  • Location Service is required in position-based routing for VANET to provide position information. We propose Grid-based Location service spot(GLSS) scheme for optimized routing path to improve accessibility and load balance in location service. Specific area is defined as Location service spot(LSS) on each grid in this scheme, and all nodes in the grid geocast its location update message and location request message to each LSS. Location request messages are flooded throughout LSSs, location reply messages establish optimized route from the source grid to the destination grid. We evaluated GLSS which establishes optimized route on the grid comparing GPSR in consideration of road condition and geographical features.

  • Location-sharing based service (LSBS) refers to a service that users share their location information with other users with whom friendship. At this time, the location information is shared through service provider, and then their position information is exposed to the service provider. The exposure of this personal position information to the service provider has raised a privacy problem, and thus privacy preserving mechanisms have been proposed to protect them. In this paper, we examine the types and features of the proposed location-sharing based services so far, and survey the research trend of privacy preserving mechanisms for them. Through the analysis on existing privacy preserving mechanisms, we present design factors for a privacy preserving mechanism for the current LSBS services, and suggest future work.

  • In this study, we consider a location-based location update (LU) scheme. We propose an enhanced LU (ELU) scheme that can store more cells to reduce the location update cost of the LU scheme and show that the ELU scheme always outperforms the LU scheme. Our scheme can be easily implemented in actual cellular systems.

  • Recently, the popularity of smartphones has led to a dramatic increase in the frequency of use of App(Application) services. LBS (Location-Based Service) App service adopts various methods such as push marketing and useful information by region through providing location-based service based on the location of the consumer. In particular, an enterprise or an App management company can provide necessary information to the consumer through the necessary information among the customer related knowledge information obtained by utilizing the location information of the consumer in real time. Nevertheless, since LBS is a service that can be performed only when the company obtains consent to provide location information voluntarily by the consumer, there is a case of privacy infringement due to consumers' use of personal information. The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of privacy related variables and the knowledge structure for consumer value formation based on the theory of privacy calculation. We also compared the characteristics of Korea with those of China in privacy issue. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that factors such as information utilization ability and information control ability were influential as a key factor of privacy calculation. In addition, perceived value influences the reputation of the LBS App service.

  • In this paper, we propose a handoff method supporting LBS (Location Based Services) Information in mobile clouding environment. In mobile clouding computing, handoff delay and re-authentication is occurred. A mobile node needs re-authentication procedure from cloud server whenever it arrives new AP. But Using of location information of node enables to reduce delay time due to re-authentication. To reduce re-authentication delay time, proposed method stores location information of APs on WiFi based location server to complement. GPS-based technology which can't receive satellite signal in indoor and then node collects location information of AP at handoff time. And also enables to process LBS without increasing handoff delay by splitting the process of handoff from process of requesting location information. For analysis of proposed method, We analyze handoff delay and location information process time and have compared previous handoff method in cloud environment. We confirmed that proposed method shows lower delay time without increasing LBS process time than previous method because node receives location information from location information server when handoff is occurred.

  • The essential characteristic of ubiquitous is context-awareness, and that means ubiquitous computing can automatically process the data that change according to space and time, without users' intervention. However, in circumstance of context awareness, since location information is able to be collected without users' clear approval, users cannot control their location information completely. These problems can cause privacy issue when users access their location information. Therefore, it is important to construct the location information system, which decides to release the information considering privacy under the condition such as location, users' situation, and people who demand information. Therefore, in order to intercept an outflow information and provide securely location-based information, this paper suggests a new system based CS-RBAC with the existing LBS, which responds sensitively as customer's situation. Moreover, it accommodates a merit of PCP reflecting user's preference constructively. Also, through privacy weight, it makes information not only decide to providing information, but endow 'grade'. By this method, users' data can be protected safely with foundation of 'Role' in context-aware circumstance.

  • With the development of mobile devices and global positioning systems, various location-based services can be utilized, which collects user's location information and provides services based on it. In this process, there is a risk of personal sensitive information being exposed to the outside, and thus Geo-indistinguishability (Geo-Ind), which protect location privacy of LBS users by perturbing their true location, is widely used. However, owing to the data perturbation mechanism of Geo-Ind, it is hard to accurately obtain the density distribution of LBS users from the collection of perturbed location data. Thus, in this paper, we aim to develop a novel method which enables to effectively compute the user density distribution from perturbed location dataset collected under Geo-Ind. In particular, the proposed method leverages Expectation-Maximization(EM) algorithm to precisely estimate the density disribution of LBS users from perturbed location dataset. Experimental results on real world datasets show that our proposed method achieves significantly better performance than a baseline approach.

  • In this paper, we implemented a mobile application of location-based augmented reality that combines self-sensing technology and various safety information using technological advancements of the smartphone. Vessel navigation is a suitable area for augmented reality because it requires accurate knowledge of the distance and location of destinations, danger zones, AtoN, and adjacent vessels. Current smartphone applications only provide 2D images and location information. Such applications do not include information about the surrounding environment, and as a result, they can only function using their own sensing information and surrounding information into a location-based augmented reality. If you provide a variety of sensor information embedded in the smartphone to 'BadaGO', the implemented application through this study, 'BadaGO' can provide safe navigation information to the user device in real time with a variety of its own formed information. The user has a high practicality and applicability of a small ship that is supplied with safe navigation information in a changing marine environment only by providing information through the application on the smartphone.

  • Smartphone and Tablet PC has become a popular. So, various location-based service applications are being made in the field of advertising, games, and search. However, the location-based services application is lacking in the field of education. Therefore, this study proposes a Location-based service application for Tablet PC, which can be take advantage in school. The application was designed with these considerations in mind. First, the application to increase the participation of the students take the form of play. Second, participating students are influencing each other. Third, through the promotion of the cycle has allowed long-term operations. This application will be used usefully in an environment that students use a individual Tablet PC through the spread of e-textbooks.

  • One of the most important issue in location-aware computing is tracking moving objects efficiently. To this end, an efficient protocol which updates location information in a location server is highly needed. In fact, the performance of a location update strategy highly depends on the assumed mobility pattern. In most existing works, however, the mobility issue has been disregarded and too simplified as linear function of time. In this paper, we propose a new mobility model, called state-based mobility model (SMM) to provide more generalized framework for both describing the mobility and updating location information of complexly moving objects. We also introduce the state-based location update protocol (SLUP) based on this mobility model. Using experimental comparison, we illustrate that the proposed technique is many times better in reducing location update cost and the communication bandwidth consumption.
