a set of significant locations without taking into account possible location information changes for prediction. Markov-based, LZ-based and Prediction by Pattern Matching techniques consider interesting locations to enhance the prediction accuracy, but they do not consider interesting location changes. In our paper, we propose an algorithm which integrates the changing or emerging new location information. This approach is based on Active LeZi algorithm, but both of new location and all possible location contexts will be updated in the tree with the fixed depth. Furthermore, the tree will also be updated even when there is no new location detected but the expected route is changed. We find that our algorithm is adaptive to predict next location. We evaluate our proposed system on a part of Dartmouth dataset consisting of 1026 users. An accuracy rate of more than 84% is achieved.

Recently Android apps utilizing location based services are widely used. Understanding the operation of the GPS location provider, among various location providers supported in the Android platform, is an essential task for developers using the Android. This paper, based on the analysis of source codes of the GPS subsystem in the Android platform, shows clearly and orderly the operation of the GPS location provider, in key threads' perspectives as well as in a stepwise fashion from the initialization up to the final location report steps.

Today, detecting the location of moving object has been traced as various methods in our world. In this paper, we preset the system to improve the estimation accuracy utilizing detail localization using radar sensor based on WSN and situational awareness for a calibration (context aware) database, Rail concept. A variety of existing location tracking method has a problem with receiving of data and accuracy as tracking methodology, and since these located data are the only data to be collected for location tracing, the context aware or monitering as the surrounding environment is limited. So, in this paper, we enhanced the distance aware accuracy using radar sensor utilizing the Doppler effect among the distance measuring method, estimated the location using the Triangulation algorithm. Also, since we composed the environment data(temperature, illuminancem, humidity, noise) to entry of the database, it can be utilized in location-based service according to the later action information inference and positive context decision. In order to verify the validity of the suggested method, we give a few random situation and built test bed of designed node, and over the various test we proved the utilizing the context information through route tracking of moving and data processing.
With the proliferation of diverse wireless devices, there is an increasing concern about the security of location information which can be spoofed or disrupted by adversaries. This paper investigates the characterization and detection of location spoofing attacks, specifically those which are attempting to falsify (degrade) the position estimate through signal strength based attacks. Since the physical-layer approach identifies and assesses the security risk of position information based solely on using received signal strength (RSS), it is applicable to nearly any practical wireless network. In this paper, we characterize the impact of signal strength and beamforming attacks on range estimates and the resulting position estimate. It is shown that such attacks can be characterized by a scaling factor that biases the individual range estimators either uniformly or selectively. We then identify the more severe types of attacks, and develop an attack detection approach which does not rely on a priori knowledge (either statistical or environmental). The resulting approach, which exploits the dissimilar behavior of two RSS-based estimators when under attack, is shown to be effective at detecting both types of attacks with the detection rate increasing with the severity of the induced location error.

Due to the advancement of mobile wireless networks, various LBS's (Location Based Service) with the knowledge of mobile station's current position are emerging. Providing LBS is very essential feature in Mobile WiMAX networks such as WiBro networks for their competitiveness. To this end, WiMAX Forum has established recently the network architecture and protocols for providing LBS and they are included in the Network working group's release 1.5 documents. Though there have been many research efforts on location determination in Wibro networks, none of them addresses the location determination mechanism complying to Forum's recent LBS standards. This paper proposes an enhanced TDOA-RTD combined location determination mechanism, which complies to the Forum's LBS architecture.

Location-Based Services(LBS) has been varied and expanded rapidly in local and overseas markets due to technology developments and expanded applications of wireless internet. Location Based Alert Service(LBA) capable of automatically furnishing data when entering or outing a specific location is expected to become one of the most important services in LBS. For LBA operation, it is essential to periodically get location information about moving object. However, this can cause a serious system load because system should continuously and largely receive location information of many moving objects. Existing and current methods for location polling of moving object are not suitable for an efficient location acquisition and a search structure required for LBA. In this study, to acquire large-scaled location information for LBA, a MDR moving object location polling algorithm will be suggested to reduce unnecessary location information and decrease system load by using mobility patterns of moving object.
Location-based services play an important role in many applications such as disaster warning systems and recommendation systems. These applications often require not only location information (e.g., name, latitude, longitude, etc.) but also the impact of events (e.g., earthquake, typhoon, etc.) on locations. Recently, to provide the impact of an event on a location, how to calculate location trustiness by using multimodal information such as earthquake information and disaster sensor data is researched. In the previous approach, the linear decrement of impact value of an event is applied to obtain the location trustiness of a specific location. In this paper, we propose a new approach to enrich location trustiness, that is, the impact of an event on a location, by using social media information additionally. Firstly, we design a collecting system for earthquake information and social media data. Secondly, we present an approach of location trustiness calculation based on earthquake information. Finally, we propose a new approach to enrich location trustiness by augmenting the trustiness in spatially distributed manner based on social media.
Recently, as the number of mobile users keeps increasing explosively, the location management to track the mobile users in mobile communication systems is being more important. However, the previous location management schemes have been used static location information without the consideration of a user's moving direction. This results in unnecessary pagings, consequently it increases location management costs. In this paper, we propose a mew location management costs. In this paper, we propose a new location the cell occurred a location update. It also determines whether the location update will be executed or not, by the offset operation of direction vector. Thus, a user's paging areas are generated dynamically along the user's moving direction. The wide of paging areas is also determined dynamically. Besides, we present analytic model for our scheme. To compare with our scheme, the distance-based scheme is analyzed. The numerical result shows that our scheme is more efficient than the distance-based scheme in the most cases except a low CMR. Particularly if a user move into a specific direction, our scheme has the lower location management cost than that of the distance-based scheme.

Location Based Services(LBSs) in mobile environments become very popular recently. For efficient LBSs, spatial database management systems must need a spatial indexing scheme such as R-trees in order to manage the huge spatial database. However, it may need unnecessary disk accesses since it needs to access objects which are not actually concerned to user's location-based queries. In this paper, to support the location-based queries efficiently, we propose a CLR-tree(Cell Leveling R-tree) in which a dynamic cell is built up within the minimum bounding rectangle of R-trees' node. The cell level of nodes is compared with the query's cell level in location-based query processing and determines the minimum search space. Also, we propose the insertion, split, deletion, and search algorithms for CRL-trees. From the experimental results, we see that a CLR-tree is able to decrease $5{\sim}20%$ of disk accesses from those of R-trees. So, a CLR-tree can be used for fast accessing spatial objects to user's location-based queries in LBSs.

Recently, with the development of technology, computer vision research based on the human visual system has been actively conducted. Saliency maps have been used to highlight areas that are visually interesting within the image, but they can suffer from low performance due to external factors, such as an indistinct background or light source. In this study, existing color, brightness, and contrast feature maps are subjected to multiple shape and orientation filters and then connected to a fully connected layer to determine pixel intensities within the image based on location-based weights. The proposed method demonstrates better performance in separating the background from the area of interest in terms of color and brightness in the presence of external elements and noise. Location-based weight normalization is also effective in removing pixels with high intensity that are outside of the image or in non-interest regions. Our proposed method also demonstrates that multi-filter normalization can be processed faster using parallel processing.
