  • Recently, various applications of location trigger service have been required and developed as users of location-based services are increasing. The location trigger is detecting event of entering in, existing in or leaving from pre-specified area, and then alerting by short message service, an e-mall or servicing other pre-defined action to mobile subscribers. The conventional methodology of supporting location trigger is detecting location trigger events as periodical requesting location of mobile communication terminal to location gateway server in mobile communication network. But these conventional methods cause mobile communication interruption when the location trigger services are overloaded; thereby inducing performance of core server to be fell off. So in this paper, we have studied a new location trigger technology, named multilevel location trigger, to reduce mobile core network sewer triggering bottleneck and power consumption caused embedded GPS device of mobile phone. Actually, as design and evaluating the performance of location trigger after building test-bed environment, we contribute toward improving echnology of location trigger.

  • In group location management, when a transportation system(TS) with multiple mobile subscribers(MSs) changes location area(LA), location management is performed by group location registration by TS, instead of individual location registrations by MSs. In previous works, although it is assumed that LA in group location management is the same as that in individual location management, it is not appropriate to assume the same sized LAs since MSs in a TS have different characteristics from MSs which are not in a TS from the aspect of the speed and aggregate call arrival rates. Thus, in this paper, we propose an efficient location management scheme based on individual and group location managements with different sized LAs, and the performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed from the aspect of signaling cost at the wireless interface. Results reveal that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional scheme by selecting an appropriate sized LA for group location management.

  • This paper examines the effect of storage location configurations on dual command cycle times for the efficient operation of automated storage/retrieval systems. We use a contour line approach to determine storage location configurations. We present a contour line configuration generating scheme and a location indexing scheme. Given a contour line configuration, the location indexing scheme provides a unique priority to each location. The location priority is then used for determining the storage location of an incoming load. To investigate the effect of alternative contour line configurations on dual command cycle times, we perform a series of experiments under various storage policies.

  • In this paper, a novel method called location-based delivery (LBD), which combines the short message service (SMS) and global position system (GPS), is proposed, and further, a realistic system for tracking a target's movement is developed. LBD reduces the number of short message transmissions while maintaining the location tracking accuracy within the acceptable range. The proposed approach, LBD, consists of three primary features: Short message format, location prediction, and dynamic threshold. The defined short message format is proprietary. Location prediction is performed by using the current location, moving speed, and bearing of the target to predict its next location. When the distance between the predicted location and the actual location exceeds a certain threshold, the target transmits a short message to the tracker to update its current location. The threshold is dynamically adjusted to maintain the location tracking accuracy and the number of short messages on the basis of the moving speed of the target. The experimental results show that LBD, indeed, outperforms other methods because it satisfactorily maintains the location tracking accuracy with relatively fewer messages.

Abstract Managing location information of mobile hosts is an important issue in mobile computing systems. There is a trade-off between location update and search, when a mobile host moves. This paper proposes a simple quorum-based distributed dynamic location management method using location registers. The cost of location updates and searches is reduced by our method because the location information of mobile hosts is managed efficiently in a subset of location registers instead of in all location registers. In our method, the subset of location registers is dynamically changed, and the load of each location register is balanced by considering query rate for mobile hosts. The performance of proposed algorithm is evaluated in terms of the total cost of a location update and a location search, and is compared with Prakash's algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a model for the location information grading policy. Location information grading policy is that government would give a public notice of criterion for location information quality, and location information operators should elucidate the grade of provided location information. As the quality grade of services is provided in the 'terms of use' with the detailed quality specification and quality range, the user can understand the quality of location information, and can select more suitable service for their purposes. Additionally, the qualiy grading policy can enforce the location information operators and location service providers to support more stable and reliable service quality. In this paper, we propose the model of location information grades, the typical classification of quality, and the realitic policy applying model. Recent enacted 'Location Information Law' are expected to activate korean information market. In this situation, proposed location information grading policy take a role in protecting location privacy and improving the reliability of location information services.

  • Moving objects are spatio-temporal data that change their location or shape continuously over time. Generally, if continuously moving objects are managed by a conventional database management system, the system cannot properly process the past and future location which is not stored in the database. Up to now, for the purpose of location tracking which is not stored, the linear interpolation to estimate the past location has been usually used. It is suitable for the moving objects on linear route, not curved route. In this paper, we propose a past location tracking algorithm for a moving object on curved routes, and also suggest a future location tracking algorithm using some past location information. We found that the proposed location tracking algorithm has higher accuracy than the linear interpolation function.

  • The purpose of this study is to assess individual decisive factors for distribution of medical specialists in Korea. A data set was constructed using several published data sources. including the Korean Medical Association's physician master file as a principal source for physician information. Linear logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the relationship between the location of private specialist clinic for practice with six variables related with individual characteristics: age. sex. location of postgraduate training hospital. location of medical school graduated, size of hospital for training, and specialty. Analysis showed that location of practice. classified into urban and rural areas, was significantly associated with the variables of sex. location of postgraduate training hospital. location of medical school. In addition, significant association was found between the location of practice which was categorized into "near-Seoul area" and others, and sex, location of postgraduate training hospital. and location of medical school. We could conclude that to improve area maldistribution of physicians locations of hospitals for training and medical schools have to have the highest priority in the policymaking.icymaking.

  • The location area planning is to assign cells to the location areas of a wireless communication network in an optimum manner. The two important cost components are cost of location update and cost of paging that are of conflicting in nature; i.e., minimizing the registration cost might increase the search cost. Hence, it is important to find a compromise between the location update and paging operations such that the cost of mobile terminal location tracking cost is a minimum. The complete mobile network is divided into location areas. Each location area consists of a group of cells. In fact this is shown to be an NP-complete problem in an earlier study. In this paper, we use an ant colony optimization method to obtain the best/optimal group of cells for a given a network.
